Chief has been relevant many times...because of humiliating performances. Not sure that's the good kind of relevance!

I like to visit reddit to see the rally topics posted for different matches. The one thing that always amazes me is the amount of people who say they're going to vote for the other guy. See it in just about every topic, and usually by multiple people.

I understand that you can have multiple interests as a video game fan, but if your a lurker/visitor on a game-specific reddit what are the odds you'd like the other character better? Just seems low, but it happens so often.

Well, Lopen's right in that Frog hasn't had a notable match in over a decade.

But he has three legendary matches (all victories, to boot), so it almost doesn't matter.

Chief was clutch in 05, amazing in 07 at a level Frog will never touch, and solid in 08. Carried Frog to an exciting match in 04.

He was an embarrassment in 06, 10, and 13.

He's had a pretty good career. Ups and downs.

he's from a middling FPS series while Frog is from one of the most timeless RPGs of all time.

Can we count Rivalry Rumble for just a second? Because Frog and Magus vs. Chell and GLaDOS was totally one of the few highlights of that contest, so that would give Frog a fourth close win. Chief meanwhile, lost his top Microsoft spot to Ryu Habausa in 2010.

Well, Chief probably only has embarrassments left in him at this point.

oh man one of my favorite absurdities from 2010 was people literally calling for XBOX SFF for Chief to beat Hayabusa

I laughed at the idea at the time

and then I laughed again as Hayabusa won easily

I definitely wouldn't call Chrono Trigger timeless.

Just spent over an hour trying to figure out why my updater wasn't tracking the first four hours, finally found a god damn single set of mis-placed paranthes in a date difference calculation. FFS.

I don't know if you've configured the updater for the start of 2 matches per day and 1 match per day yet, but TRE has managed to work out the contest schedule. Here's the important Poll IDs you need to know:

7238 - Start of 4 matches per day
7350 - Start of 2 matches per day
7380 - Start of 1 match per day
7387 - Final match of contest

At some point during the contest, there's going to be a 6 day Thanksgiving break when there are no matches taking place. It seems like the Thanksgiving break starts on November 19th at 7:00 PM following the end of Poll ID 7357.

So far this contest, modern Western characters such as Joel have been quite backloaded, shaving significant percentage off their opponents during the night and the following day.

Yeah

The number of people who vote because of a rally and the number of people who comment on a rally topic are two very different beasts. And as you said, you're way more likely to comment because you're going against the grain. It creates an inflated idea of "anti rally voters". How many people are you really talking about there, these people that said they'd vote Garrus? Like 10? 20?

Garrus also took the lead in the US somewhere around all this. He wasn't the last time I checked, but that may have been an hour ago, don't remember.

And Garrus is up pretty big (relatively speaking) in the UK, so it's not too surprising he's making a move now. We should be getting a high percentage of votes from Europe by now.

Indeed, a whopping one person commented on that r/FinalFantasy thread saying they would vote Garrus!

Generally speaking, from around 2 A.M. to 6 A.M. Eastern time

this timeframe tends to have different trends than the rest of the match because Europe's influence is bigger

of course it's also the timeframe that gets the fewest votes overall so its impact is kind of limited

Not quite yet. It's only 8am in Scotland just now, 9am in mainland Europe. I'd say another 3 or 4 hours before the Euro vote is in full swing.

Lead's almost down to 100 now.

Oh, good. Squall's over 74%. 30 minutes in I thought he wouldn't even make it to 72%. There's a glimmer of hope for him again.
