I disagree heavily with this.

FFX's dub wasn't great or even good, but calling it "embarrassing" is off the mark and... honestly weird.

I had her winning thrice and chickened out but you can still laugh if you want.

Geralt can still lose that match by being really bad.

The laughing scene was an intentionally awkward and painful sounding scene because it was meant to convey the sentiment of turning away from fear even in a dark situation and instead embracing lighter emotions, something both Yuna and Tidus found difficult to do. The absurdity of the scene is, in fact, wholly intentional and it is meant not to be realistic laughter (which can be found in other parts of the voice acting) but rather a shared experience of putting their best foot forward not to be overwhelmed by the path they were on.

The laughing scene is awkward but it's supposed to be.

And as he goes over in his review, FFX has more than enough other sterling qualities to take away from voice acting that AT WORST i'm going to give you is below average.

I crack up at the laughing scene every time.

FFX has a ton of good cheese.

The laughing scene is a good scene. They're f***ing around doing stupid stuff and then they have real, not-weird laughter two seconds later, where they laugh at the silly shared experience they just had. Anyone who has had friends has done exactly the same thing (or you have really boring friends). People just make fun of the scene because it's been meme'd.

Ever seen Charlotte Flair on the microphone? That's how Yuna sounds. I'm supposed to feel like you're literally reading your lines off of a card.

What does the laughing scene have to do with the English dub specifically though? They do the same thing in the japanese dub.

It wasn't the VA's fault though. She had to lip sync to the Japanese's actress' performance.

There's a great video by Tidus' English VA about what a clusterf*** the dubbing process was that's it's amazing it was as good as it was. The Japanese staff essentially threw them to the wolves.

And again I want to reiterate.

FFX is STERLING everywhere else, so attacking the voice acting is extremely nitpicky.

The ffx voice actors are pretty much all great.

It probably was mostly the directing that hurt it.

Yeah, the voice direction and having to match lip flap probably hurts more than anything.

Look at Auron, who is probably considered to have the best voice acting of the main cast. Why? Because he has a high collar that covers his mouth most of the time!

Like if they could re dub it with the same cast with the same level of care modern ones do, it would be a fantastic.

Voices matching foreign lip flaps is always gonna be awkward. I don’t think any amount of time or direction can fix that really. The DB FighterZ English dub also suffers from bad lip flapping and it’s got 17~ years on FFX’s dub. Just how it goes

God that guy goes in really hard on the dub in an article that isn't exclusively supposed to be about the dub.

I guess at least he's not launching into a rant about politics but man.

yeah those articles are mostly good but he can get caught up on weird things sometimes

It's probably been said, but it fits for the awkward indoctrinated character that is Yuna. And if it wasn't that way in the jp release, well, it fits for U.S. Yuna.

I think Mewtwo is a whole different animal than the block though.

Even if Mewtwo is a complete and total fraud, the big issue is that Valve isn't doing s*** with any of its video game properties, so I can't believe that GLaDOS and Gordon Freeman aren't on a downswing right now. Especially when 2015 demonstrated this with Portal 2 choking against Sonic 2 and Half-Life 2 losing quite a bit of ground on Metroid Prime in their GotD rematch.

Portal 2's result against Sonic 2 was pretty good, I thought, considering the general dominance of '90s stuff.

Portal's performance against Melee is the one that would concern me if I had GlaDOS.

Secondly, there's...well, let's start by looking at Tifa and Rinoa. Final Fantasy VIII's Rinoa had her fans, but to put it bluntly, there is far less Rinoa hentai floating around cyberspace than there is of VII's buxom heroine. It is an established fact that you can gauge the populariy anime/video game character by the amount of people drawing them naked and posting them on the Internet, and its is unlikely that this discrepancy between Tifa and Rinoa smut escaped Square's attention. The natural solution was to fetishize Dagger in a similar vein as Tifa. But instead of giving Dagger a massive bust, they focused on her booty instead.

FFX isn't the only victim of bad voice direction. It plagued FF13 too, as apparently Lightning's supposed to be an emotional hothead in the Japanese version yet speaks like a robot in English.

FFX is victim of having one of the worst casts in the series.

Spectacular game, but the characters all do nothing for me.

Speaking of, I just realized Rikku didn't make the bracket, and then I looked into it and found out she's missed half of them. Weird, I always just assumed she was a contest mainstay.

Yeah, it's a shame, beucase she has strength and a lot of her bracket placements have been really bad.

I see Yuna is still increasing her percentage although quite slowly. That AA early vote really is something else, but wouldn't be surprised if Yuna's was bad on top of that

Oh I've read those before they are cool.

Came back from work, checked the results. This is what I have to say.

I thought the match would be closer. Guess not all Nintendo characters get boosted.
Finally a FF character looking really good. Don't know anything about the Ace games though.
Kefka is winning by this much? Damn!
Bomberman is winning...Although he is iconic yeah. But how a Yakuza character got a 2 seed?

This is actually pretty hilarious. You could probably check 6 or 7 of these off already.

Also, I am still a little surprised and pleased that Kefka is still somehow over 60%. He truly makes no sense.

At least to me it makes sense registered voters are just sick of the L Block joke at this point assuming theyve been voting in contests consistently for the last 10 years

So I'd kinda given up hope on more contests coming around. I used to check GameFAQs once every three months or so to see if there was any news, and eventually I just stopped.

I just started a new job and had a ton of annoying (yet unfulfilling, so I was very bored) stuff last week, so on Sunday I decided to go to GameFAQs just to see what the old haunt was up to.

Then I saw there was a character battle happening and I was ecstatic.

But I'd cleared my cookies in the last year and didn't remember my password, so I had to wait three days to be able to comment and thank you all for sticking around. Reading an active stats and discussion thread has been the highlight of my week, by far.

I inserted the missing updates for the first day of matches. Thanks to Luster, and sorry for the delay.

Well, she almost always gets a low seed, too. In the years when she has made it, she's barely made it.
