Leon, I've got a question for you.

If you had the chance to rally for Squall, would you take it?

This is a weird day, man. The only winner who's actually meeting or exceeding my expectations is... Crash.

It's probably safe to say that Big Boss doesn't have a chance in hell at winning the division anymore - this is the textbook definition of a pyrrhic victory - but Red vs. Sora can still be good. Red should probably be the favorite, but really, that has more to do with Pikachu's godstomp yesterday than Red's performance here.

Nep hitting 25% shouldn't be impossible given how bad Pikachu's day vote was. If it happens, that would definitely be a disappointing performance for Red.

Came back for work checked the results. This is what I have to say.

Sora doing good.
Trainer dominating as expected.
I am surprised Crash isn't winning by more.
Big Boss doing bad.

I mean we've seen neither Zelda nor Squall in action yet, so I'd probably wait at least a few more days before making a pronouncement like that

Although it is looking like a good pick based on the way things are going

Vivi still did pretty well, almost as well as Red is doing, and I don't think Vivi's opponent was turbofodder like Neptune is.

Squall breaks 55% on Zelda with ease lol

We don't know if BotW will give Zelda a boost or not

It does help that BotW Zelda is one of the best Zeldas. Not as good as Spirit Tracks Zelda but still.

I have faith in Squall. Remember, Luigi was a lock in 2003 until match day.

That was before x-stats and people thinking Luigi would be as strong as Mario.

Still it's ridiculous to call it one way or another until we see them compete (likely after round 2)

I'm not even sure how helpful round 1 will be for determining that match, since Squall is up against untested fodder and may have a few anti-votes and Zelda is against a character who has presumably declined substantially since their last meeting.

Since they've been in a 1v1 before I think this is a good way to see how much the gap between them has changed

well people have prematurely called for Squall's demise throughout his history and he still keeps winning those matches

well the point is that it won't tell us all that much because presumably Ezio is a lot weaker now that we're far removed from AC2 as opposed to when it was still fresh and new

Zelda will probably crush him, and it won't really mean much because we don't know how much he's dropped.

I'm looking forward to see Zelda's pic. Wouldn't be surprised if she actually gained more votes with Smash Ultimate's design rather than BotW's, though.

I'm sure when Ramza loses people will also use that to call for things like Zelda>Squall

That's somewhat more fair since she wasn't always trash.

But yeah, I'm sure a FF deboost would be given more credit than Waluigi's reasons to be stronger if it happened. Just like Knuckles > Zidane.

Why is 2003 even mentioned at this day and age
It had Fox doubling Pikachu
It had Magus beating Ganondorf
It had Mario beating Shadow the Hedgehog by just 10%
And it f***ing had Cloud beating Link

yeah man 2003 was the best

Also, I think people are heavily underestimating Ridley here. Nintendo+Smash hype boost+receiving a major makeover (he's no longer a purple sprite).

These things sound pretty obvious but I think the major factor here is Smash by a longshot. I wouldn't be surprised if Shulk, Simon, Bayonetta and K. Rool all "overperform" because of this as well.

Spoilers: Cloud will "overperform" too.

I'm more willing to put the performance down to the pic Big Boss got than anything else. I mean if he was projected to put up 60 is it really a stretch to say a non favorable picture drops him down a few percent when he's one of the characters who gets a large boost from certain pictures?

I have been saying SMASH BOOST for days now!
I had Ridley > Big Boss at first but then I checked his previous matches and that thing is a monster, so I changed it and expected him to come close to doubling Ridley
Changing Shulk > Sub-Zero was my hardest decision!

I took Sub-Zero, but I’m not sure how to feel about it. Scorpion looked bad against Pikachu, but Shulk’s only match is him losing to Ratchet and Altair which just strikes me as terrible. I think that was before he got put into Smash though?

Shadow was that strong in 2003? Damn!

I had Riku > Bayo on the grounds that nobody likes Bayo in Smash and her games aren't really the kind that is liked here

But everything Smash and Switch is doing well so I don't know what to think anymore

Smash boost is clearly a thing, yes.

Yuna probably won't look too great, but FFX also looked weaker than usual in 2015, unlike the other FFs.

You just described my same case pretty well. The only difference is I think Shulk doesn't have a chance, unfortunately.

I think Riku > Bayo is still a safe pick. KH3 will help Riku even if Bayo gets a small Smash boost.

Again, this is a little overstated. CT was going to lay the smackdown on Melee nearly as badly and it was going to beat FFVII fairly easily afterward.

Yeah, Shulk was not yet revealed for Smash the last time we saw him.

That Shadow result looked super weird when it happened too.

Eh, even based on the 2010 stats, Big Boss was projected to score a 60/40.

There are many reasons for Ridley to be doing better than that here, and they're not all because of Smash.
