I took Sub-Zero, but I’m not sure how to feel about it. Scorpion looked bad against Pikachu, but Shulk’s only match is him losing to Ratchet and Altair which just strikes me as terrible. I think that was before he got put into Smash though?

Scorpion didn't look too bad against Pikachu by the end of the match. Pikachu was already at a tier below the noble nine in 2010 so a low to mid 60s for Pikachu was the expectation.

Shulk did get Smash 4 since then, but that's still quite a hole to dig out of.

Again, this is a little overstated. CT was going to lay the smackdown on Melee nearly as badly and it was going to beat FFVII fairly easily afterward.

Oh it's not based on CT being in beast mode, it underperformed against Half Life and Mega Man X as well. And sure, that could be those two falling and rising respectively (MMX surely rose!), but I don't think it can explain it all. PS2 is too late for this sites nostalgia I guess.
I mean, I said it looked weaker, not that it was for sure, but I really doubt it hasn't gotten weaker, unfortunately.

Yeah, Shenmue looked pretty good in 2015 and as long as Red is a step below the Pokemon Sora will have a great chance at winning next round.

I'm liking Red to break at least 55% next round, and perhaps even push for 60. This might be a daring concept for some of you, but maybe Neptune isn't all that weak. I'd pick her to beat Ryo at any rate.

I don't think you can really take anything away from this performance for Red though precisely because we don't know if Neptune is worth anything or not.

Idk, the Nep games really aren't that well respected and would surely fold in a big way to anything vaguely iconic. Also, 60% would be completely ridiculous, since Pikachu probably falls a little short of 60% in 2013 in a 1v1 and Sora is stronger and Pokemon is weaker.

well he's right in the sense that if Ryo = Neptune, it projects to almost exactly a 60% win for Red

so yeah if you believe that Red looks great for next round

I'd be surprised if Neptune was worth anything at all.

Ryo's probably stronger than Neptune if for no other reason than he's been in the contest before and debuted in a game released before the year 2000. Not by a ton but by enough to make Sora vs Red interesting even before considering Sora's anti-vote factor inflating fodder.

Any strength Neptune has almost certainly comes from her design and her character rather than her games though. I dont think even Neptunia fans think the games are anything special, they just like Nep. To that extent she's basically the opposite of Ryo who gains a lot of cred from Shenmue.

Well, Sora already looked weaker in 2013 as is. He did quite a bit worse against Scorpion than Pikachu did yesterday. I think if you were picking Sora to win this division to begin with, you were betting on KH3 hype to boost him back up to his old levels.

But this first match is inconclusive because Sora just doesn't blow out fodder like you'd expect a really powerful character to do.

Neptune's games are definitely very niche. It's just a matter of how niche.

I still don’t know anything about Hat Kid so I couldn’t tell you if it’s just as niche or not. I feel like Neptune would have pic advantage at least after seeing what Hat Kid looks like though

I would take Neptune over Cayde-6 and Hat Kid

Assuming a constant Scorpion, Pikachu gets 60.74% against Sora. I just don't see Red doing that well against Pikachu, ignoring SFF. It'll be close though. Though yeah, Sora winning this division is dependent of KH3 giving him a boost.

Red to me is always "that guy that almost lost to Ocelot".

They're not "solid proof." They're reference points because, like char said, what else are we supposed to go by? Everybody used those past performances to make their brackets to some extent.

Yeah if past results aren't useful we might as well take our gut for everything.

Other than Sonic being first how do the other Sonic characters look contest wise? Like how would they look from strongest of the group to weakest?

Like the rivalry rumble it will just devolve to the main male/female characters regardless of relationship.
