Pokemon games have always had issues when it comes to GotY since they were always limited to handheld systems, and some people think handheld games are strictly inferior to console games. Pokemon X/Y came up very short in 2013, only barely losing to A Link Between Worlds in the 3DS poll (while A Link Between Worlds would later on go to win GotY that year). Pokemon Sun/Moon also fell just short in 2016. I think the 2019 Pokemon game on Switch can be a game changer as it would be the first time a mainline Pokemon game will be available on a console (something people have been wanting for a long time). seen both Vercetti and Niko tank ridiculously hard a few years after
their respective games' release to "get the hell out of this contest and
never come back" levels and CJ was never worth much. The main of cowboy
GTA collapsing into total worthlessness wouldn't exactly be

this point, I think Mewtwo is the only Pokemon entrant who might not be
a favorite to win their division just because Tifa/MMX is a tough duo

don't trust Charizard or Mewtwo at all. This Pikachu performance isn't
actually that much better than he would normally do - it's impressive
but Pikachu was already strong. Zard and Mewtwo are going to have to
prove themselves as being able to perform when they don't have
rallies/bandwagons behind them. Black Turtle did a pretty good job. |
Yeah
Pikachu has always been the only one that consistently impresses year
after year. Mewtwo lost cleanly to Ganondorf in 2010 and I'd take MMX
> Ganon, and Charizard didn't look super great against Nintendo
competition in 2013, and Red has never been overwhelmingly strong
outside of the Rivalry Rumble. Not calling anything or making any
predictions, but calling a bunch of divisions over seems pretty
premature. |

Wario is also sort of a “meme” character... not as much as his

as the Pokemon characters, since it's the Pokemon characters that
