Despite
barely playing any new games in 10 years, I'm putting a lot of faith in
Geralt to make the Divisional Finals! He does have great character
design, but the problem I'm running into is that he's likely to run into
Ryu H. and Bayonetta, two other characters who benefit a lot from their
design as well. This could be some sort of Snake/Hayabusa redux, but I
can't figure out who's more likely to collapse. Yesmar |
Team Rocket Elite posted... A link to the contest was put up in a bunch of places just now. The location of the link on the homepage could have been better than that. At least it's below the PotD, so for those who visit the homepage for the PotD, it's going to be hard to miss that link. Though I would have preferred to see the link higher up on the page. The FAQ pages themselves (not the page listing all the FAQs for a particular game) seems to be one of the few places where this link isn't visible at all. However, there is a site alert to make up for this issue, so even unregistered users are being made aware of the contest in other ways. This post makes me sad, Wario is a great character with some phenomenal games. WarioWare Gold recently released on the 3DS, and it features full voice acting this time around. Charles Martinet sounds like he's having the time of his life throughout the game, and made me appreciate Wario even more. Now crack that combination: 27 99 23. |

has shown he destroy fodder in the past, nearly breaking 50% on Creeper
and King of All Cosmos. I don’t think GameFAQs cares about DDLC at
all, so she will absolutely need to bring some off site presence to pull

a Monika rally happens I think that helps Noctis (don't ask me why, it
just makes sense?), but if a rally happens for Master Hand then Wario

NGNW("normal guy never wins") Gordon Freeman, Niko Bellic, Tanner, Eddie Riggs, Tommy Vercetti, Nathan Hale, Frank West, Alan Wake, Welkin Gunther, Chris Redfield, Captain McMillian, Captain John Price, Nathan Drake, Marcus Fenix, Dan Hibiki, Steven Armstrong, Mike Haggar, John Marston, etc.... If you're a "normal guy", or have a "normal guy" sounding name, you will SUCK in these contests. I don't care how many million copies GTA 5 has sold, those "characters" from those games will never win. Has anyone come up with this concept yet? Could add it to the Board 8 wiki Raytan wins! I'm pretty sure the term "Generic McDude" has been around for a few contests. And it's not so much that those kind of characters suck, but they aren't a part of gamers' childhoods, so they don't stick as strongly in our minds. They came to significance as gamers got older and wanted characters that better represented them. And WTF is Dan Hibiki doing in that list? If he's on there, you might as well call Ryu a McDude. Does anyone else think Cloud being in Smash Bros. Wii U will actually hurt him? A part of me feels like this: Cloud being in smash... kinda turned him from an iconic video game character into... a "brand" or a "video game asset". It's like when Kevin Durant joined the Golden State Warriors in the NBA. He was an iconic, can't miss player when he was with OKC. You would just assume it made him more popular... but did it really? He became part of the system. He joined an unstoppable force, a monopoly of NBA talent. A lot of fans felt he was just joining to get an easy ring. A lot of the coolness Cloud had was from being independent from Nintendo for years and years, for being that Pepsi to Coke(Nintendo). Now... he's with Coke now. He's closer to being a Nintendo "video game asset" as opposed to being a great character. And this is a "character" battle remember. Also... Smash Bros Wii U has really fallen in reverence... it's viewed as such a "meh" game now, so little innovation, boring competitive scene, so slow compared to Melee. Cloud making the Smash roster was so amazing. I lost my s*** that day. And then I showed it to my friends who I grew up with and they lost their s***, it was great. It was so unexpected and I don't think I'll ever experience anything like that again in my life. -schwifty |

The Wii U was the least popular of Nintendo's major consoles and failed to reach 50% ownership on this site, so I don't expect Smash Bros. Wii U to have any effect on the newcomers to the series. Ultimate has far more potential to provide character boosts as the Switch has already surpassed the Wii U's highest ownership mark on the site. I've
pretty much ignored all of Mewtwo's matches from 2013 for various
reasons. In Round 1, the result is hard to analyze when Mewtwo faced
Zero (999) who is turbo-fodder, and Chester who is the weakest character
to ever appear in a contest. Round 2 was tainted by the awful Vincent picture. Round 3 was heavily affected from spillover from the Link/Draven/Shepard match. And Round 4 was a Draven match, so that's completely worthless as well. Even the bonus match could be unreliable due to the presence of Pikachu in that match. Like... what if Harry Potter, Spiderman, Superman, Batman, Deadpool, Master Chief, or even some real-life "characters" were added into the game, like PewDiePie(youtube infuencer)? I could seriously see this happening. This is the type of "content" games in 2018 RELY on, as opposed to real innovation. Skins, selfie cameras, DLC, trophies... adding new characters is basically that same type of incremental non-innovative "content" designed to basically just appease fans and get their money. As opposed to radical change. Would that really be a good thing? I think that's the trend that we're headed towards. How Cloud being associated with Smash, particularly with that HYPE back in Nov 2015 when he was announced in that trailer(Cloud joins the BATTLE), could potentially hurt Cloud's strength in this contest. It was more of a general "Smash is so generic, mainstream, and lacking innovation" now argument. It actually reminded me a lot of how people were SO hyped for Brawl in the late 2007-early 2008 period, then when the game finally released in mid-2008, it did not meet expectations. I think voters on the site still really remember that, I know I do. Was the hype for Cloud back in Nov 2015(when he was annouced) a better experience than actually playing him for 3 years in Smash 4 upon his release?(Dec 15 2015-present). I think, for most people, the annoucement was a better experience than the actual playing him in the game. Also: "Cloud was released in a bundle with Midgar after the Direct on December 15th, 2015. The bundle costs $5.99 for one version of the game and $6.99 for both." This shows how Cloud is just a cash grab by Nintendo. Having to pay more money to play the character... that is everything that is wrong with gaming in 2018. Paying for DLC content is one of the biggest trends in the 2010s era of gaming, and Cloud is now associated with that movement. Cloud is slightly less associated with the golden era of gaming(mid 90s-2006), and more associated with the 2010s era of gaming trends, which I think in general voters on this site hate. Trends like streaming, DLC, #winning, screenshoting, ranked modes, "competitive", speedrunning, esports, memes. Raytan wins! (edited 10/9/2018 11:04:17 AM) |
