Why not just do preliminary matches between eight of the Noble Nine characters, before the actual tournament kicks off? The first 8 matches are matches including Sephiroth, Cloud, Crono, Sonic, Samus, Snake, Mega Man and Mario? Depending on how they perform in the preliminary poll? They will be ranked by seed via strength. #1 is seeded based on he/she did in the poll, who comes in last is seeded #8 in the poll. lol retire Link lol @SBAllen |

I liked fourways, but 1v1 is still the best. Multiple matches a day alleviates the biggest concern there. |

say Mario/Bowser vs. Link/Ganon in the Rivals contest. He finally broke
40%. The rivalry probably changed the numbers a bit, but it was a

It would've been darn close either way. I'm just trying to ask the question of why so many people just assume Mario is the clear #2 now when he hasn't had an unquestionably great performance in who knows how long. That being said, Nintendo in general probably rebounds somewhat from the last few contests now that the Switch has turned the company's fortunes around some, but still. |
Mario
has not been impressive, generally. People just kinda doubt Metal Gear
maintaining its strength and figure there’s no way Samus beats Mario so
he falls into #2 by default. His best contest since 2005 is probably 2007? Think he matched his 2005 number on Sephiroth and held up better than he ever has to link sff. He had Mario galaxy hype and generally positive thoughts on Nintendo behind him then, so that level of strength might be about what i’d expect a year out from odyssey with the switch still thought well of. It's
not like Cloud or Solid Snake have had much since 2015 while Mario is
coming off of Odyssey. I think it's just a default position for most
people to have Mario ranking high. Congratulations to BKSheikah for winning the guru |
EVERYONE IS BACK is enough hype for Snake I wish we had gotten a Character Battle around the time the FFVIIR trailer came out. That thing currently has 15 million views. The Remake getting mired in typical Square-Enix shenanigans has probably nullified whatever it could've done for Cloud and Seph at this point. _SecretSquirrel posted... I've been away for a few days but I still wanted to comment on some things: Wreath posted... Also random thought I mean I'm so pumped for a contest dont get me wrong. Smash Ultimate could have a pretty good shot, unless something happens a la GotD where Majora's Mask beat Brawl. Wreath posted... Do you guys really find 1v1 as entertaining as anything else? I honestly can't speak for 4-ways since I haven't been around here enough to see a contest with that format, but like 60% of why I enjoy contests is because of the Oracle, so as much as how interesting 3-ways were back in 2013, the format sucked hard in terms of the Oracle since it was pretty much impossible to predict that thing. That was the only year I didn't participate (except for the first few matches) because of it. That being said, 3-way battles felt a little unbalanced since only one character could advance at a time, but the concept was still refreshing and allowed more characters, which is always good I guess. Here lies the sig of BK_Sheikah00, who swore fealty to the Gurus of Board 8. |

think Mega Man should've done better directly, so SFF was assumed, but
who knows. |

was way too many SFF matches in CBVIII, as well as CBIX. I would love
if it if Sailor Bacon would put a reasonable cap on characters by

I think Mario fought pretty greatly against SFF back in 2008. He has been extremely unlucky with SFF in multiways in general. Guinness Book of World Records is the name of the diary that belongs to BKSheikah, the winner of the Best Year in Gaming contest. |

At
best Mario only SFF Mega Man by a couple of points, it's almost within
the range of error. People were just high on Mega Man in 2010 after
breaking 70% on a sprite Ryu Hayabusa (he also had a decent performance
