Yeah, I can't imagine a non-VG character being strong enough to beat Link without an outside rally (which I guess he is afraid of happening).

Yeah, there's very little doubt that Link would win a fictional character contest barring a rally. Darth Vader or Batman at best would "only" threaten the lower-mid members of the noble nine.

A reminder that Gamespot had Gordon Freeman, Kerrigan, and Launchpad McQuack win character contests.

While he was rallied, Gordon Freeman winning isn't so crazy outside of GameFAQs.

yes and i got someone who texted me that they did it, so it was a success! they even nominated a bunch of darkstalkers characters who have no shot at getting in so that's nice too i guess

The Boss has looked like a low midcarder in most of her performances.

The Boss is lucky she hasn't dropped past the Fodder Line, I don't think after 5 years of inactivity (outside of the MGS3 Pachinko Remake) that she'd boost at all

I mean I don't know why everyone assumes "no games = big drop" considering this is a site that loves old games above all others

The Boss is probably still fine.

I think the strength of characters without new games coming out is kind of a bowl-style graph. High at their peak, but then there's a drop as they fade into irrelevance, but after a while they might come back up as people get nostalgic for them.

With MGS characters, we're kind of getting to that point where people are losing interest in the franchise. I'd say the franchise hit its peak strength after Snake's inclusion in Brawl, and at this point it's starting to dip, and we're not far enough along to start feeling nostalgic.
