Why are we talking about 15 year old GameCube exclusives that sold less than 250,000 copies?

Please. A 14 year old with minimum, with little to no editing skills could make a YouTube video that gets more views than the amount of copies Baten Kaitos sold.

RE4 got a PS2 port only 9 months after the GC version.

RE4 is not exclusive

neither is Killer7 anymore

Baten Kaitos is kinda obscure I guess?

Looking at past results, Melee is losing overall ground a little more each time this poll is run.

While Brawl had Melee fans dig in their heels, Smash 4 has soften that stance a bit. I imagine Smash Ultimate will continue to do so as well.

Do you think Luigi's Mansion deserves to be on the poll? I think it would be stronger than Pikmin and Animal Crossing, at least.

Eh, the original Luigi's Mansion wasn't that well received.

It's hard to take the Nintendo 64 over the GameCube unless you value multiplayer games heavily.

I'm pretty sure the 1-2 punch of Super Mario 64 and Ocarina of Time solidifies the N64's fanbase, whatever the rest of the console's shortcomings are.

I mean the fact that the GameCube got that close to the N64 was a huge upset in that poll

In a straight 1 v 1 I'd take gamecube heavily

It's also difficult to say where all of the SNES votes would have gone. Though I guess some people vote which console has their favourite game rather than analyzing the overall product.

Re: Gamecube polls, looks like Smash and Prime fell a bit from last time, with Animal Crossing and Symphonia being the major benefactors from the lower votals.

oh hey first time we've had a Kingdom Hearts play rate poll

Not technically a KH playrate poll since this is a playrate poll for the entire series as a whole. Although it does provide a rough estimate for the playrate of the first 2 main games, it's not a proper substitute for a separate KH1 or KH2 playrate poll.

As of right now, slightly over 32% of the site has played KH1 or KH2 and at least one of the spin-off games, which is higher than I expected.

That is because there is a game on most consoles now.

I think once it reaches 25k, that'll be a good enough sample size. On with the bracket!

I just hope that at least we reach 2013's number of noms, and that we have a large enough number of characters. Is 128 a good number or could we use more?

No reason not to try to hit 2013 level of entrants if multiple matches a day can be run.

Games have way deeper pools of entrants.

I guess I like games contests more so I'd prefer that get the 1v1 treatment, but 256 characters didn't add anything that 256 games probably would.

128 is a good number because you just end up with so much fodder beyond that, as CBIX demonstrated. A few worthwhile entries will miss the bracket (especially as B8 more and more focuses on pet projects that are destined to be fodder), but them's the breaks.

Third tier zeldas and marios and final fantasies are worth more than third tier characters fasho.

Plenty of random RPGs that would do much better than their generic leads and stuff.

They didn't really flop THAT hard. Mario Sunshine and Skyward Sword still do better than...Groose.

sure but Groose getting bodied by Lu Bu of all people was wildly entertaining

granted so was Halo 3 beating Sunshine because my word this board really believes Nintendo wins any debatable match even when the character/game isn't liked

but either way we don't really need to see Mario Sunshine ever again because we saw all we needed to in GOTD

I'm also fine without seeing FFV or 4 Swords Adventures or whatever in a contest

Zelda 1 and the handheld titles would get in before Four Swords!

Well, Mario 1 got in back in 2009 and did a bang-up job.

But they can find their way into a smaller field, so we don't need to expand the field just to get Mario 1 or Zelda 1 in.

I think games like, say, Mario Kart 64 and Star Fox 64 would have strength in a contest setting, but will always struggle to gather nominations.

Though expanding the noms to 20 might help.

i dont think anyone bothers nomming Dark Link after years of him not being eligible

also i think people just dont care

well part of me wonders if SBAllen is going to have some other factor that determines who makes the bracket like how he used critical scores to form the 2015 field

not sure what extra criteria he could actually use for characters though
