Eh, the average Mega Man game isn't worth much here. That's a series where the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.

Pretty bad showing for Fallout 76. It's definitely being treated like the spinoff it is. But holy crap Battlefield V is getting humiliated. The series isn't strong, but previously Battlefield games have gotten 6-7.5%+ on polls like this. And this is a main game, not a spinoff or side game.

Battlefield V doing badly isn't too surprising here given the history of this poll:

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/poll/7005-

Ignoring the 2 polls before 2006, we can see that the "Not at all, I never play online" option has been increasing in every single poll after 2011. The percentage of users on GameFAQs who play games online has decreased big time over the past several years, and this may be why Call of Duty has imploded on this site as it's a primarily multiplayer-focused game. The same would be true for Battlefield V. This also has serious implications for any other multiplayer-focused game such as Overwatch and Splatoon when it comes to contest strength in a future Games Contest.

Very interesting, through the drop between Battlefield 1 and Battlefield V is still disproportionate. I guess what you point out might affect Fallout 76 too.

I wonder why that is.
I just decided to change this sig.
Blaaaaaaargh BKSheikah
Online gaming communities probably prefer sites like Twitch and Youtube to learn about the games, share videos, and interact with other players, while GameFAQs still has a niche focused on older games and RPGs in particular, things that are either single player or focus on local multiplayer, stuff where it's easier to look stuff up in text and where in some cases GameFAQs may even be the only resource available.

Just random conjecture on my part though.

The decline in multiplayer gaming on GameFAQs is directly related to the average age of the site's users going up at the same time. Seems like a lot of users have lost interest in multiplayer gaming as they've gotten older.

Any future game that is focused heavily on multiplayer will face a serious uphill battle to become relevant on GameFAQs.

I don't really have a quick way to figure that out since I haven't tracked it in the past. I think it has been pretty short in the past.

How long are nominations usually open for? Assuming a couple of weeks for noms and another couple for entries, it's not that much longer before there wouldn't be enough time to finish an average length contest before the holidays.
Congrats to 2017 Guru champ BKSheikah!

I think the probability is pretty high that we're going to again get several simultaneous matches per day for at least the first round or two.

Well, I don't see any reason for Allen to change the format from the last couple contests. It worked out pretty well for Games in 2015, and it allows him to have a big bracket while still letting everything be 1-on-1 for 24 hours.

The noms actually did open for the quote contest. I remember SBAllen making a post providing some nomination suggestions, even. Too bad it didn't go beyond that.

No, he got too much blowback from us and then the contest just disappeared.

didn't he originally want to run it because he thought it was a rally-proof idea

to be fair he was probably right but so was Best Year

Metal Gear Solid finished with a playrate of 62.50% in yesterday's poll. This is slightly higher compared to 5 years ago, but still well behind the playrate results in 2001 and 2005. But those early polls were from a much different time period in regard to the site's audience back then. Our current site audience includes a lot of people who joined the site after 2005, who might have been less likely to have played Metal Gear Solid.

The new result has been added here:

So I tried inputting the full names of the mainline Pokemon games and it brought up additional choices that wouldn't have shown up just by typing in "Pokemon". For Pokemon Black/White, it also brought up Oshawott, Snivy, and Tepig. I don't know if Allen added the Gen 5 starters to the auto-fill suggestions himself, or if they are actually getting nominations from other users.

I was thinking... how many times has fodder successfully pulled off a tripling? Of course, it could depend on where you draw the fodder line.

One obvious one is Max Payne's 76% on Dirk the Daring.

71% is not a tripling, though. And isn't it funny that Guybrush would likely win that match now, or at least make it close? I wish gamefaqscontests.com was working properly.

I wasn't able to find another 1v1 fodder-tripling character match, but here are some 3 or 4-way polls:

-Bidoof tripled Agent J.
-Chester was quadrupled by Zero from 999
-Waluigi tripled Alan Wake in 2013
-Lucina tripled Caim with ease (quintupling!)
-Spyro quadrupled Reyn.
