Pikachu actually hiding Crono's real strength as opposed to being a sign of a drop in popularity for CT.

not sure how much strength Pikachu hid because he still got over 47% there, so even if you took Magus out of the poll, there was still a good chance Crono would've lost

Whether or not Crono could have beat the rat without Magus isn't really that important, though. It's really asking the question of just how strong Pikachu really was in 2013. Because if Pikachu was basically an elite level competitor that year, then suddenly that Crono/Pikachu/Magus match shouldn't be looked at as a sign of a CT decline, and more like a red herring.

Eh, I'm sure Crono wasn't that far off from where he was in years past, but I don't think he was any better either. Mario still beat him in the bonus poll, and I think 2013 Mario was one of the weakest versions we've seen in a while.

Eh, I'm not sure the ports really help. Those are mostly just for people who are fans of the games already. Didn't seem to help FFX too much in 2015.

You clearly haven't played the PS4 port if you think it helps FF9's strength. The analog movement is completely botched on it, as well as character graphics not lining up well.

I think it's more because SotC flew under the radar a bit the year of its release (especially coming out the same year as Resident Evil 4), but its reputation has grown since then. It's happened with a few other games, too (Okami, Persona 4, and Oblivion come to mind).

Holy s***, Pokemon LGPE is getting undecupled by SSBU in this poll. We've seen words like quintupled and sextupled used before in discussing blowouts in contests, but this is the first time I've gotten a chance to use "undecupled" in a post. Yep, there's a word for getting destroyed 11 times over.

I never expected Pokemon LGPE to get destroyed this badly in a poll. It's even losing to Assassin's Creed here.

it's a lame spinoff game

it'd be getting crushed even if Smash weren't here
Pokemon Lets Go was simply not received well by the 'hardcore'/nostalgia fans since its taking a lot of cues from Pokemon Go which is what many gamers here dont want for the main series

It'll probably do better with casuals but not with the GameFAQs

Nintendo has stated the Let's Go games are considered "core" games, but not "mainline". It's in a gray area between mainline and spinoff, but I wouldn't consider this to be a spinoff game. The game plays much more similarly to the mainline games than the spinoff games.

Spinoff games include stuff like Pokemon Stadium, and the Mystery Dungeon games.

One positive to this separate branch of games is that it gives the hardcore fans assurance that these Pokemon Go gameplay elements won't ever appear in the mainline games.

The newer mainline games have already been dumbed down to the point of being casual-friendly games. Not only has the difficulty been scaled back quite a bit since the older games, but there's also unskippable tutorials at the start of the game. And beginning with Sun/Moon, the move selection screen in battle actually shows which moves are super effective/not very effective against the opposing Pokemon, which is another feature that has made the mainline games even more casual-friendly.

I don't think Let's Go being casual-friendly is an issue that many people on GameFAQs have a problem with, because that was already the case with the newer mainline games. It's the addition of some Pokemon Go mechanics that has annoyed the hardcore fans.

I keep saying this, but casualization of Let's Go is not the major problem
Nor is the Pokemon Go mechanics

But rather it's the lack of new content, lack of new things to be excited about, to look forward to
I follow Serebii on Twitter and receive phone notifications whenever he tweets.
Do you know how I treat Let's Go tweets? the exact same way I treat Pokemon Duel tweets - I swipe the notification to the right and ignore it and forget it ever happened
"A new Let's Go trailer" is a waste of time because I know there is nothing to look forward to. What will they show? another area from Kanto but in Let's Go graphics? Celadon Gym and Erika?
Riding on a Rhyhorn? come on
Then they showed Mega Gyarados and Mega Kangaskhan as a trailer..like, wow

GIVE US NEW CONTENT. Everyone knows that players are most looking forward to new Pokemon. Remember the hype for Sun and Moon as how every two weeks they showed a new Pokemon or a new Alola form or something? yeah
Even USUM had more new content to look forward too - Necrozma forms, new Ultra Beasts, Dusk Lycanroc, new Z Moves etc
Since new Pokemon are out of the question (besides that one new Pokemon they said will be in the game which is literally the only thing I am looking forward to and I hope they won't spoil it before the games come out) give us new forms! new Mega! new Alolan Pokemon even though we are not in Alola who cares! Hell, give us the Magikarp patterns from Magikarp Jump! ANYTHING

As it stands now the most exciting thing is Oddish in Viridian Forest, this is literally the biggest change. It's sad

With regards to today's poll, the combined Nintendo offerings only make up about 40% if the vote, so I don't think you can pin PLG's weak performance entirely on Ultimate.

For me the real question of this poll is is RDR2 doing so well against Ultimate and Ultimate only being on 33% a sign of its strength or Ultimate's weakness? Probably the former.

Probably a bit of both. I don't think Ultimate will be quite at the level of Melee/Brawl, though maybe it will be in another year or two, but it should already be stronger than Sm4sh. But RDR in general has been surprisingly strong on this site, and RDR2 has generally done well on these types of polls. I'm kinda curious now whether it will beat God of War for #2 in GotY this year.

Today's result isn't too far off from these 2 polls prior to the release of Brawl:

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/poll/2591-
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/poll/3004-

Brawl had 33.35% in a poll with 8 options (although with Galaxy present in the poll) and 36.82% in a poll with 9 options (but no other Nintendo games). Right now, Ultimate has 32.47%, but this poll has 12 options instead.

Good point on the number of games in the poll, that's a definite factor, but Brawl did face substantially stronger competition there.

Agreed, assuming RDR2 doesn't massively disappoint I think it will easily be the number two game. There is a pre-release poll where it wipes the floor with GoW (but loses to KHIII):

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/poll/6963-which-of-this-years-big-name-sequels-are-you-most-looking

It does make sense that Red Dead it does well here I think. GTA does fine, and despite not being as big as that series in terms of setting (and not being as overwhelmingly popular) Red Dead is probably more GameFAQs's speed. I'm not a GTA fan but I love RDR. Either way RDR2 and Ultimate will almost certainly be the two highest selling games of the year where non-annual releases are concerned, and maybe even including them.

Speaking of GotY, I was thinking about the indie poll because Into the Breach just came out on Switch and that's a fantastic game. Celeste is totally going to kill that poll like Stardew Valley and Cuphead before it though, isn't it? Pre-emptively RIP Into the Breach.

Pretty bad showing for Fallout 76. It's definitely being treated like the spinoff it is. But holy crap Battlefield V is getting humiliated. The series isn't strong, but previously Battlefield games have gotten 6-7.5%+ on polls like this. And this is a main game, not a spinoff or side game.

It about squares with the word on that game's preorders and general hype.

I beat Sun/Moon and I pretty sure it's the hardest mainline pokemon game so far.
Being made more functional and user friendly isn't = casual and easier.

It just means it's more well designed.
