Depends
on how much of what Pokemon did in 2013 is natural strength and how
much was bandwagon based (and how much of that still exists in 2018). If
they're all legitimately at that strength, Pikachu, Squirtle and Mewtwo
should all beat Ganondorf. But I'd have a hard time believing they'll

don't get those kinds of votals anymore, so that match is not
indicative of what we're experiencing now. Mewtwo in 2013 was a beast -
if he somehow keeps that max strength, Ganondorf would be in real

Princess hype seemed to boost Ganondorf after 2003, so yeah, just

I mean it doesn't have to be a powerhouse to be well liked and I wouldn't say UC4 is that weak I'd take it over XII and XIII no problem if nothing else |

Here's
an interesting tidbit from five years ago. SBAllen showed what poll
results would have changed if only registered votes counted. 5149: Jak over Draven 5171: Falcon over Alucard 5220: ?-Block over Rikku 5227: Mega Man X over Draven 5232: Luigi over Big Boss 5246: Mario over Vivi 5247: Missingno over Squall 5251: Zelda over Charizard 5253: Link over Draven 5255: Kirby over Sephiroth 5261: Charizard over Mega Man Interesting how the registered voters favored Nintendo in every single match where the results changed due to non-registered voters, except for the Draven matches. I'm interested, though... it would be interesting to get a list of all the close matches to see if there are any where the Nintendo character lost, yet the registered voters did not favor the Nintendo character. Sora/Pikachu/Blue comes to mind. Maybe Pokemon is not as heavily favored by registered voters as other Nintendo franchises? And so now I finally realize that Chrono Trigger likely would have smashed Smash Bros. even worse than the 62.8% or whatever CT got from the registered voters.... think any of them could win except probably not Sora. For those who were suggesting either registered vote polls or karma-weighted votes, check this out, spoken by SBAllen and copied from the Board 8 Wiki: http://board8.wikia.com/wiki/Summer_2013_Contest So, is this the last of the Character Battle (and Best Game Ever) contests in their current format? Maybe. There aren't going to be a lot of good memories from this one, and the issue of large external communities rallying is only going to get worse. Online games are getting bigger and more dedicated fanbases that are making the old Starcraft (Blizzard.net) and L-Block (4chan) rallies look rather tame. The problem is that there isn't really any fair way to limit who can vote. If we require registration to vote, we'll just get flooded with novelty accounts that are abandoned. It won't slow anyone down. If we only allow votes from people with X karma, it's unfair to the normal influx of new users who join our site on a daily basis to tell them that they aren't trusted enough to vote in our polls. That was five years ago, though, and perhaps SBAllen's thoughts have changed. But, all is not lost. We've got some ideas for at least one more home page bracket battle that (probably) shouldn't lend itself to such huge external rallies, and some other ideas on keeping the spirit of the Character Battle alive while giving the users of GameFAQs control over the outcome. Whether or not those ideas come to fruition depends a lot on you, the members of Board 8, and what you want to happen. You're some of the oldest and most dedicated users of GameFAQs, and a lot of the most enjoyable, but the amount of hate and vitriol over the past few weeks has been unacceptable. You can disagree with what I did (or didn't do), but the personal attacks don't really help the situation at all. But, I'd like to think that's just a small and vocal minority, so we'll see how it plays out from here. It seems it didn't come into fruition for the 2015 Games Contest, but after five years now.... However, those 70,000 visitors from Reddit are a drop in the bucket to our overall site traffic. Reddit accounted for less than 5% of our traffic that day, which is a whole lot more than they normally do, but for comparison, weekends this time of year give us a 16% boost in traffic over weekdays. The poll page, even with the increase in traffic from reddit, wasn't even the most popular page on the site on Labor Day (that was the home page, as always). A lot of people seem to think that I'm doing everything possible to keep Draven in the contest so we keep getting the boost in traffic, but it is simply such an irrelevant boost that it wouldn't be worth the effort. We aren't interested in people who hit the site and never come back. Okay, it's good to be reminded that point of the contests are not to increase traffic. In other words, SBAllen is doing these contests out of the goodness of heart for all the Board 8 peepz, I guess. I guess we should be extra nice to him this time around. Weird considering the relative strength of The Last of Us (and God of War, for Sony first party stuff). Uncharted 4 is probably the strongest one and would still get doubled by those. 2016 did not have very many "GameFAQs games" i.e. huge action-adventure or RPGs. Pokémon and Final Fantasy won by default. I have little doubt that FFXV is the weakest GotY winner not called Modern Warfare 2. I just decided to change this sig. Blaaaaaaargh BKSheikah |

Uncharted
4 would not get doubled by The Last of Us and God of War, and FFXV
would not lose to Borderlands 2. I'm not sure Witcher 3 would beat it
either. |

really don't have any confidence in FFXV. FFXII was decently popular
when it came out, but its characters dropped the ball in contests. Hell,
I might even take Joker over Noctis, considering how popular Persona 5

I forgot about Borderlands 2. Fair play on that one though I might personally take it over FFXV. TW3 beats FFXV and it isn't especially close. I also stand by my doubling comment, Uncharted 2 looked pretty weak in 2015 (TLoU and GotD GoW would have almost doubled). I also think TLoU and GoW have strengthened as brands while Uncharted is weaker or the same overall. Remember, Portal 2 would have 60/40'd Uncharted 2 in 2015, and I'd take both of the games I mentioned over that... I just decided to change this sig. Blaaaaaaargh BKSheikah |

Uncharted 2 looked pretty weak in 2015 (TLoU and GotD GoW would have almost doubled) I mean if we're going by GotD then GoW gets 58% on UC2 besides you can't really trust UC2's 2015 stats anyway because it got stuck in the Undertale division I'd be skeptical of taking the original GoW over Portal 2. GoW's (the game and the series) always been fairly strong. It did
really well against Half-Life 2 back when that game was worth something! I do admit I am running on the assumption that it is still as strong as it used to be which is a fairly large one! I just decided to change this sig. Blaaaaaaargh BKSheikah |
It also lost to ToS once and barely beat it a second time it also couldn't beat friggin' Mario Kart DS in GotY but yeah the fact that it couldn't even get into the last Games Contest would make me think it's not as strong as it used to be |
How much did Undertale rallies affect the Sonic 2/Uncharted 2 match? Uncharted 2 will probably be able to blow out fodder like it did the last contest, but it will struggle to keep up with other midcarders. think the new God of War might give Kratos some decent strength. He's
not a newcomer, and it was pretty well-received. Not exactly GameFAQs'

I think it'll help him this year for sure because 2018 doesn't have a lot of standout games so far. |
I'm
kinda thinking God of War might beat out Smash for GotY this year
simply because the Switch still hasn't fully taken off on this site yet,
while GoW has the might of the PS4, the legacy of its series, and the

Nah,
Smash Ultimate will win. Just the name alone will carry it. Breath of
the Wild had no problems dismantling Persona 5 last year, and the Switch
has another year under its belt now. #3 game might be the new Spider-Man if it turns out to be well received. |
