Best Year in Gaming was boring because no one cared about it. The previous contest was ruined for a lot of people by the rallies because we wanted a "traditional" contest. We pretty much have to accept we're never going to have those and just go with the rallies. Besides, at least the two games that benefited the most from rallies made sense - Undertale's popularity went viral at the time and Melee has a thriving tournament scene. And honestly the idea of a Breath of the Wild rally vs. a rally for some other recent popular game sounds pretty cool. And honestly, how many matches will we get where the winner is outright different because of rallies? Not too many TBH. Yeah they may be able to decide the winners, but sometimes it's the journey that counts. The Summer 2013 contest made no sense at all though. has dropped enough that Vincent can struggle vs KOS-MOS and lose to
Phoenix, while Cloud can lose to a Pokemon. Why couldn't Sephiroth have
fallen enough for Sonic to beat him? Especially without the FF7 remake

those were multi-way matches and Vincent had one of the worst pictures ever against Mewtwo/Phoenix I think Cloud would've beaten Squirtle 1-on-1 |

Being
too good in Smash isn't necessarily a good thing either. SSB4 should
still be a net positive for Bayonetta but it wouldn't surprise me if she
has a sizable anti-vote base. This was not the best year for my bracket. Congrats to BK_Sheikah00 for winning the BYIG Guru Contest! |
The
anti-votes wouldn't be enough to offset the many votes that could come
from other people only knowing who Bayonetta is thanks to Smash Bros.
The only ones really mad about Bayonetta are the ones who played the
game a lot. (It also looks like she's been nerfed quite a lot in Smash

Mania
and Mania Plus were the best selling Sonic games in like a decade or
something. They got great reviews, too. Even a short animated series
that got a decent amount of views. But on the other hand Forces came out right after Mania and it was aaaaaaaass. Really, really bad. The DLC with Shadow as awful, too. It really put a stain on how great Mania was. There's also a live-action movie coming out and it looks pretty bad. Jim Carrey as live action Eggman. What timeline is this? So yeah Sonic probably isn't super strong but at least he's staying relevant Is this Elite Beat Agents 2? |

have seen all of Sonic Boom! I even have DVD rips I put aside to show
my kids someday. Really great show. Shame there probably won't be a

I'm
not sure if bad Sonic games really hurt Sonic much these days.
Everybody just expects new Sonic games to suck, so most people only
bother with the good ones. I think would probably take a huge string of
consistently bad games or a massive Sonic 2006-level failure to really
swing opinions on him much. Without that, he'll probably be fine just
riding nostalgia and the occasional good game. Also, I think it helps that pretty much everybody regards the Sonic franchise as a bit of a joke these days. It makes it very hard for anything bad to really stick because it's just Sonic being Sonic. Congrats to 2017 Guru champ BKSheikah! |

I wasn't around during the games contest but I popped in once and a while to check and I wasn't surprised I never played Undertale and I don't want to, everyone was constantly fellating it and it just killed my interest. A fanbase that "passionate" kills my interest in anything. Is this Elite Beat Agents 2? |

actually haven't mentioned it to anyone until now, but I started
playing Undertale like a month ago with a little bit of hype. Haven't
had much time lately to advance more though, but the overall popularity
was the thing that convinced me to play it. Here lies the sig of BK_Sheikah00, who swore fealty to the Gurus of Board 8. |
