1998's just too stacked. a bit surprised LttP is beating out OoT right now. We'll have to wait
and see if this is just the board vote anti-voting OoT. I'm quite pleased with Breath of the Wild beating out Twilight Princess and Majora's Mask. Breath of the Wild falls off a cliff on that update, with both Majora's Mask and The Wind Waker overtaking it. The OoT underperformance could be the result of Breath of the Wild being in this poll, since there are some people who think it's even better than OoT. It's reasonable that ALttP crushes this poll, since there are a lot more 3D Zelda games than 2D Zelda games in the options. The only game that splitting the 2D Zelda vote is really Zelda 1, since both FSA and Zelda 2 are fodder. Meanwhile, OoT has to split the 3D Zelda vote with quite a few games of decent strength, especially TP and MM, both of which play and feel very similar to OoT. If you run the poll instead with like Zelda 1 Zelda 2 ALttP LA OoA/OoS MC OoT then OoT would probably crush this poll. congrats to BKSheikah the BYIG guru |
I think the board vote is tired of seeing Ocarina of Time featured and is voting for other Zelda games. One
hour into this poll and OoT is still under 45% on LttP. We're past the
point where anti-votes could affect OoT's performance here, so I'll
blame extreme LFF on this bad performance. FFVII won the large 14-way Final Fantasy poll back in 2014 because the format makes it almost impossible to anti-vote FFVII. Today's poll should make anti-voting OoT very difficult and it's currently losing. It's
amazing how strong OoT really is tbh. Even with the new "OoT
surpasser" in BOTW and several other console zeldas it's still managing
to get so many votes. Lttp should be ahead by a lot more. But looking at the poll itself. Skyward sword LOL. Rightly so. Pathetic excuse for a zelda game. Would love to see skyward sword in future contests against even mid tier games to see it get embarrassed. The only zelda game I didn't enjoy bar zelda 2. TP is a bit overrated too. But still decent. Botw is still a pretty significant entrant. And games like majoras mask for remakes as well as wind water and TP. |

No but what it does tell us is it will be a force as far as modern games go. It has goty on lockdown. As much as I think skyrim was a well made and great game. Skyward sword being doubled in a goty poll by a non nitendo square game was just Embarrassing. This is a game that barely got 60% on friggin Phoenix wright. I'm happy with this BotW performance. Its GameFAQs playrate has
to be low, so I think a good chunk of this support is driven by
word-of-mouth. That may sem counterproductive toward its GameFAQs
strength, but good word of mouth is essential in our contests (only the
strongest and/or most iconic games have high playrates). If BotW
maintains this good karma, I can see it grow stronger as Switch

Yeah,
the fact it's also on Wii U is why it's doing well in this poll. Take
the Wii U version out of the picture, and BotW looks even worse here. Normally, games that come out near the beginning of a year are at a disadvantage in the GotY polls. Late year releases (October-December) have the advantage in the GotY polls on this site since they're much more recent. For BotW, this might actually be a good thing instead, since it gives the game a lot more time to build up its playrate as ownership of the Switch also increases. The only other competitor to BotW in the GotY polls would be Persona 5, and that game was released only a month after BotW. Persona 5 will be nearly 9 months old by the time we start the GotY polls.
