Yeah, it's a really good looking pic, if nothing else. |
UItimaterializer posted... Something was going to get snubbed. Probably should have been Daytona USA. Yoblazer http://i.imgur.com/gByqgPg.gif |
lol There's no excuse for not having Mega Man X. None. |
Oh my gosh someone else was trying to get Lemmings into a match pic lmao Now I know how Zen felt all these years. People b****ing about snubs is hilarious in its own way. Get the X out. Vinateri was using his god powers on the Pats and then was like "Wait I'm a Colt now lol" and now you have it. (edited 5/17/2017 2:36:08 PM)report |
PSI_NESS posted... lol There's no excuse for not having Mega Man X. None. The easy explanation is you can't pretend only one system's games exist in a given year. The only snub of note is the SNES system. Get the X out. Vinateri was using his god powers on the Pats and then was like "Wait I'm a Colt now lol" and now you have it. |
Also,
the best thing in this pic is that 1991 got Mario and Sonic side by
side. If it's going to take advantage of whatever nostalgia boost that's
worth, now's the time. |
PSI_NESS posted... Allen must have 91 in his bracket *sigh* itd be a pretty big conflict of interest if Allen even had a bracket Started from the bottom now we here |
He could have a Fun Bracket imo. |
what
is becoming really confusing is that 1991 now gets final fantasy 4 in
the title but 94 still gets final fantasy 3 instead of 6. it looks
stupid Started from the bottom now we here |
The FF games should've had their real numbers to begin with. |
haloiscoolisbak posted... PSI_NESS posted...Allen must have 91 in his bracket *sigh* He's on the leaderboard, actually. I don't think he's making decisions based on his bracket, but still, Mega Man X should be there. Congrats to DpOblivion, winner of the BGE3 Guru |
MMX being snubbed is a bit of a big deal - that game is very strong, moreso than people realize. Black Turtle did a pretty good job. |
Allen's bracket is most likely a Fun Entry. Not that there's any reason for him to sabotage the Contest in the first place. Currently 20th place in The GameFAQs Best Year In Gaming Contest! |
UItimaterializer posted... Oh my gosh someone else was trying to get Lemmings into a match pic lmao Yep. (I made the Lemmings pic) I made a Mega Man X pic but clearly SB didnt like it lol ISFJ. 1997 – 50.00% 1996 – 30.93% 2000 – 30.08% 2007 – 29.02% Well, there's all the proof you need that 2000 got absolutely screwed by match pictures. I wish there was a way to communicate through Sailor Bacon's thick skull that pics matter, and should be reviewed for fairness ahead of time. Even tomorrow, MMX not being in 1994 really hurts it against 1991 (though given all we've seen so far, I doubt 1991 beats 1994). With proper pictures that represented the information we had before the contest (consoles being mentioned, Diablo 2 and GSC for 2000), my bracket would likely be perfect right now, going into tomorrow's match. DpObliVion, my hat is off to you. Welcome to the Guru Champions Club lol xstats |

Well,
in the case of FFIV and FFVI, those were the names they were given when
they were released in the U.S. so it makes sense in this case. |
NowItsAngeTime posted... UItimaterializer posted...Oh my gosh someone else was trying to get Lemmings into a match pic lmao I tried with the box art. It's the best picture that game has. Get the X out. Vinateri was using his god powers on the Pats and then was like "Wait I'm a Colt now lol" and now you have it. |
Also,
important thing to remember going into the match: 1994 has bled absurd
amounts of percentage in both of its matches, so it probably needs to
have a pretty sizable lead early on to feel safe about it. |
yeah. 1991 is unique though.. it's not facing a casual year like 04 or 07. it will look like gangbusters early though. add the c and back away iphonesience |
Well,
I don't think 1994 needs to be at like 65% or something in order to
feel safe out of the gate. Probably close to 60% though. |

With proper pictures that represented the information we had before the contest (consoles being mentioned, Diablo 2 and GSC for 2000), my bracket would likely be perfect right now, going into tomorrow's match. 1995 had a massive picture disadvantage and it beat 1987 anyways so you would have still gotten that one wrong. My bracket got smashed by DpObliVion. Congrats to DpObliVion for winning the BGE15 Guru Contest! |
Match XXXI – Round 3 – 1991 vs. 1994 Previous Results 1991 Round 1: Defeated 1988, 87.54% - 12.46% Round 2: Defeated 2002, 54.91% - 45.09% 1994 Round 1: Defeated 2004, 58.69% - 41.31% Round 2: Defeated 2011, 62.02% - 37.98% Analysis After the first round the board was fairly confident in 1991, but now things appear to be a bit more even, with perhaps 1994 being considered a slight favourite. I always expected 2002 and 2004 to have some strength though they were clearly going to be weaker than 1991 and 1994. This was one the most debated matches during the bracket making period. Between 2002 and 2004 I feel 2002 is a bit stronger. Metroid Prime and Kingdom Hearts are both a stronger pair and had better picture position than Metal Gear Solid 3 and Half-Life 2. With that said 1994 does have some breathing room to work with. Among the games Super Mario World is considered to be the strongest though I feel Final Fantasy VI would go even against it. 1994 also has Super Metroid which easily defeats anything else 1991 has to offer. There is a chance we could see some SFF in this match. We’ve seen it in matches with years from the same generation; 1987/1985 and 1997/1996. SNES fans could potentially flock towards 1994, but I can see Genesis and Arcade fans going with 1991, though to be fair SNES fans do outnumber the other platforms. I’m going to bet on SFF, but I wouldn’t be surprised if the match turns out to be one of the closest in the contest. charmander6000’s Bracket: 1994 > 1991 charmander6000’s Prediction: 1994 wins, 63.12% - 36.88% Best Year in Gaming - Today's Winner: 2000 (oops) Current Bracket Score: 37/40 |
you're expecting a close one then predict 63% for 94? Started from the bottom now we here |

How so? The entirety of 1995's strength was in Chrono Trigger. The only games that were snubbed were other SNES darlings that would have added little to CT's existing voter base. 2000 was missing a very strong Game Boy release, and probably the #2 or #3 PC game on this site (behind HL2), both of which add a lot of strength and diversity to the Zelda/FF block that it already had. DpObliVion, my hat is off to you. Welcome to the Guru Champions Club lol xstats |
Mario and Sonic will go into the match brothers in arms and take 94 to the cleaners. |

I agree with you on 2000 getting screwed. My comment was strictly about 1995 vs 1987. 1987 pretty much already had a pretty close to perfect picture so it has little room to gain from improved pictures. I think you are underestimating how much stronger Yoshi's Island and Earthbound are compared to Full Throttle and Rayman but any strength they add to 1995 just makes 1995's win bigger. Not sure if I understand what you're saying? The pic says FF IV, it was called FF II back then. Meanwhile FF VI has a pic saying III. That's inconsistent pic labeling. Plus, for contests, haven't they always been called IV and VI? I doubt it matters, but IV everyone should get, while a rare few might confuse III for the NES title. I mean I doubt it matters, but labelling should be consistent. |

Lightning Strikes posted... Is this true? I went through that poll and all of the previous times we had that poll and tried to calculate the average amount of playtime per week. Here were the average playtimes (in hours) for each poll: 4/9/2016 - 20.88 3/2/2014 - 21.95 3/1/2011 - 21.64 10/7/2009 - 20.43 1/24/2003 - 25.88 Other than that 2003 poll, I'm not really seeing any major drop off in playtime as the average age of the site's users has increased. Allen has generally gone with FFII/IV and III/VI when labeling them in Games Contests in the past, but when he made the pics for this contest, he went by their original SNES names because that's what they were known as when they came out. |

favors '91. (my bracket has 1991, but I'm rooting for 1994...) "Ah, a party! We haven't had one of those. It could be fun. So... what is a party?" "Well, you drink punch and eat CAKE! ...I think." |
