GameFAQs Contests
Contest Stats and Discussion - Part 1272
Metal_DK posted... No, it wouldn't of. FF12 barely has a fanbase (fun fact, FFX will be the last FF worth a damn in anything gfaqs contest related). KH2 doesnt have much contest strength anymore either. Most people have moved on to WRPGs anyway, and Skryim (despite it being meh imo) is praised by plenty of people. Kingdom Hearts II and Final Fantasy XII would have ABSOLUTELY brought in more votes here than Gears of War and Oblivion (especially when Oblivion was matched up against Skyrim). On top of that, Okami should have been the bottom pic of that year - not the leading picture. Yay - DpObliVion is the guru champion of awesomeness. |
kh2 shouldn't have any contest strength because it sucks If you wake up at a different time, in a different place, could you wake up as a different person? #theresafreakingghostafterus |
Kingdom Hearts 1 had far better story and worlds. Kingdom Hearts 2 had far better gameplay and Gummi ships. Yay - DpObliVion is the guru champion of awesomeness. |
I
don't know if KH2 would've won 2006 the match, but I think it would've
at least made the match as close as today's was. If the top two pics
were KH2 and TP, then I'd probably give it to 2006. It's kinda messed up how important pics are for this contest and how arbitrarily they're chosen. Not_Wylvane |
http://www.thengamer.com/xstats/ranks.php?year=2015g KH2 is right up there with TP and Skyrim in contest strength. it would've definitely made a difference. Seeing DpOblivion win the Guru Contest... ...it fills me with determination. |
Might as well celebrate my time on the leaderboard while I can... Seeing DpOblivion win the Guru Contest... ...it fills me with determination. |
The
vote totals today are a bit surprising with 1997/2007 on track for less
votes than 1997/1999, while 2000/1996 is getting less votes than
1996/1989. The rather poor vote totals for today's matches can be explained by the matches happening on a Saturday (the day with the worst average vote totals). Since the start of 2016, this is our average vote totals for each day of the week: Monday - 17580 Tuesday - 17789 Wednesday - 17541 Thursday - 17907 Friday - 16484 Saturday - 15699 Sunday - 17131 Weekdays are generally very favorable in bringing in votes, with the exception of Friday. Saturday is easily the worst day for vote totals, although Sunday comes fairly close to matching Monday-Thursday for vote totals. Metal_DK posted... People still going through the 5 stages of grief on 2006? It was pretty easy to predict, Skyrim is significantly more popular than any 2006 game....including Twilight Princess Metal_DK posted... No, it wouldn't of. Most people have moved on to WRPGs anyway, and Skryim (despite it being meh imo) is praised by plenty of people. So much wrong with these posts! I think TP beats Skyrim. KHII is very strong. GameFAQs hasn't moved onto western games as much as most sites. |
Only ten perfect brackets left. |
it's my leaderboard now |
I am flat out shocked at 1994's performance out of the gate here. Would 2004 really have beaten 2011 that badly? Yay - DpObliVion is the guru champion of awesomeness. (edited 5/13/2017 9:03:19 PM)report |
Only 94 -1s? Hopefully, enough of them will lose before 96 goes down so I can taste the leaderboard for this contest. Agent Triple Zero at your service! This line reserved for 2017 Guru champion. |
cyko posted... I am flat out shocked at 1994's performance out of the gate here. Would 2006 really have beaten 2011 that badly? This is just a validation of how strong 2004 was. |
I
knew 2011 would be weaker than 2004, but not by this huge of an amount.
Although the night vote is going to seriously drag 1994 down rather
hard from that Europe vote. Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as DpObliVion, Guru Champ! |

2002 is going to race up close to 1991, but hold at around 55%. My prediction... |
Yesterday's X-Stats: 1997 – 50.00% 2007 – 29.02% 1999 – 22.75% 2012 – 13.60% 1996 – 50.00% 2000 – 48.62% 1990 – 33.74% 1989 – 16.31% 1983 – 9.88% 5-minute X-Stats: 1991 – 50.00% 2002 – 37.07% 2010 – 21.97% 1988 – 12.46% 1994 – 50.00% 2004 – 41.31% 2011 – 24.57% 2006 – 22.18% 1981 – 11.41% 2004 would get 70.26% on 2011 and 73.15% on 2006 right now. |

LeonhartFour posted... Also, 1994/2011 is a classic scenario for a THE OLD DAYS WERE WAY BETTER THAN THIS NEWFANGLED CRAP overperformance It's crazy how much of a factor this seems to be. It was expected that older games would be inherently stronger and that older years would get a nostalgia boost but daaaaamn. Black Turtle did a pretty good job. |
LeonhartFour posted... Yesterday's X-Stats: Somethings just feels.... off about that. I never would have picked 2004 over 2006 or 2011. I definitely would not have expected 2004 to blow either of them out that badly. No way. Yay - DpObliVion is the guru champion of awesomeness. |
cyko posted... I never would have picked 2004 over 2006 or 2011. Why? 2004 is a ridiculously loaded year. It's probably the second or third strongest modern year, behind 2001 and maybe 2000. I'd give it a good chance against 2000. (edited 5/13/2017 9:19:38 PM)report |
Also, 1994 is looking a little more sane now. 2004 is only projected to get 63.87% on 2011 as of right now. |
The pics certainly played a role, but I would have thought - Kingdom Hearts 2 > MGS3 Twilight Princess > Half Life 2 Final Fantasy XII > Tales of Symphonia Okami > World of Warcraft Oblivion > GTA:SA I don't see how 2004 could have competed with that. Yay - DpObliVion is the guru champion of awesomeness. |
Wow 1994! Looks like it's as strong as expected after all. 1991 vs 1994 is debatable again. I have 1991 in my bracket, but I prefer 1994 so I hope it wins. Though it's very close in terms of my personal preference, 1991 is loaded too. |
again I don't think you can play the math like that it's fun to look at but it's not always going to add up (also Symphonia would beat FFXII and I don't think KHII is a guaranteed win over MGS3) (edited 5/13/2017 9:20:57 PM)report |
holding 94 under 60% is a moral victory |

pjbasis posted... holding 94 under 60% is a moral victory the worst kind of victory still upset about the raw deal 2004 got |
I'm
thinking 1991's performance last round was near-useless for gauging its
strength. Aside from any possible similar-era SFF or whatever between
1991 and 1988, 1988 featured a Zelda game most Zelda fans don't like, a
Metal Gear game most Metal Gear fans don't like, a JRPG the vast
majority of JRPG fans haven't played, and a WRPG the vast majority of
WRPG fans haven't played. [NO BARKLEY NO PEACE] [NO DpObliVion NO PEACE] |
Huh, 2002 stalled 1991 a bit there. That's not what I wanted to see. |
It should have been switched with 03 or 05, but I guess he liked his ten year gap battles |

cyko posted... I don't see how 2004 could have competed with that. 2004 is probably the biggest anomaly out of all the years in this contest. The year appears to be stronger than you would expect when considering the modern day strength of the games released during that year. 1991 only gained one vote that time. uh oh |
That's a bit better. I'm not feeling so good about 1991 next round if it can't outdo what 1994 got on 2004 though. |
I think it'll fine this is just telling you what a difference a keyblade makes |
Hey, alright! I'm on the leaderboard! Too bad I'm off by an order of magnitude on my tiebreaker. And also that I apparently backed the wrong horse for today's fights. Have 2011 and 2002 both winning for some stupid reason, and even if they do flip, I missed a zero when I did the tiebreaker calculation. Plugged in 1500 instead of 150000 (edited 5/13/2017 9:47:44 PM)report |

I don't think 2002 beats 2004 so I'm not sure it's fine. but this contest consistently makes no sense so whatever (edited 5/13/2017 9:58:47 PM)report |
2002 would thoroughly dumpster 2004. 2004 is "the WoW year" and I still remember how much this site loathed that game when it came out. 2004 also has Grand Theft Auto dragging it down. Wouldn't even be close. 2002 probably would break 60% on it given how this contest has played out.
