2001 isn't looking great. Chrono Trigger is a goddamn monster for being able to carry its year like this.

As much as I want to say this is true, it's not just Chrono Trigger. Round 1 and Round 2 was Chrono Trigger trying to solo the contest. That would not have been enough to beat 2001. The other 1995 games showing up is why 1995 might steal the win.

Yeah, seeing some games of actual strength (but nothing that would beat 2001's fourth) backing Chrono Trigger really tells us how badly it was handicapped earlier.

Looking like we are going back to normal.

Poor 2000 on that note though :( Imagine how strong that year would be if it got it's ideal pics, with this example being shown right now.

It's pretty early so far, but I'm already seeing a clear increase in vote totals for this match compared to previous matches at this point in the match. I guess with 8 games being displayed at once (2 per rotation), we might be seeing people being more likely to vote since they have more information available to them.

I think this is a combination of two things.

1. CT maintaining its status as an absolute monster. 2015 was no fluke!
2. The SNES holds an innate advantage over anything non-SNES (apart from the very strongest of the PS1/N64). This was also evident in the 2015 contest.

If 2000 defeated 1997 (and 1994 > 1991) I'd be in line to win a prize (1st is out since I have a worse tiebreaker relative to someone else in the guru).

Trends tonight could be interesting. FFX and SSBM have about as diametrically opposite trends as 2 games can get. I guess 2001 will be pretty middle of the road.

I don't see 1995 having anything that's going to help it when we get to Euro trends.

Yeah, I still feel like 2000 could of had given 97 a good match at it's max strength, at least better then what 96 is going to do.

By the way, the better 1995 looks, the better 1987 looks, heheheh... even if 1995 is doing better due to its picture. Because whether 1995 has 55% or or 30%, we know the picture has improved it.

Vote totals are almost 200 votes higher than yesterday at the same time.

Based on the first 30 minutes, I think we're on track for around 19000 votes, which would be nearly 3000 votes higher than what previous matches were averaging.

Assuming a 19000 vote average for the remaining matches of this contest, we're on track for roughly 589000 total votes for the entire contest as a whole (for the tiebreaker question).

We should see some level of improvement with the votals considering there's one less choice to make. Won't amount to too much, but even a slight uptick is nice.

Surprised 95 is doing this well. 2001 absolutely demolishes 1995.

It would be tragic if we don't have a 2000+ game in the semis. And 01 deserves it.

Earthbound is really bad with the European vote too, IIRC. It completely collapsed in 2009 if memory serves.

Europe is going to make sure 95 gets buried.

FFX is an absolute beast in Europe. Probably only behind ff7 as europes strongest game on this site.

And the vote stuffing begins....

Years have not had the same trends as the games that are in them, so don't take that as a guarantee of anything.

Looks like 1995 is stronger with better pics. 1987 will probably be overrated in the stats. Not that it matters as we'll never have this contest again.

Still, 1987 appears to be stronger than I would've thought.

Grand Theft Auto III does well in Europe too so the first rotation may be a massacre during the dead zone, then you have nothing for 1995 vs. Melee in the second rotation.

I really wish DKC2 and Yoshi's Island was the second rotation, but that's not going to help 1995 with the Europe vote any.

Odd, there's a 12:06 update that has less votes than the 12:05 update. Wonder what happened there.

The 12:05 update is incorrect and the 12:06 update is the real freeze. Sometimes GameFAQs will show incorrect vote totals when you visit the poll results page at any point in between the normal 5 minute update cycle and these updates are sometimes picked up by your updater. The odds of seeing incorrect vote totals when visiting the poll results page is extremely low (about a 2% chance based on what I've found through testing).

It's like people just watch the first pic they see and vote based on that nstead of looking at the games they like and making a proper honest decision

We should have had a round without any pictures. Just the year and a list of games.

2001 is winning the uk 84% to 16 and 60 plus in most European countries.

50.5 in the us. The USA is the only reason 95 isn't getting pummelled. I suspect the day vote will put it up to about 5-53 in favour of 2001.

My prediction is around a 54% win for 2001 by the end

If 1995 really is a monster with it's middle of the pack games, 2001 should be fine.
