It is all I can do but be salty.
1997 vs 2007 is probably the hardest one so far but for the wrong reasons. For me it's a 2nd grade contest, and stripping the choices down to just my absolute favourite games of the years gives the nod to 2007, even though in my bracket (and opinion) it lost to 1999.
If you ran the world, it would probably be on fire right now.

To think I'm possibly one pic of GSC away from getting a perfect bracket this contest.

The votals are so low that even a minor rally anywhere could swing the Match.

The problem is this is battle between best gaming years. I think most people only care about single entities like games and characters for it to have any effect.

So I just came back. Seems 1996 is winning. I have that one in the bracket too. Before the bracket it was the favorite for sure. But after the matches it seems that 2000 became the heavy favorite. Crew and others almost all of them picked it up.
Does anyone knows how many of the gurus had 1996 over 2000?

My perfect hinges on this match yet I still don't feel nearly as invested as a close match even between two losers in the games/characters contests.

Kinda sucks that both my upset specials were decided against me by a result within 53/47 (one of them being a much bigger upset, of course). Oh, well. Better luck next time.

Bolto4 5/13/2017 4:24:05 PM#36
With a favorable picture, you think this is about a 53-54% win for 2000? Sucks that another close match got decided by a unfair picture, even though this time I was on the right end of it, but the picture with it this close definitely decided the match.

In the off chance 96 somehow kept it close with 97 next round, I think 97 looked too strong to drop that match but if it was close, oh boy this current result will end up being a lot worse then right now.

I picked 97 next round not because it has FF7 but because of SOTN.Easily one of the best 2D platformers ever created.

But I do think diversity is meaningless and we should get the best games.

"Badly executed" is the words I use in regarding to the pics. I get the idea of varying the game selection if possible, but the order of the pics should be strongest to weakest, and a year should be able to at least get its two strongest games without question.

I think there's 3 main problems:

1. The biggest one - For some years, Allen prioritized variety, while for others he said f*** it and gave it their 4 best games, variety be damned. This is most obvious with 1995 vs. 1987. 1995 had some bad fodder to avoid multiple SNES games, while 1987 had 4 NES games.

2. Handheld games are getting slightly shafted. I get that a lot of gamers hate them, and many others view them as strictly second class. But there is the occasional really great one, and I feel like we're 50/50 on them actually making the match pics. Link's Awakening is the most blatant since its easily the big 1993 game on this site and even several others. And obviously Pokemon G/S would've helped a lot today.

2. 2006 just got royally screwed for no reason. There's no defending Twilight Princess at the bottom and Kingdom Hearts 2 not in the pic. I honestly think that Allen did this just to make the vs. 2011 match "more interesting". I don't think any other year got this randomly screwed for no reason, but maybe I'm forgetting one.

If Kingdom Hearts II and Final Fantasy XII were featured in the scrolling pics, 2006 would have won.

No, it wouldn't of. FF12 barely has a fanbase (fun fact, FFX will be the last FF worth a damn in anything gfaqs contest related). KH2 doesnt have much contest strength anymore either. Most people have moved on to WRPGs anyway, and Skryim (despite it being meh imo) is praised by plenty of people.

GameFAQs isn't most people. And KH2 looked great against Melee, which went on to do great things that contest.
