Getting this match wrong won't kill my bracket, but dammit I'm the closest I've ever been to #1 in one of these contests. I don't want to fall off the leaderboard here.

MM would absolutely fodderize LoZ, yeah.

I kinda doubt it, honestly.

MM would win, but I think LoZ would hold up well against anything else in the series other than OoT or maybe LttP.

I think LttP would SFF LoZ more than OoT would

MM might be able to SFF LoZ, but the natural strength isn't too far off.

Though with a performance from 87 like this, this does bode better for 00 against 96 despite now it's assured it won't be competing at max power, before today I would of had said 00 was screwed with the same match pic but after seeing this, I think 00 is still looking good to win that, this match stripped confidence in 96.

The reason i have 1995 winning in my bracket is because of Yoshi Island and Earthbound, not Full Throtle and Panzer Dragoon something, what the f*** is Allen thinking?
Thia match right now is just "Chrono Trigger vs Zelda, Metroid, Castlevania and Mega Man" and it leads by some miracle

Can anyone confirm that "Full Throttle" was literally Allen just trolling the s*** out of us?

Full Throttle recently got a remastered HD version released, and Panzer Dragoon is considered to be the best release title for Saturn.

Allen is trying to show what games different people played that year. It's not his fault 4 legendary series started in America last year.

Jumping Flash should've been there instead of Rayman IMO.

Seems like 95 is slowly pulling away.
I think it might be safe.

Should still use each years accepted strongest game first in rotation for fairness sake

After that early scare from 1987 after the board vote died off until we got to the end of the Power Hour, 1995 is showing a clear night vote advantage here. We know from the age polls that the Power Hour has the youngest voters on average out of all the time periods. The voters who would have traditionally voted during the ASV before 2011 are young enough to fall into the age demographic for the Power Hour.

Wow cant believe I got a perfect round 1. This has never happened before.

I had a perfect round 1 once.

(it was the Rivals contest, where pretty much everyone had one, but I'll count it!)

I like the points system for the later rounds.
One or two wrong picks leaves the door open and you can go from being in the top 50 to being in the hundreds group.

Most of these later matches can go either way. No bracket is safe, including the currently perfect ones.

I don't think this is true. I think LoZ holds up well to MM.

Full Throttle is the most earned of the three. It had a significant remaster very recently, and is fairly unique.

Rayman over both DKC2 and Yoshi's Island though, odd choice.

However, I don't think Earthbound, Donkey Kong Country, and Yoshi's Island form a better lineup than Mega Man, Castlevania and Metroid. 1987 still has the pic advantage.

Same level of raw depth but 1987 is a lot more even. However Chrono Trigger is a big advantage. I think that looks like a 55/45.

2001 is an absolute beast. It's clearly the 2nd strongest year in the contest.

Shame we don't go by European release dates. 1992 would be Huge with LTtp and Mario world.

The US has just flipped over to 1987 earlier. That would explain why 1987 has been stalling 1995 for like the past 2 hours. 1987 hasn't put up any serious attempt at cutting away at this lead, but I do feel pretty safe that 1995 isn't going to blow this one.

1995 is currently performing 3% better overall compared to the US. This might be one of those matches where the winner doesn't win the popular vote in the US.

No idea how '87 is losing. Every game showcased in that little slide show is ICONIC and as much as I love Chrono Trigger there is no way '95 should be winning.

I think 1995 is...probably safe now. It weathered the night vote just fine, although it's actually winning in the UK. It's winning by a decent margin in Canada, which is probably enough to counterbalance the fact that it's barely losing in the U.S.

1995 did way better overnight than I thought. At least I feel vindicated in my 1987 seeing 1995 supporters s*** their pants over how 'badly' it's doing here.

I hate how every weird performance has to be pinned to the picture. maybe 95 just sucks here. maybe not. who can say? I would certainly rather pin this to the games in the picture. we'll know when we see 95/01 since that will surely have better games.

96/00 is really bugging me. 96 might not be handicapped at all if we get Perfect Dark and Deus Ex.

96 got lucky. Possibly its four best games.

So if 1987 had been similarly shackled by forced diversity and gotten, say, Zelda 1/R-Type/Maniac Mansion/Some Master System Exclusive Nobody Cares About instead of 4 straight NES games, what do people think the percentage would be?

I doubt more than 60%, probably doesn't change much. People are smart, they know Metroid and Mega Man. I actually think 1987 needs pics even less because it is such an iconic year for starting these franchises.

Of course, you would be deliberately handicapping 1987 instead of bringing 1995 up so it's not a fair comparison. Even if 1995 had an optimal set it wouldn't improve its chances.

The question we should ask regarding match pics isn't "are these the strongest games" but "is this a fair cross section" and I think 1987 passes the latter, 1995 probably fails it but not by much.

It still has the original LoZ so I guess not a total collapse, but about 62%-38%?
