Anyway,
we're close to Round 2 with no word from SB about pictures. It seems
like he'll handle business for the entire next round as well - the main
question being whether he'll simply decide to reuse the R1 pics. Yoblazer http://i.imgur.com/gByqgPg.gif |

Man, neither match has moved since I last checked on it before going to work this morning. |
I'm in the top ten, which is cool, but for some reason I picked 2016 to win which is less cool |
hey
guys, I want your input on something. do you think those Zelda games -
Ocarina, Skyward, TP - look more or less the same in these pictures? I'm
kinda wondering if people can even tell that today's pic has Ocarina,
or that 2011's Zelda pic was actually Skyward Sword. xyzzy |
My faith in voters is shaken after yesterday, but I have to think they know approximately when each specific Zelda game came out |
Ghirahim
is clearly in the Skyward Sword picture. If you've played Skyward
Sword, you would know that's him. Similar thing with Twilight Princess
and the wolf in the picture. If you haven't played the games, you would
at least know the picture is from a Zelda game you haven't played even
if you don't know which one. Neither of them would get mistaken for OoT
or anything like that. OoT's picture is a lot more questionable, though.
I don't recognize the image and a voter only has 5 seconds to read the
small subtitle. OoT may be relying on the fact the people might just
know it came out in 1998. My bracket got smashed by DpObliVion. Congrats to DpObliVion for winning the BGE15 Guru Contest! |

yeah,
as a non-player they all kinda look the same. I don't think Skyward
benefited all that much but that pic ambiguity can't hurt, especially
when 06 sucked so bad. add the c and back away iphonesience |

transience posted... I left out Z2 and WW for a reason: those games look noticeably different. the other ones not so much Nah, the art's too different for most of them. I think the only one where this might be the case is people mixing up ALttP and LA. They came out in 1992 and 1993 and have very similar pre-OoT art and logo. So it is possible to manipulate LA art in order for people to think that it's ALttP. I can also see maybe people mixing up OoT and MM since they have identical art, but that's a much bigger stretch. |
If
we stick to official period correct art, yes, but look at the art they
actually used. If I just saw the art they're using for OoT without also
seeing the year, I'd assume it was for Twilight Princess, especially
since the logo is too small to read on my screen. They're definitely not
using the vintage art for that image. |
Do we know where the OoT image comes from? My bracket got smashed by DpObliVion. Congrats to DpObliVion for winning the BGE15 Guru Contest! |

Match XIX Round 1 2013 vs. 2003 Notable Releases Adjusted X-Stats (Year) 2013 Games Grand Theft Auto V 29.29% (2015) The Last of Us 27.36% (2015) BioShock Infinite 24.49% (2015) Fire Emblem: Awakening 22.89% (2015) Platforms Playstation 4 Xbox One 2003 Games Final Fantasy X-2 The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker 37.54% (2015) Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 27.59% (2015) Disgaea: Hour of Darkness 18.96% (2010) Platforms N-Gage Analysis During the pre-contest this entire four-pack got a lot of debate though Im not too sure if either 2013 or 2015 can cause an upset. 2013 is filled with a bunch of mid-tier games and on any other site I would argue it has a pretty nice set of games, but this is GameFAQs and from the 2015 contest these games did okay, but were nothing special. While I have 2003 winning this four-pack I do feel a bit nervous about its strength. The Wind Waker is clearly the strongest game between the two years while Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic brings some depth, but after that there isnt much else. Im not sure how I feel about Final Fantasy X-2 on one hand its nice to have a Final Fantasy games on your side, but on the other it wasnt a very popular one. I expect 2013 to put up a respectable performance, but I dont see it threatening 2003. Unlike 2006 the picture order is a bit more favourable for 2003 with Final Fantasy and Zelda in the first two slots and its weakest game in the last slot. charmander6000s Bracket: 2003 > 2013 charmander6000s Prediction: 2003 wins, 59.24% - 40.76% Best Year in Gaming - Today's Winners: 1998 and 1992 Current Bracket Score: 15/16 |
Match XX Round 1 2015 vs. 2005 Notable Releases Adjusted X-Stats (Year) 2015 Games The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt 27.56% (2015) Rocket League Undertale 18.52% (2015) Fallout 4 Platforms None 2005 Games God of War 33.29% (2010) Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney 23.32% (2015) Resident Evil 4 33.17% (2015) Shadow of the Colossus 30.17% (2015) Platforms Playstation Portable Xbox 360 Analysis Relatively speaking 2005 didnt perform too well against 1978. If we kept the results of the 70s vote-in constant the year is expected to get 56.79% against 2009. Of course using the results of a multi-way poll may not be the wisest choice. If there was an underperformance, one reason for it could be due to 2005s strongest games being placed third and fourth in the picture rotation. If true 2005 could be in for another bumpy match as their opponent begins with The Witcher 3 against their God of War, whom is overrated in the 2010 x-stats and is likely weaker today relative to back then. Conversely Rocket League as the second game probably helps 2005. While we dont know its strength it does push Undertale and Fallout 4 into direct matches against Resident Evil 4 and Shadow of the Colossus provided people actually wait to see all of the pictures. Actually scratch what I said in the previous write-up. Im getting a feeling that this could be a repeat of 2011/2006. Undertale is likely stronger than what its x-stat value says while I expect Fallout 4 to have some strength. Neither game would defeat Resident Evil 4 or Shadow of the Colossus, but if a significant number of people are no longer watching the picture it may not reverse the beating The Witcher 3 will give to God of War. charmander6000s Bracket: 2005 > 2015 charmander6000s Prediction: 2005 wins, 55.77% - 44.23% Best Year in Gaming - Today's Winners: 1998 and 1992 Current Bracket Score: 15/16 |
I
think you're underestimating Rocket League, too. Maybe not because it's
Gamefaqs, but Rocket League is kind of indie the way Half Life 2 was
indie, and if not quite as popular, still huge for a non-shooter with
pretensions to esports. |
Just
how strong is X-2 anyways? I feel like people don't really talk about
the game very much so I have no idea how opinions on it might have
changed over the years. It's not like FF13 where I still see people talk
about how they dislike it. My bracket got smashed by DpObliVion. Congrats to DpObliVion for winning the BGE15 Guru Contest! |
I think FFX-2 would be very weak. Definitely worse than FF13 and that game is also weak. Black Turtle did a pretty good job. |

would probably do fairly well in Europe due to The Witcher 3 (much
stronger there vs. the US/Canada). That's not even considering a
possible rally. Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as DpObliVion, Guru Champ! |
I guess we can use 2006 as a comparison point 5 minutes: 2006 with 56.55% 5 minutes: 2005 with 59.14% also, we aren't dealing with a pic situation here. early voters have a knowledge edge on people who vote later in the match and so pictures don't mean as much. maybe 2005 is okay? xyzzy |
How come The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds isn't on the 2013 list? |
It
would very interesting if 2005 actually dropped this match. Maybe

While
I hope there's no UT rallying, 2015 really should get this. Fallout 4,
MGSV, Witcher 3, even Undertale itself. For me at least it's a pretty
top tier year. -J2K |
2005 holds steady, but 2003 drops a lot more. |
