Welp, here's to hoping that people remember 2004 with the same fondness that we did a decade ago (at that time, it was almost at that 2001-tier). If not, then this is a bad showing from 1994.

i predicted 67% here and i never even thought about taking 91 over 94

maybe i'm just overestimating 2004
it's so hard to say with these matches, so.. what are people expecting from 91/02?

Would expect to see 2004 get in the 80% range on 1988. This is hardly a bad showing from 1994.

70%+

But I think 1991 can take down 1994 and 2004 would beat 2002, so yeah.

The thing with 2004 is that it was a monster year at the time. How has it held up over the past 13 years? I dunno, but I'm pretty damn confident that WoW, Halo 2, and Half-Life 2 - three pillars for that year - have fallen off a cliff. The year's strongest game is in the Mario RPG range at best, which doesn't bode well as far as anchors go. It has incredible depth - certainly rivaling any year in the bracket - but how much strength does that depth add when the games themselves aren't that strong?

Oh well, we'll find out in a week. I'm on the 1994 train AND I AIN'T GETTIN OFF, BABY.
Interesting to see 2011 make a match of it. I didn't think Zelda fanboys cared much for Skyward Sword.

Then again, most people seemed tepid for TP as well.

I really should get around to those games at some point.

Halo and WOW, sure - though I'd say they were never that strong here - but Half-Life 2 has remained legit. maybe not as legit as in 09, but that game is still the high point of FPS campaigns a decade later.

We never had a really good read on Super Metroid in the past, but I think the rise of speedrunning popularity definitely helped it out in that regard. Super Metroid is in the top 3 speedrunning games, with Mario 64 and OoT right behind it.

Eh, I'm not totally convinced those two are joined at the hip like that. I think HL2 has dropped off a bit as people have become disillusioned with the idea that HL3 is probably never happening.

I realize I framed the question as has Metroid Prime risen, or HL2 fallen, when it reality it's probably a mix of both.

But BGE3 happened when a lot of people were making Half-Life 3 confirmed jokes.
