P5 will. P4's biggest issue was coming out on a dead platform. P5 is on the most popular platform in its prime.

hey man I love my Vita too

sadly it never gained traction with most people
I thought P4 getting a Vita port was a dumb idea at the time but it turned out amazingly for them. Gave the owners of a dead system something to latch onto to help justify their purchase. The Vita is still known as the "Persona 4 Golden" machine to a lot of people and it helped spread the series name a lot.
Black Turtle did a pretty good job.
yeah that did help a lot. it might be the best selling game on the platform.

It's pretty much the only reason I bought a Vita, and the only physical game I own for it.
Well, that and Wake-Up Club, of course.
LeonhartFour 5/6/2017 3:59:44 PM#410
Yeah, Golden at least gave people a reason to buy a Vita. Sounds strange to say that Persona was a system seller, but in this case, it was!

P4 also got a lot of popularity from stuff like GiantBomb's Endurance Run. Has Atlus eased up on that whole "no streaming P5 past a certain point in the game" stuff? That honestly might hurt P5 a bit in the long run if they haven't.
they moved the date to later in the year. I'm guessing that relaxes as the game gets a little older. it's dumb though.

Also changed to 00>90 at the last minute which I'm now feeling good about

I've said this before but the only thing I don't feel good about is having a 1.06mill votal count for the tiebreaker or something.....it's not getting there. I honestly think I could have a perfect bracket tho

you'd still have one up on me!

well technically I finished in a prize money position in 2007, the last time Cloud > Link turned out to be a better pick
I'm still mad that I somehow didn't know about the FF7 favorite game poll and put a horrendous tiebreaker that lost me money and the guru

Only time I ever won money was Games 2008. By far my best contest ever. I credit my success to fanboy picking Tales of Symphonia to advance in that one match.

Also, I think the top ten list was the only one I ever made where I wasn't really active on the board at the time, and I won prize money! I think all I did was put the top ten from the Games Contest X-Stats except for dropping Wind Waker and StarCraft, replacing them with FFX and MGS1.
HaRRicH 5/6/2017 5:29:10 PM#427
The first time I won prize money was 2007. I absolutely credit predicting the first loss of the Noble Nine -- Vincent > Crono -- for that $50 to buy Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

There's not been a second time yet, but it's coming...!

vote stuffing!

technically yeah

There was a match in that contest (Vincent/Zelda round 1) where I had forgotten if I had voted yet, so I just decided to cast a vote to see if I had. Unfortunately, I also forgot that I was logged in to an alt at the time and so it accepted the vote. I remember being nervous about it when it happened, and I guess I should've contacted Allen about it right away so he could remove the vote or something, but I didn't expect to be in contention for prizes at the time!

Lopen's situation was something about a common IP address with multiple voters that made it look like he was voting multiple times, I think.

I have that fear too sometimes if I accidentally voted twice...never confident I have and I guess I have one contest backing me up on that, but it seems like a real easy mistake to make if you get logged out or bounce between devices.

Analysis

This was another match which was debated pre-contest. I feel the match will give us a better insight on to how much depth matters. Unlike 1985 1990 is not reliant on a single game and Super Mario Bros. 3 is clearly stronger than Majora’s Mask though I’d expect Majora’s Mask to easily break 40% in a one on one match.

1990 will also have Final Fantasy in its corner though against 2000 that may not be as helpful given the year has Final Fantasy IX on its side. Pre-contest I expected 1990 to be very volatile in terms of strength mostly due to Final Fantasy. In its two games contests it has put up decent numbers against Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario World, but when it went up against Final Fantasy IV the game folded quite badly. I feel Final Fantasy will hold up better against IX, but there is no question that a large portion of its strength is from name recognition.

If the match was between those four games 1990 may have had a chance here though I would still take 2000 to win. 1990’s depth is pretty bad when you look at its two other games and while 2000 got screwed with no Diablo II or Pokemon Gold/Silver I’d still take Perfect Dark and Deus Ex over Wing Commander and River City Ransom.

Analysis

1996 is an interesting year. In a vacuum Super Mario 64 and Super Mario RPG is one of the strongest one-two punch in the bracket, but they have a huge overlap in fan bases. I do feel there will be some separation given they were on two different consoles and Super Mario RPG will bring in some Square fans, but at the same time I don’t see the year acting like it has two top 25 games in it. Another downside to the year is its lack of depth, after Resident Evil there isn’t anything significant.

With that said 1996 shouldn’t have any issue winning this match. 1989 failed to break 70% against 1983 whom was easily defeated by 1981 in the vote-ins. The lack of Mega Man 2 also does not help the year with only Tetris having any notable strength.

There is the possibility of Tetris falling to SFF, but I feel Super Mario 64 and RPG are too new for it to occur significantly. Tetris did hold up well against Pokemon RBYG in 2015 despite both games coming from the same system. Regardless this should be quite the beating by one of the strongest years in the bracket.

Bruh iono if Deus Ex or Perfect Dark is getting 40% on SMRPG anytime soon. I just don't know.

Though perhaps you mean because having FFIX and CC together is redundant when it could pull in fanbases from different genres....well then perhaps you're right.

A console square RPG wouldn't lose to some PC game in a head to head, so I will consider CC fourth.
