Nah, getting rid of Super Street Fighter II Turbo in favor of MK2 (which might have been my suggestion, actually? Don't remember) was a good one.

Getting rid of Golden Sun for Fire Emblem in a match with Melee and Wind Waker was by far the dumbest.

Also I feel like 1990/2000 could be anywhere between 80% for either side. This contest is weird.

So tomorrow's 2000 vs 1990 should be the first debatable match of this contest. I chose 2000 and am pretty confident about it. If 1990 wins it will be Super Mario Bros. 3 alone carrying all the weight and proving that individual games matter more than the entire roster. 1995 or 1997 will be a sure bet finalist then.

2000 has it easy. 1990 might as well only be SMB3 and Final Fantasy, everything else is too weak. Considering FFIX > FF1, SMB3 has got to carry the year. Is it stronger than the combined weight of Majora's Mask and Pokemon Gold/Silver? Plus, while Deus Ex, Diablo II, and Perfect Dark aren't worldbeaters, they still have some strength.

I think 1994/2004 will be our first "casual killer". Board 8 knows FFVI and Super Metroid carry the year, but the rest of the site will see all the big western games and predict accordingly. Of course, with the small vote totals, that might make the difference.

I think MM beats SMB3 cleanly. FFI seems like a bottom tier FF that would get wrecked by every FF game from FFVI and beyond.

Yeah I wanted to change when I saw the picture structure but didn't make it in time. Oh well. It's only one point.

I still think adding SF4 and watching it struggle for third against Persona 4 made that match a lot more interesting than watching TWEWY get fodderized.

But yeah, Fire Emblem over Golden Sun and replacing SSB over other games was dumb.

And this was back before Persona became a bigger presence in general. Plus I feel the entire reason Bacon did the Add/Remove thing to begin with was solely to sneak SF4 into the bracket since it was released in a weird time.

Persona hadn't maxed out its Popularity stat yet.

Mortal Kombat II was the best choice everything else was either lateral (Deus Ex, Street Fighter IV) or worse (Fire Emblem, SoulCalibur)

FFT is the only reason i voted for 1997, imo 1998 is a better year for gaming and i hope it makes it far.

I know we have a tendency to overrate Persona games, and P3 and P4 have basically disappointed at every turn, but I think Persona 5's finally big enough that it deserves to be in that top games of the decade list. If it ends up getting a port like P3 and P4 did, it'll probably be a Switch port, which would guarantee pretty high strength, too. Even without that though, I think it'd be reasonably strong.

while it'll be a step up I still wouldn't take it over something like God of War, Assassin's Creed II or even Mass Effect 3

ACII is apparently pure fodder, though. 21% on FFVI. Persona 4 can take that easily.

Galaxy 2 I think could be a top 8 game in a decades contest depending on bracket

I'd take P5, with time, over most of those.

Galaxy 2 lost to Mass Effect 1 and ME2 kinda bombed.

Persona 5 should be strong but that's definitely one I'd rather wait and see six-twelve months from now before I make a judgment call on its strength.

Meanwhile I already have no problem saying BotW > Skyrim in a GotD2 finals.

Potential future releases that could do well:

Kingdom Hearts 3
Super Mario Odyssey
Final Fantasy XVI?
Smash 5 - or, Smash 4 has the potential to get way stronger if it gets a Switch port. I think Mario Kart 8 has some potential from that too.
Elder Scrolls 6
Pokemon Sun/Moon/Stars if they're all counted together

Any other possible games people can think of?

Oh yeah if Stars actually is a Switch release that should be pretty strong.

FF7 Remake if that counts and is actually a success

I'll always be reluctant to trust a non-FF RPG to be a powerhouse.

It's more over than you think. There's only 2.5 more years, so most of the rest of the games coming out this decade have already been announced.

DKC2 was probably the biggest waste however. Originally Fallout was in its place, but it got replaced after the board requested that the superior DKC2 be allowed in, believing it was more deserving than its prequel which had made it in a different division. Well, it got SFFd and LPFd to Hell, and despite people laughing at it, I really would like to see DKC2 return in a more advantageous position, than the crappy one it got here

To Yesmar's credit, DKC2 has since won by surprise against a Nintendo fourpack of Xenoblade, FE:A, and SMM. It's still not strong, per say, but good call anyway.
