what's the most likely four games that 01 will get?

Halo, FFX, Melee, GTA3

it's gotta be these, right? maybe something like PSO or SA2 if SB wants to get the GC represented (and dropping probably FFX given how enormous GTA3 was?) I don't think we'll ever see 2001 without Halo.

Those 4 look right to me. I could see GSC replacing Melee though

Isnt GSC 2000?

It is.

Seeing some of these games in 2008/2009 makes me a little sad that the late 00's aren't as strong as they should be. And wow, I never considred 2001 a threat until seeing that picture. What a stellar year. I think 1997 might be in trouble.

2008 is a personal top 5 year of mine for many reasons

but yeah its unfortunate it'll lose to the behemoth that is 2001 (though to be fair that WAS an amazing year too)

System means nothing without games, and Zelda/MM/CV/Metroid are all better games than SMB. What this match definitely proves, is that game strength and variety are important to having a strong year.

Better, it's still probably the #2 game from that year (either that or Dark Souls). No year wants to go into this with ZERO Nintendo representation in its match pic.

EDIT: Sorry, you're asking about its effect on 2006, not 2011. In that case - worse.

If 2011 gets Skyrim, Zelda, and Souls in its rotation, I probably consider it the favorite.

this board is full of Nintendo kids, but most of them are Zelda fanboys/girls so it's likely just that there's just a bigger Zelda fanbase on here than a Mario fanbase. (especially since a new Zelda game just came out)

Well my line of thinking is that Twilight Princess would SFF Skyward Sword so hard that something like Batman: Arkham CIty or Portal 2 would bring in more votes.

Well LFF will be there, but I think TP will hurt SS so badly that LFF will be a small factor.

For example in 2008 Mario did better against Mega Man X with Luigi in the poll relative to Zelda because he was able to SFF Luigi more.

Also I think Oblivion will hold better against Skyrim than SS against TP.

farewell my sweet leaderboard appearance

I guess I should've made an alt bracket with the debated matches reversed to provide for this contingency but alas
After doing some work comparing vote totals from Day 1 and Day 2, I've concluded the Day 2 match picture issues actually hurt our vote totals in those matches. For those unaware, it appeared that an extremely high percentage of people outside the US/Canada/Mexico couldn't see the Day 2 match pictures for at least the first 12 hours of the matches.

Between both matches combined, here were the hourly Day 1 and Day 2 vote totals:

Time | Day 1 | Day 2
1:00 | 3385 | 2865
2:00 | 2007 | 1650
3:00 | 1471 | 1179
4:00 | 1152 | 773
5:00 | 980 | 739
6:00 | 1042 | 795
7:00 | 1124 | 1071
8:00 | 1395 | 1255
9:00 | 1585 | 1487
10:00 | 1605 | 1458
11:00 | 1546 | 1451
12:00 | 1479 | 1337
13:00 | 1464 | 1355
14:00 | 1242 | 1197
15:00 | 1164 | 1409
16:00 | 1107 | 1242
17:00 | 1069 | 1157
18:00 | 1137 | 1158
19:00 | 1108 | 1197
20:00 | 992 | 1122
21:00 | 953 | 920
22:00 | 839 | 943
23:00 | 837 | 846
24:00 | 755 | 845

The Day 1 matches had a consistent advantage over the Day 2 matches for the first 14 hours of their respective days. The match picture issues for the Day 2 matches appeared to get fixed sometime around 2:00 PM and we see a bump in vote totals in the 2:00-3:00 PM hour of Day 2. The final 10 hours of Day 2 received 878 more votes than the final 10 hours of Day 1.

Without any match picture issues, the combined vote totals for both Day 2 matches should have been 32047 votes, but they actually combined for 29451 votes. This was a net loss of 2596 votes, or about 1298 votes per match.
