cyko posted... I wonder if we will see any kind of voting trends with this contest. Will the newer years perform better in the mornings and "after school"? This was brought up before and my guess is that the most interesting trends will involve the matches with a 20+ year difference between the 2 entrants in a match. The 20+ year difference would apply to the following matches - 1979/2009, 1981/2006, 1978/2005, and 1992/2016 Other matches that could potentially have noticeable trends are 1995/1986, 2000/1990, 1996/1989, and 2004/1994. In general, trends should be rather boring for the most part and mostly non-existent for a majority of the matches. I thought we saw this last contest where it doesn't really matter that much anymore because of smart phones + a lot of this site's userbase not being in school anymore anyways RIP in Pieces GamerJM, 2007-2015. You will be missed. #UnPermabanJim |
That's
why I put "after school" in quotes. I feel like trends still often
shifted around that 3:00 - 5:00 PM Eastern time period. Yay - DpObliVion is the guru champion of awesomeness. |

Oh
god. If this is the way the pics work, then whatever the strongest
game in a given year is (ie. the first pic) us going to be a lot more
important than I thought. Very much regret picking against 1997 and
maybe 1995 already. I guess DpObliVion gets to be in my sig now. His knowledge of video game popularity contests far surpasses my own. (edited 5/1/2017 9:47:17 PM)report |
Thanks for the updates to the Poll Tracker. My bracket got smashed by DpObliVion. Congrats to DpObliVion for winning the BGE15 Guru Contest! |

Very much regret picking against 1997 and maybe 1995 already. Game in the first pic is not necessarily the strongest one. Mario Bros. is likely a lot stronger than Dragon's Lair. Adventure probably isn't the strongest of the four 1979 games either. 1989 got lucky that it got Tetris in the first game slot. My bracket got smashed by DpObliVion. Congrats to DpObliVion for winning the BGE15 Guru Contest! |
wow i didn't even realize the contest started today. my bracket is just my first initial thoughts and going to sleep. "i am pretty sure 3-year old children would generate more thoughtful discussion than board 8 on any topic of sexism" - Naye745 |
If
they're going in the same order as in the "notable games" thing next to
the years in the bracket, I think the first game will be the strongest
in the majority of cases at least. (and in particular it would be the
case for the two years I mentioned, which is probably the ones that
would stand to benefit most from this other than maybe 2015) I guess DpObliVion gets to be in my sig now. His knowledge of video game popularity contests far surpasses my own. |

it
kinda feels like Allen cares about this contest less than we do but he

Very much regret picking against 1997 and maybe 1995 already. Yeah, this whole contest hinged on how these matches would be presented. A good amount of people aren't going to wait and see all the games represented, so whatever comes first is going to carry a lot of weight. This sentence has five words. This sentence has eight words. The
2 matches today had vote totals of 1715 and 1673 at the end of the
first hour. Based on this, we're looking at roughly 17000 votes for
both matches today, which would be a 16% boost in vote totals compared
to the 2 Vote-In polls (which averaged 14703 votes). Once we get to Round 1, we'll start getting to the years that will be much better at drawing in votes. Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as DpObliVion, Guru Champ! |

think I disqualified my official bracket after getting my roommate to

anyone else having this issue on internet explorer the match pics aren't changing, it's scrolling but it's the same pics I'm not having this problem on chrome Joe Bulo says hi |
So
far, the trends in these 2 matches are somewhat interesting. Despite
only a 6 year difference in the 1983/1989 match, 1983 appears to be
showing a clear night vote and morning vote advantage over 1989. In the 1979/2009 match, one would expect the older year to have the night vote and morning vote advantage since those 2 time periods have the oldest voters on average based on past age polls. Instead, 2009 appears to be winning the night vote and morning vote. This casts doubt into how people are voting in this contest. The 2009 match picture features Uncharted 2, Street Fighter IV, and Batman: Arkham Asylum, 3 games which seem to have at least average or above average night votes and morning votes. Well
darn. I forgot to change my tiebreaker number of total votes. I put in
too low a number. Thought would've been able to change it while the

someone nicely ask SBAllen to change the picture format. Or at least,

Ten
years ago, L-Block/Link/Cloud/Snake broke 10,000 votes in thirty
minutes. That contest began with Yoshi/Knuckles/Rikku/Vaan, which broke
10,000 votes in forty minutes. Even one of its matches as
narrow-focused as Fox/Wario/Captain Falcon/Banjo broke 10,000 votes in
fifty-five minutes. Today, we break 10,000 votes twelve hours and fifty minutes into these matches, with two matches at once regarding something as broad as years. Still excited, but damn we've shrunk. Posted using GameFlux Get it now for Android from Google Play! |
The Internet became bigger. Why do we exist? What happens when we stop existing? What is Life? |
"Something
As Broad As Years" is a negative, not a bonus. Simpler formats get more
votes and this is a very complicated format. You could put
Link/Cloud/Snake/Mario in a poll and it gets less votes than Link/Cloud.
We've seen this happen back to back before. Black Turtle did a pretty good job. |
All
in agreement for a faster rotating picture at least, given after seeing
how it is going and feeling a lot better I went with the 1995 upset to
the finals, needs to be better representation of the games in the year,
just a pity the picture format was never fully defined before lockdown,
quite a lot of bracket placement was gambling on how the representation
of the match pic turned out to be. Blop |
Rotating pictures would be nice. Putting a small text list of notable games under the pictures would be 10x better. Black Turtle did a pretty good job. |
