It would be really nice for Link to win again. I don't think he's won a real contest since 2010 (rivalries was a pretty lame and forgettable thing). 7 years......if he doesn't win this year, there will be a bigger gap between the present and Link's last win than between Link's last win and his first win.

Congratulations to DP Oblivion in the Guru Contest!
4-4-2-1-1-1-1 is best IMO

Round 4 and beyond should be 1 a day
Round 2 can be boring, so get through that quickly
That leaves 2 a day for Round 3 since 1 or 4 is weird.

this is the first time in two decades that Link is the legit coolest character in gaming again.

What do you mean? Gamefaqs contests show Link has been the coolest character in gaming at least until 2010, and the 2nd coolest character until 2013!
Inb4 GameFAQs is so niche that BotW doesn't actually change Link's popularity (people here are already Zelda fanboys), and he either wins because of a rally or loses to another rally.

I can see him being arguably easier to rally for after BotW. It's a much, much bigger release than Skyward Sword was. Definitely his biggest game in a decade.
So we're getting a re-run of the Super Metroid playrate poll. Today's options are exactly identical to this poll from 3 years ago:

Still haven't beaten Super Metroid yet. I've played it though.

I've beaten Fusion, Prime 1, and Zero Mission. That's it.

Congrats to the last man standing in Guru, DpObliVion
I beat Metroid Prime 1 and 2.

Got to the final boss of 3 but then I had to move out of my parents' house and I didn't bring my Wii.

I don't like the 2D Metroids. They feel too desolated for my tastes

I've beat them all besides Other M and spin-offs like Hunters, FF, and Pinball.

Solid series.

Super Metroid finished with a playrate of 64.04% in yesterday's poll, an increase of almost 5% from the previous poll from 3 years earlier. The Board 8 wiki page for playrate has been updated with this new result:

http://board8.wikia.com/wiki/Have_You_Played

Today's poll is an ownership poll for Castlevania: SOTN. However, there are clearly options for playing or not playing it, so I guess I could use this poll as a playrate poll. This poll is nearly identical to a poll from 5 years ago, besides the slightly altered poll question.

No doubt, I just mean they won't get blown out as bad, and could even stand up to early 90s.

02-06 might have some sleepers in it though. 2005 the one with re4 and mgs3? Twilight Princess and Kingdom Hearts II are also pretty heavy hitters sharing a year.
(edited 3/20/2017 10:45:24 AM)report
I'm thinking maybe 1994 for strongest pre-1998 year. Final Fantasy VI isn't extremely high in strength for being the strongest game of its year but Super Metroid is definitely the strongest 2nd and Mega Man X is definitely the strongest 3rd (for said pre-1998 period). Donkey Kong Country, Sonic 3, and Sonic & Knuckles make for some good nostalgic and high-name recognition stuff to round it out.

MGS3 is 2004. 2005 is carried VERY heavily by RE4 and will probably get slaughtered without any big Nintendo games/RPGs.

2006 might be the star of that period since it has a popular Zelda, KHII, and FFXII.

I think FFIV is the 2nd strongest game of 1991, behind Super Mario World. Its strongest competition there is Sonic 1 and Street Fighter II.

I'm fine with this being the only contest this year, but I wish we got another one in 2018.

Specially since there will probably be a gotd in 2020 so we shoild have contests in two consecutive years one way or another.

I think Dp's Guru pick should carry over to the next contest after this one. However, the Guru winner for this contest should be rewarded with a Guru pick for the next contest. As a result of this, our next contest after this upcoming contest will have Guru picks from 2 different users.

Won't really be able to tell since Melee came out in 2001 and will boost that year a lot on its own.
