I'm
definitely tracking poll updates for today's poll. I already tracked
poll updates for the previous 3 times we had this poll. Vote totals are also quite high for this poll. Too early to tell at this point if it has a chance to break 20000 votes. At least this poll's going better than the last time we had Zelda and Mass Effect reps. And NieR has third, which is neat. Not_Wylvane (edited 2/28/2017 4:56:27 PM)report |

https://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/6624- I'm surprised the Wii U version is performing very well in this poll so far. The Switch version is only barely putting up 60% on the Wii U version right now. What's the record for highest Day 1 ownership of a console? https://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/2575-got-wii That has the Wii at 23.74%. Currently we have 20.26% planning to buy the Switch version of BotW on Day 1. I imagine they are likely buying a Switch as well. Does the Switch have a chance at taking the record? Is there a chance we end up with fewer people buying a Switch then buying BotW on the Switch? My bracket got smashed by DpObliVion. Congrats to DpObliVion for winning the BGE15 Guru Contest! |
Correct,
the Wii holds the record for highest launch day ownership on GameFAQs.
The Switch is currently a strong competitor to break this record.
Later today, I'll put up a prediction topic for the Switch's launch day
ownership. Prior to release, the PS4 was touted as a potential competitor to break the Wii's launch day ownership as it had strong hype coming out of E3 2013 when Sony laid the hammer on Microsoft and confirmed there will be no "Always-On DRM" or blocking used games from being playable. But a few months later, a couple of polls suggested the PS4's hype died off hard. Ultimately, the PS4 bombed hard out of the gate with only 8.48% launch day ownership. can Breath of The Wild become even more popular than Ocarina of Time? some people are already calling it game of the year/decade/century. ... |
abdou posted... can Breath of The Wild become even more popular than Ocarina of Time? I hope so. I love Ocarina but some competition would be great. The issue Breath will have is no one cares about either system it's on, and this site is stuck in 1999. There are some great games from the modern era that should be much stronger than they actually are. abdou posted... can Breath of The Wild become even more popular than Ocarina of Time? During the batch of Nintendo related polls we had last year where Ulti recruited the board to come up with some fun polls to submit to Allen, we discussed the effect that nostalgia has on the strength of a game. For older games (before 2000), a decent part of a game's strength comes from nostalgia. Newer games don't have nostalgia working in their favor, so there is only a finite limit on how strong those games can be, no matter how good the games are. Breath of the Wild will probably be quite strong for a game released in the 2010 decade, but I see its maximum strength being slightly above Skyrim at the very most. UltimaterializerX posted... There are some great games from the modern era that should be much stronger than they actually are. Yeah, I'm aware Breath of the Wild is at a disadvantage for the systems it's on, but this would have been even worse if it was never released on Switch and remained Wii U exclusive. However, if the game really is a GOAT contender like the reviews are making it out to be, the game should be able to transcend these barriers and end up with a fairly high playrate on this site regardless of the fact a decent part of the site doesn't care about either system. Thankfully it's available on the Switch and a lot of people who say they aren't getting a Switch right now will probably end up changing their mind much later in the future when the game library is much better. If
GameFAQs was constantly bringing in younger users on a regular basis,
some of the most popular newer games might actually benefit from
nostalgia. This isn't the case, as seen with the continuous decline in
the under 18 age group over the past few years in the age polls. I don't have any doubts about younger users visiting GameFAQs in large numbers, it's just the fact that almost all of them are bypassing the homepage because they arrived on GameFAQs through a Google search result. Because of this, the younger users are extremely under represented in the polls, so the age polls are only useful for showing the age demographics of our long time users. We would need a large increase in the number of younger users on the site for Breath of the Wild to have the strength of a Top 10 game on the site, assuming it gets a boost in strength from the nostalgia factor from the people were exposed to it at a young age. For
today's Switch poll, I am going to treat the first 2 options towards
the Switch's ownership even though only the first option explicitly
states that you currently have the Switch right now. If I only used the
first option, the Switch actually has a lower launch day ownership (as
of right now) than the Wii U and that wouldn't make sense given the
evidence provided by some of the previous Switch related polls. Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as DpObliVion, Guru Champ! |
The
Switch finished with a launch day ownership of 19.54%. Although it was
fairly impressive, it still falls about 4% short of breaking the Wii's
launch day ownership. Earlier polls did a good job predicting the
launch day ownership. I suppose having the Switch follow up on the
heels of the extremely disappointing Wii U unfairly hurt its chances of
breaking the record. Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as DpObliVion, Guru Champ! |
After
~20 hours playing it I'm going to say Breath of the Wild will win the
next Games contest and will defeat any rally in its path. Not_Wylvane |

Breath
is never going to reach the audience Ocarina did because Nintendo has
made its consoles irrelevant to the greater gaming population and even
old-timey gamefaqs people. |
Breath of the Wild is a recent game, I have a hard time believing it could be even a top 10. As for defeating rallies, we all know how this would end (assuming it's a mega rally, I'm not talking about 4chan voting L-block) , and the votals would probably be even lower than last contest so. |
BotW
can probably be rallied somewhat easily itself. Link was quite
effectively rallied on the Skyward Sword page of Facebook in 2013. It's
not Draven levels, but considering BotW should be relatively strong on
its own, a good rally would make it tough to overcome. No matter your determination, you will never be good enough to be both the Last Man Standing and the top Guru in 2015 like DpOblivion! |
Averia posted... Breath of the Wild is a recent game, I have a hard time believing it could be even a top 10. It's going to take time for the game to reach its maximum strength since the playrate for the game started out at 30.19% on the day after the Switch was released. Although that includes the Wii U version. It's assumed that anyone who hasn't already gotten the game yet will almost surely buy it on the Switch since most of the Wii U owners would likely have gotten the game by now. As the Switch's ownership rises over the next several months (and into 2018), so will the playrate for Breath of the Wild. The ownership/playrate poll for the game shows that it will definitely surpass the 50% playrate mark someday. By the time we have a GotD for the 2010 decade, the game will be in a very good position to have a chance of winning that contest as the game will be around 3 years old when that contest happens. A
thing Undertale had going for it was underdog status, which really got
the bandwagon going. I really don't think anything Zelda would ever be
able to do that when it's surely already a favorite going in. Don't know
how large Zelda forums are, but I doubt they're LoL size too. No matter your determination, you will never be good enough to be both the Last Man Standing and the top Guru in 2015 like DpOblivion! |
Link was able to rally and give Draven a fight, so I don't think that's a concern for Breath of the Wild. "The people who play Final Fantasy 7 actually have lives and dont NEED polls" ~MajinUltima Now owned by DpOblivion. |
Yeah,
but Link was also able to get almost everyone on the site supporting
him. The LoL players were in large numers a******* so it was easy to get
people to support anyone Draven went against. Undertale had the thing
going for it that everyone kept seeing it as an underdog and because the
first people ro rally were nice passionate fans, people were also good
at ignoring the fact that late Undertale supporters were a******* too.
The LoL fanbase was a tad too large, but it was easy to get outsiders on
board with a Link rally. Facing something like Undertale, it's probably
tough to rally for anything Zelda. No matter your determination, you will never be good enough to be both the Last Man Standing and the top Guru in 2015 like DpOblivion! |
