No Dark Souls III or FFXV in the Xbox One poll. I figured FFXV probably didn't have much of a chance to show up in the Xbox One poll, but I was surprised that Dark Souls III was excluded from this poll. This really limits the potential of Dark Souls III winning one of these system GotY polls, since it only has the PC poll remaining.

The Xbox One poll is a prime candidate to finish with under 10000 votes, due to the abysmal ownership of the Xbox One. The Mobile poll should also get less than 10000 votes.


137 votes at the freeze for today's poll. For reference, the awful "Review of the Year" poll we had during the 2012 GotY polls had 150 votes at the freeze and finished just barely above 10000 votes.

Dark Souls III and Final Fantasy XV are excluded from the Xbox One poll essentially handing Overwatch a win. If Dark Souls III is excluded from the PC poll as well, it may get screwed out of making the overall GotY poll.

I guess I spoke too soon. DOOM is currently leading over Overwatch. If DOOM holds on and Dark Souls III should up on the PC poll, Overwatch might get eliminated. I initially thought that PC Overwatch would be strongest but that might not be true on GameFAQs. Contrary to probably everywhere else, it's the PS4 Overwatch community that is most active on GameFAQs. PC Overwatch may not be much stronger than PS4 Overwatch and PC Dark Souls III probably isn't weak enough to change the result.

I think it's kind of stupid that multiplatform title appear in polls more than once but I don't have a solution for that

In 2012 GameFAQs awarded spots to the final poll by genres.

Of course, we would have seen FFXV vs. Pokemon S&M before the final.

Well, DOOM is an FPS and is now outright winning the poll. But so is Overwatch, so we're guaranteed to get an FPS game from this poll advancing to the overall GotY poll.

The thing with Call of Duty imploding on GameFAQs (sometime after MW2) is that it has ultimately hurt the entire multiplayer online shooter genre, so when there's a new game that is a revolutionary take on the genre, it can't seem to get over the hump on this site due to Call of Duty permanently damaging the genre. Overwatch had potential to break through on GameFAQs and might not even reach the overall GotY poll. The PC poll is the last hope for Overwatch if it somehow loses to DOOM in this poll.

Doom's my personal GOTY, so yay.

Every game on this list is either a shooter, or has guns available as weapon choices, other than Forza. It explains concisely why I don't own an Xbone.

Most games fall into either one of those categories though.

Shooty games are cool, it's just that they're usually more cool on a PC.

In any case, at least we don't have to worry about Pokken Tournament in the overall GotY poll holding Pokemon Sun/Moon back. We would still have another Nintendo game in the overall GotY poll with Sun/Moon, but at least it's a non-Pokemon game which wouldn't hurt Sun/Moon with SFF or LFF.

I'd argue that Twilight Princess would hurt S&M more than Pokken.

Pokken and Go would be lucky to score more than a couple of percentage points with S&M in the poll. Twilight Princess on the other hand won't collapse that badly.

The Wii U poll is faring better than the Xbox One poll in vote totals so far. With 1017 votes at the end of the first hour, this poll looks to finish between 9500 and 11000 votes. It's also a possible candidate to finish under 10000 votes, but that's much less likely compared to my first impression of the early vote totals of the Xbox One poll.

Yesterday's poll just barely clears the 10000 vote total mark.

Dark Souls III is losing to DOOM in this poll as well, so it's a safe bet it wouldn't have had a chance in the Xbox One poll if it was included in that poll.

At the time I first posted that, Dark Souls III was currently losing to DOOM earlier, but now tied with DOOM at the freeze. Either way, if Dark Souls III is struggling to beat DOOM in the PC poll, it wasn't going to stand a chance in the Xbox One poll. FPS games tend to have the advantage in the Xbox One poll over non-FPS games.

I don't think that's a safe bet at all. Dark Souls III crushed Overwatch in the PS4 poll. Games can have widely different strength in the different polls. You say FPS games have the advantage on the Xbox One, but isn't that even more true with PC?

The only major FPS games that I know of which are much more popular on PC than consoles would be the Counter-Strike series and Half-Life series. Overwatch is another case of an FPS game that is more popular on PC than consoles, although it is slightly more popular on consoles when you're dealing with GameFAQs users.

The Xbox consoles have somewhat developed a reputation for being very appealing to the FPS gamer crowd.

And yeah, we've seen widely different strengths so far in these polls. Dark Souls III almost doubled Overwatch in the PS4 poll, but now Overwatch is doubling Dark Souls III in the PC poll.

Looks like a combined 3DS/Vita poll, although I was surprised that it wasn't called "3DS and PlayStation Vita" like it was in the 2015 GotY polls.

Pokemon has a good board vote so it will probably come down from here over time. I don't think this is good enough to beat FF15. Uncharted 4 doubled FE:F in the half year poll and Pokemon SM might not be able to maintain that.

Well, that update looks good for Sun/Moon. It went up after the freeze. Fire Emblem also went down on that update.

SM tripling FE:F would obviously make me more optimistic about its chances. I guess I'll wait and see a bit longer.

Uncharted 4 had 66.88% on Fire Emblem, while FFXV had 55.78% on Uncharted 4. X-Stats project FFXV to get 71.71% on Fire Emblem based on that, but Sun/Moon is outperforming that X-Stats projection with 77.26% on Fire Emblem right now.

Going off trends, Sun/Moon should drop off during the night vote and morning vote because those are its weakest time periods.

3DS doesn't deserve to get coupled with Vita for sure. I know they're being really cheap about GotY polls at this point and that it wouldn't make sense to pair otherwise, but it still seems unfair.

The Vita is nearing the end of its life cycle, especially now that Sony isn't supporting the system with games anymore. Third-party developers have been providing the games for the Vita lately. It wouldn't really make too much sense to run a separate Vita poll.

A game with a 65 Metacritic score got into a poll over a game with an 81 Metacritic score. Allen really blew it with this poll.

Allen did confirm a few months ago the criteria for selecting games in the system GotY polls is a combination of critic scores, GameFAQs user scores, and GameFAQs popularity. Basically, the same criteria that was used for the bracket selection process for the last BGE contest (minus the nominations though).

And today's poll is performing even worse than the Xbox One poll at the end of the first hour. This poll has only 919 votes at the end of the first hour (940 for the Xbox One poll), so it's probably going to get even less votes than the Xbox One poll. I'll put in an projected total of 8500 to 9500 votes for this poll.
