Don't get me wrong, I'm not crapping on God of War here, that e3 demo looked great. Though I question what you mean by "effort". Yeah, they demoed it on stage, but so was Days Gone and you don't see that topping the poll.

And I didn't see the RE7 trailer live. All I saw was a thread about a new RE game and clicked it out of curiosity (hell, I almost didn't click it at all, 5 and 6 were awful). I was expecting another campy shooter, but instead got a game evocative of Silent Hills, a game I was hugely anticipating. And this is coming from someone who considers RE4 to be one of his favorite games of all time. RE7's probably my most anticipated game at this point, even more than Zelda and Persona 5.

I guess it's not that surprising that it didn't win the poll; Silent Hill's and other more standard horror games have never been that popular here, but I thought the brand recognition would prop it up. Hell, Death Stranding got third in that poll, and that's based purely off of Kojima.

They opened with a live orchestra playing the soundtrack to the soon to be announced game, then went straight to the demo. That's what I mean by more effort. It was pretty clear Sony had God of War as a higher priority.

Personally more excited for Resident Evil 7 as well, but having a live orchestra playing the soundtrack as a lead in beats being one in a handful of VR titles showing right after each other.

Doctor says I need a GameFAQs contest soon or I'll die.
No need to lie to a man on his death bed!
Today's poll is a playrate poll for Super Mario 64. First time we are getting a Mario 64 playrate poll, but we have yet to get a Mario World playrate poll.

SM64's the best, SM64DS's the worst. I got 146 stars on SM64DS and just stopped caring at a time when my completionist-side would have normally taken over in a game I otherwise-love.

Bad port.

I managed to get used to SM64DS's control scheme after the 75th star.

It's actually not a bad port other than the controls considering how nice the additions are, but the controls are so terrible that I don't blame anyone hating it.

I got everything in 64DS and it felt soulless.

Ports need to be 100% exact to the original, with extra game modes as a bonus. I wanted Mario 64, not "Mario 64 with extra character gimmicks for mechanics".

I'm honestly kind of surprised that the number of people who have never played Mario 64 is greater than 10%.
The Mario 64 ending theme might be my most nostalgic gaming tune. Top 5 for sure.

And it's on gamefaqs, the game site with the highest average user age on internet !
The extra characters were pretty dumb but most importantly it just controlled terribly
Super Mario 64 finishes with a playrate of 88.42% in yesterday's poll. The Board 8 wiki page on this subject has been updated with the new poll:

Nah, I'd probably take a new indie game over it.

HM64 has kinda bombed in past polls, though it's only been in three, the most recent being 2008. I'd put it a percent or so behind DK64, it's a notable 64 game but it's never going to stand out among the likes of SM64, OoT, and SSB.

Also while looking at past results I found this: http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/263-what-do-you-think-is-the-best-nintendo-64-game-of-all-time

wow GameCube beating the N64 at the freeze

what a major shot at Ngamer's theory about how strong the N64 would be in that console contest we hopefully never have

Console contest would be great since it would be unlikely to draw any significant rallies.

The SNES or PC would steamroll that contest with ease. It's barely worth debating.

I'd probably take PC for the contest win upset special since that's where all the rallies come from.

still not worth it

We should just try it out, because our contests are very limited on the possible ideas that would work on this website. More than half of our contests have been Character Battles, along with 4 Games Contests (including GotD), Villains, Rivals, and the Series Contest.

If we don't branch out and attempt to try other ideas for contests, it hurts our chances of getting at least one contest every year. And running Character Battles each year would get boring, since our modern day GameFAQs wouldn't see any significant changes in the results from one year to another.

yes, "trying new ideas" is what got us villains, rivals, and series contests in the first place.
I don't care what y'all say the villains contest was quality.
No problem!
This is a cute and pop genocide of love!
It was honestly the best of the side contests we've had, but that's not a high bar to clear.

The sheer amount of fodder in a console contest would be insane, even if you limit it to 32 consoles.
I am aware of the fodder that we would have in a 32 console contest, so we could use the voting format from the last contest and run multiple matches at the same time. With 2 matches per day in round 1 and 1 match per day in round 2 and beyond, we could reduce the length of the contest to 23 days.

If the Console Contest does happen, it must happen during a year where we get a second contest. The Series Contest was only "passable" due to the fact we had an actual Character Battle not too long after that contest was over with.

NES, SNES, N64, GC
PS1, PS2, PS3, PS4
Xbox 360, Xbox One
GB, GBC, GBA, DS, 3DS
PSP, Vita
PC

That's more than enough to eliminate the turbofodder in Round 1 of a 32 entry bracket and even some of those will have to face each other.

Allen wouldn't run a contest that small. If it doesn't have triple digit entrants, he's not interested.
Allen did run a 64 entrant contest, so I think he would be open to a contest of that size again. I'm not sure if he will be up for the idea of run a 32 entrant contest, though.

I'm with Leonhart here. It'd be boring as s*** and honestly we could just do it now with a "Best Playstation poll" and then put SNES/PS2/PC together for "Best Overall Console?"

There, we answer that question in three days worth of polls without having to waste contest prep time on the idea.

Plus the actual contest discussion would be boring as f*** because there's not that much to talk about regarding which console is better. Most of the matches would be obvious as hell and there would very likely be a plethora of perfect brackets as a result.

I'm amazed the Gamecube is beating the Nintendo 64. The N64 had multiple big advantages on the GC:

Rare: golden age > non-existant
LoZ: OoT and MM > WW and TP
Mario: SM64 > SMS
Mario Kart: MK64 > MKDD
Star Fox: SF64 > SFAss and SFAdv

Granted, the GC had big wins too:

Super Smash Bros.: SSBM > SSB
Metroid: MP1/MP2 > non-existant
Resident Evil: REmake and RE4 > RE2-port
F-Zero: GX > X

It also had Fire Emblem, Animal Crossing, and Eternal Darkness...but that's nothing I wouldn't take Rare's N64-library over. Pretty surprised on this.

The 'Cube also has Tales of Symphonia
This should be Litten's final evolution:

Despite a few of its big games from long-running Nintendo franchises not quite meeting very high expectations, the Gamecube just has a larger more diverse library in general.

I also kinda think N64 puts Gamecube away much more easily 1-on-1, since I'd guess the majority of SNES voters would go with the console that came out closer to it.

Pretty much this.
This should be Litten's final evolution:
http://i.imgur.com/jjJjOLW.jpg
Here's how Nintendo systems did at the end of 2005 -- the Gamecube was still alive technically, even if it was mostly waiting for LoZ:TP:

http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/2215-what-was-the-best-nintendo-system-ever-created

And then yo got this first-party poll made in 2011 where the N64 won:

http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/4277-which-nintendo-console-do-you-think-has-had-the-best-first

So with the addition of LoZ:TP and its third-party titles, and considering N64 won its poll with Rare's games already included...I can see room for GC's growth, but I still don't believe this upset would happen.

Ptobably best to write this off on the SNES taking votes, yeah.

Not anymore. Nintendo 64 is just barely ahead of the GameCube now. The 2 systems are nearly dead even in the results. In a contest setting, I think Nintendo 64 wins a head-to-head match against the GameCube.

yeah, we gotta admit that N64 is more hurt by SNES than Gamecube by a longshot.
