We all know the old adage of GameFAQs not playing a video game after 2006, so Greninja would be fodder here. High-end fodder if he's lucky, thanks to Smash, but still fodder.

I think Smash would get him out of the fodder zone, but not too much farther than that.

I think Greninja would get a huge outside rally and beat Link, Snake, and Kefka in the finals of the next character contest.

I'd take Greninja over GTA characters, beyond that its just wishful thinking.

I have an idea what the meme rally bait winner is next contest but I'm not sharing it. It's actually pretty obvious if a contest is run in 2016, if you think about it a little.

Anti-rally people are cute.

There is literally rallying in every match ever. You guys just hate when it goes against results you want. Had Link beat Draven and Snake was rallied like mad to beat Link, I doubt anyone here whines. Ditto for Melee; no one here would have whined had Melee beaten Undertale.

I was actually glad Undertale put Melee in its place because of all the arrogant Melee fans who actually thought they could out-rally Undertale because they barely beat CT, as well as this whole "MELEE DESERVES THIS MORE THAN ANYONE" nonsense.

the Undertale fanbase is going to have a hard time picking a character if they get multiple in. If only one does (like Draven, because we're ignoring that other one), then maybe Sans goes all the way.

I have a few other ideas though. If they don't draw Link in Round 1, maybe they'll do damage!

Overwatch in a game contest could be interesting though.

I would totally take Overwatch to win a games contest, but I'm just not sure if any of the characters could stand out of the pack enough to really take a contest (yet, perhaps give it a few months), especially considering bracket placement is half the battle. Unless of course, we have three seeds being automatically granted to the highest newcomers.

Yeah TRE got it. He's always the best one at guessing games =p

Bandwagons in brackets all have 3 things in common. They're all brand new entrants, they all have the wild card meme factor, and they all flame out in their second contest. Some do well (Missingno, Cube), but their magic is gone. I don't think Sans will do much of anything in a character battle. Voter fatigue is a real thing. They don't always win the contest their first time as a bandwagon, either.

My personal bandwagon list. The rules are you have to win at least 3 matches, or be a SERIOUS threat in round 3, it has to be your first contest, and you have to have been a serious threat to win the contest itself. So Frog in 2004 doesn't count. He was not beating Link. Vincent in 2005 doesn't count because he was never going to beat Mario in a contest final and for sure wasn't doing anything in the ToC.

Crono in 2002 - I still say he wins that contest had he beaten Mario.
Mega Man in 2002 - Debatable but still putting it here. Read the old stats topic. Nothing generated more buzz in rounds 1-3.
Starcraft in 2004
L-Block in 2007
Weighted Companion Cube in 2008 - We were an eyelash from Cube winning that contest and it probably would have happened without L-Block fatigue; if a games contest had happened in 07/08, Portal would have won. We were also dangerously close to an L-Block repeat but Pikachu came along. It's a shame this was the "please god not again" contest. Cube, L-Block, and Zack were all making the perfect storm. Speaking of.
Zack Fair in 2008 - Had he managed to upset Mario in round 4, the next match would have been Link, Zack, Samus, and Crono in the semifinal. It's not inconceivable for Zack to get second place there. Then in the final with a wild card, anything goes. 2008 was a s*** contest when it happened, but fun to look back on.
Missingno in 2010 - Not a doubt in my mind he wins that contest had he beaten Sephiroth in round 3, which I still think happens were it a 24 hour match. After that it would have been Tifa, then Snake, then Cloud, then Link. It's the perfect bandwagon path.
Majora's Mask in Game of the Decade - The one example that goes against "first time ever" logic, because of how weird the bracket was. You had a game from 1999 just s*** all over everything from 2000 and on when most people on B8 thought it was losing in round 3, and got to benefit from both a bandwagon effect and an anti-bandwagon effect from elsewhere. No one wanted to see Brawl win Game of the Decade, but if Melee were in the final it probably wins that match. Great contest all around and the right game won.
Draven in 2013
Undertale in 2015

Overwatch has the it factor for sure.

At this point your best bet is to take all the new entrants, logically figure out which ones have buzz, and just run with one of them. You either lose in round 1 or win the contest, which is hilarious.

Tracer is the most well known character from the game, being shown on the box art. I'm not familiar with Overwatch at all, so I have no idea if the fanbase generally likes Tracer or not. Or even if they would be willing to support her if no other characters are able to make it into the contest.

The problem with Tracer is many may see her as annoying thanks to both her voice, looks, and gameplay. I've been playing Overwatch all the time since release, but I'm not a fan of Tracer at all. Well-known =/= favorite; ex: Pikachu.

What did the LoL fanbase think of Draven at the time? Was Draven even the face of LoL? Maybe another OW character could get rallied? I'd love to see a Reinhardt victory.

A new poll just got put up at 10:20 PM EST right after Sony's Press Conference ended.

Poll updates and trend charts from yesterday's night poll:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1eh8rgVB3QJOO3xXZIzK-0lWUUjvWFCxYmoLkpuOyKeI/pub?gid=28037570

This was a 14 hour, 6 minute poll. It would have been on track for about 15000 votes in a full 24 hour poll.

"None of them" performed worst during the Power Hour and the later part of the morning vote before Microsoft's Press Conference started.

"Just Microsoft's" had an awful board vote and Power Hour. It performed better during the night vote. Then it managed to perform best during the DSV despite the Microsoft Press Conference taking place during that time period. The start of the Microsoft Press Conference did cause this option to drop off a bit before making a very brief resurgence in the limited time that this poll was still up after the Press Conference ended.

"Just Sony's" had an excellent Power Hour. The night vote was fairly average, before dropping off a bit during the morning vote. It did perform slightly better when the Microsoft Press Conference was live, but not by too much.

"Two or three" performed best during the board vote and Power Hour. It dropped off during the night vote and then dropped off even more during the early morning vote. It then performed better during the later part of the morning vote before dropping off during Microsoft's Press Conference.

"All four" performed best during the Power Hour. It performed worst during the night vote and early morning vote and then performed slightly better during the late morning vote. This option also dropped off a bit during the Press Conference.

Poll updates and trend charts from yesterday's day poll:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1aFMDbroSSfrLATgcV_LtKyQvrzp0bNsHdET9NgPD7dw/pub?gid=1

This was an 8 hour, 14 minute poll. Projecting vote totals over a full 24 hours would have been difficult, though I guess this poll would also have gotten about 15000 votes in 24 hours. There is no DSV in this poll, as it started less than 30 minutes before the normal ASV starting time. The Power Hour runs until 3:00 PM and the ASV starts at 3:00 PM instead of 2:30 PM.

"A - Amazing" performed best during the Power Hour if you ignore the final hour of this poll (which was only a 20 minute sample size). It performed worst during the Sony Press Conference and Ubisoft Press Conference.

"B - Good job" also had fairly similar trends to "A - Amazing". The Power Hour was the the best time period, followed by the 2 hour period before the start of the Sony Press Conference. It easily performed worst during Sony's Press Conference. It was also hurt by Ubisoft's Press Conference, but to a lesser extent.

"C - Okay" has the most erratic trends here. Its best hour happened during the Sony Press Conference.

"D - Bad" had an awful Power Hour and performed best during the Ubisoft Press Conference.

"F - Terrible" also had an awful Power Hour, but had its best hour during the Sony Press Conference.

Poll updates and trend charts for yesterday's poll:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1uD3NF0lht63Zedh8CqP9IT3fkDxXZ5FZLecw84C6kf4/pub?gid=1

Unlike with the previous times we've had this poll (2013, 2014, and 2015), this poll wasn't closed in order to put up a new poll. While I considered the possibility of a new poll going up after Nintendo Treehouse Live (Day 1) came to an end, it would have been too late in the day to put up a new poll. Perhaps as a result of the unusual starting time of this poll and the weird poll schedule we had recently, this poll underperformed with the vote totals. This was a 25 hour, 40 minute poll and it only barely manages to reach 14000 votes. Assuming this poll started normally at 12:00 AM and ran for 24 hours, I predict this poll would have finished with about 15000 votes instead. Which would be a minor improvement over this poll's actual vote totals.

Trend charts were mostly unaffected by the poll starting at 10:20 PM, besides the earlier time periods. Board Vote is still the first 5 minutes, while the Power Hour ran from 10:20 PM to 11:20 PM. The FNV starts at 11:20 PM instead and runs until 6:00 AM (an additional 1 hour, 40 minutes of FNV trends). Everything else after the FNV is handled like they normally would.

"A - Outstanding" starts out with a strong board vote and Power Hour. It drops off hard during the night vote. It performs worst during the early morning vote, but does perform slightly better with the late morning vote and the day vote. Finally, it has a very strong SNV which probably saved it from otherwise losing the poll to "B - Good job". In the 2015 version of this poll, "A - Outstanding" almost lost to "B - Good job", but the poll came to an early close to put up a new poll. "B - Good job" was in the middle of a comeback in the 2015 poll where even an additional 30 minutes would have resulted in a lead change. Based on the trends of the 2015 poll, I didn't think "A - Outstanding" hold be able to maintain the lead for the entire poll, but somehow managed to survive a 25 hour, 40 minute poll.

"B - Good job" had an above average board vote, but a below average Power Hour overall. The night vote was roughly the same as the Power Hour. It does perform better with the morning vote, while it performs best during the day vote and SNV. Only once in this poll did "B - Good job" manage to hold a lead over "A - Outstanding". This happened at the 7:15 PM update where it had a 2 vote lead for a single update.

"C - Okay" has an awful board vote and Power Hour. It performs best with the night vote and morning vote, but drops off hard during the day vote and SNV.

"D - Bad" has fairly consistent trends overall. "F - Terrible" has an awful board vote and Power Hour, but it does perform better outside of the Power Hour.
