The results of today's poll are pretty interesting. While "A mobile phone" has gained over 4% since the last time we had this poll last year, all of that percentage being drained out of "A laptop computer". The rise of mobile phones on this site is hurting the laptop computer option.

As with the previous 2 versions of this poll, I am also tracking today's poll.

One third of the way through the year now. Your predictions for 2016 Game of the Year so far?

Haven't been keeping up much with gaming news so don't know what big releases are still coming besides FF15. Imagine it'll be that, Dark Souls 3, or another obvious choice I've forgotten.

DS3 > FF15 is a tempting upset pick, depending on FF15's reception upon release. Dark Souls didn't do too bad last contest, Bloodborne put up a respectable performance in the last GotY, and it's not like we've had a strong FF game since 10 came out.

Don't know if DS3 is quite strong enough on GameFAQs yet to be the favorite to win, but if the site demos shift a bit and FF15 ends up being good at best, it could happen.

Sun and Moon is a contender too.

Pokemon X/Y would have ended up winning GotY for 2013 if only it had managed to beat ALBW in the 3DS poll. That was the poll where ALBW just barely pulled out a win. Pokemon X/Y had been out for over 2 months by the time the GotY polls began. That was enough time for a lot of people to feel the game was a bit of a disappointment and yet it still managed to do as well as it did during the GotY polls.

Assuming Sun/Moon ends up being a much better game than X/Y, this should mean that Sun/Moon will have an easier time winning GotY. Although this also depends on the strength of the other major games that will be released this year. If 2016 is a weak year overall, Sun/Moon most likely wins GotY.

ALBW likely had to take advantage of GTA5 and TLoU LFFing each other to win the final poll. XY would likely have done the same thing but Sun/Moon won't necessarily have that set up.

Yeah, I'm not thinking it's likely, but Sun and Moon definitely stands a chance.

But in the first overall GotY poll featuring 8 games, ALBW couldn't win that poll because it was getting hurt by LFF from the presence of Super Mario 3D World. It still got to move onto the 3-way poll since it finished in third place. The 3-way GotY poll helped out ALBW by getting rid of Super Mario 3D World, while GTAV and TLoU hurt each other from LFF. If Sun/Moon is going to win GotY this year, it's almost certainly going to have another Nintendo game in the first overall GotY poll as the Wii U poll will give us a second Nintendo representative in the overall GotY poll. After all that, we're not even guaranteed to have a 3-way or a 2-way GotY poll based on the results of the first GotY poll (featuring around 8-10 games).

What's the Wii U game gonna be, though? A luke-warmly received Star Fox? Whatever it is will likely crater enough for Sun/Moon to put up a good fight in the first final group (assuming Sun/Moon is that strong by itself).

Yeah whatever it is, it will do pretty badly. I guess Star Fox by default.

I'd take Pokken Tournament to beat Star Fox.

I totally forgot about Pokken Tournament. I would pick that game to win the Wii U poll over Star Fox. And Pokken Tournament is probably the worst game to appear in an overall GotY poll alongside Pokemon Sun/Moon, as the LFF would be more severe than if Star Fox was in the overall GotY poll.

Maybe the new Paper Mario game will actually be good...!

I literally played a few over the weekend at a bowling alley. It's not about being old, it's about many people being anti-social and never leaving the house. Arcades are still around.

No that would be better for Sun and Moon. No Pokemon fan would prefer Pokken there I'm sure. Pokken would do so bad due to bring SFF'd much more. Like, obviously Bowser would LFF Mario way less than Ganondorf.

I am utterly shocked by the results of today's poll!

The results of today's poll are pretty similar to the same poll we had back in 2014, except that 2000s lost about 2.5% while 2010s gained about 2% and 1990s gained about 0.5%.

Interesting poll today. I noticed today's poll is referring to a legendary NES version of Battletoads. I'm not familiar with the game at all (never played it), but what is different between the regular version and legendary version?

Not sure, but the way I read it, it seems to say that the NES version is "legendary". Not that there is 2 version of the game

Battletoads is itself legendary for being very difficult (though more due to bad game design than anything).

Is that true? I thought this was an urban legend.

Even though I could treat yesterday's poll as a playrate poll for Battletoads, it is plagued by the fact the poll question asks about the NES version of the game and doesn't take into account that some people have played the game on another system.

I'm still considering if I want to include this playrate result on the "Have You Played" Board 8 wiki page.

Yeah, there was a glitch on one of the levels that froze player 2's controls so you literally could not continue the level without killing him off. They fixed it in other versions, but this is referring to the NES version.

Battletoads is one of those rare games where co-op is actually harder than single player. The auto-scroll speeder levels basically require you to be in perfect sync with each other because if one player dies on a jump, both players die for some inexplicable reason and have to go back to before the jump. There's also friendly fire (that you can't disable, by the way) so you can accidentally (or intentionally if you're trolling, I guess) hurt each other when fighting bad guys.
