Game of the Year polls! These are legitimately really fun.

Also I'm adding a couple abbreviations and fixing a couple typos if that's okay.

~*Say What? Common Stats Topic Lingo Defined*~

SFF (Same Fanbase Factor) - Same Fanbase Factor is the theory that, if two contestants share a common fanbase, the weaker of the two options will underperform in a direct matchup. For instance, Link was expected to defeat Ganon with 65% of the vote in 2004, based on their 2003 values. Instead, Link collected near 88% of the vote. This is the best example of SFF we've ever seen. However take some SFF labels with a grain of salt, as many people will slap it onto any match that doesn't make perfect sense.

Extrapolated Standings (X-Stats) - The mathematical "strength" of a contestant that's determined based on their performance relative to the rest of the field. This number is typically based on the contest entrant's loss, but adjustments are sometimes made. See above for a watered down explanation for how the stats are calculated.

LPF - Last Place Factor, which a term used in matches that have three or four entrants. Usually when there is an obvious choice for last place, that entrant performs weaker than usual since voters are smart enough these dates to put their votes on something that matters. A good example is Link/Shepard/Draven.

ASV - After school vote, which is usually the biggest trend in a poll other than the first hour and the morning vote.

I am not sure exactly what you meant here. "Last Place Factor" would be abbreviated as LPF instead of LFF (one letter difference). LFF is a term that refers to the impact of 2 or more entrants of the same fanbase has on a match featuring more than 2 entrants.

The only real competition for Splatoon in the Wii U poll will be Super Mario Maker and Splatoon definitely isn't a lock to win that poll. I would probably lean towards Super Mario Maker winning that poll, but it won't be running away with the poll. Super Mario Maker also finished higher in the final x-stats than Splatoon, so we'll how much that holds up in the Wii U poll.

What happened to the real LFF, Leech Fanbase Factor, probably the most important term of all from 2007-2009? Did we take it off the first post in the belief/hope that 4-ways would never return?

So I beat Mass Effect 3 today.

Back when SBAllen had announced the "Worst Character Ever" contest, was there a push to get The Catalyst in?

Not only was it kind of awful in itself but its ten minutes of screen time started a major gaming controversy and were pretty much responsible for tainting the reputation of its entire game. I can't think of any other character that was such a total disaster.

To follow up on Ngamer's thoughts from the last topic, this year probably has a more extreme version of what we saw with Dark Souls 2 against South Park: Stick of Truth last year. While I'm fine with two multi-platform polls and an exclusives poll to better settle this, I also liked 2012's system of doing it by genre.
---

My bracket had a bad time.
I also liked the 2012 system because we got to avoid having a Mobile poll which would get maybe 8000 votes today (based on last year's Mobile poll and factoring in the vote total drop-off over the past year).

Also, since 2015 has officially come to an end, here is an update on our average vote totals by year:

1999 - 4408
2000 - 7062
2001 - 14019
2002 - 34435
2003 - 55397
2004 - 54598
2005 - 56643
2006 - 74644
2007 - 87908
2008 - 91112
2009 - 85797
2010 - 72588
2011 - 56882
2012 - 42981
2013 - 36506
2014 - 27323
2015 - 21162

Xenoblade Chronicles X way up on the second update, Splatoon and Super Mario Maker drop off. Xenoblade has made this poll interesting now, as it could threaten Super Mario Maker overnight.

It just occurred to me that we might actually get better vote totals on the GotY polls if people didn't view them as regular PotDs (and thus, ignoring them completely). Because of this, I actually recommend replacing the standard "Poll of the Day" header text above the poll question with something that says "Game of the Year Awards" or something similar to that. Here is a mock-up screenshot of what my proposal would look like:

http://i.imgur.com/0UqBRmf.png

For the entire duration of the GotY polls, I feel the standard "Poll of the Day" header text should be replaced with something else completely, so people no longer view these polls as regular PotDs anymore. This could possibly boost vote totals. It's no secret that the GotY polls receive very poor treatment from Allen as nothing is really done to promote these polls among the general GameFAQs community. Sites like GameSpot and IGN simply do a better job getting their own communities to participate in their yearly Game of the Year polls (which doesn't override the official awards handed out by the GameSpot and IGN staff).

124 Gurus were better than me in BGE 2015 contest! But the best of all was DpObliVion! Congrats!
I wondered if XCX will look weaker than SMM due to SMM splitting votes with Splatoon here, but maybe not...

http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/5915-which-scheduled-big-name-2015-release-are-you-most-looking

...either way, XCX looks unlikely to win the final-GotY poll. Witcher 3 already more than doubled Splatoon here (and suggested Witcher 3 will beat Bloodborne later too)...

http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/6198-best-of-2015-wii-u

...and I don't trust XCX after GOTY 2010 2011 2012 2015's past performances. Xenoblade and its characters never got out of the first round, and Xenoblade's runner-up for GotY in 2012 looks worse when we saw how all the 2012-games looked in our last contest*. Throw in the SMM-comparison and being a Wii U-exclusive, and I don't like its chances.

Regarding the CT/Melee discussion in the last topic - BT, there is no way CT would've finished under 63% there without a rally. CT is not the board vote wonder it used to be, and Melee has quasi-joke trends.

Leon is right that KH2 shows Melee and FFX aren't far apart. People may accuse him of bias but he's the most objective guy here when he isn't joking around.

Anyone have the raw stats? And maybe a spreadsheet I could upload, allowing people to make their own adjustments?
I've still got a copy of the raw stats.

I forgot to send you the RR and CBIX X-Stats, too, so I guess I could go ahead and send you those as well.

Rare Replay falls below 20% by the end of the board vote. Considering the strong night vote for The Witcher 3 in both its contest matches and the PS4 GotY poll, I expect The Witcher 3 to take the lead eventually and hold the lead to win this poll.
