~*Say What? Common Stats Topic Lingo Defined*~

SFF (Same Fanbase Factor) - Same Fanbase Factor is the theory that, if two contestants share a common fanbase, the weaker of the two options will underperform in a direct matchup. For instance, Link was expected to defeat Ganon with 65% of the vote in 2004, based on their 2003 values. Instead, Link collected near 88% of the vote. This is the best example of SFF we've ever seen. However take some SFF labels with a grain of salt, as many people will slap it onto any match that doesn't make perfect sense.

Extrapolated Standings - The mathematical "strength" of a contestant that's determined based on their performance relative to the rest of the field. This number is typically based on the contest entrant's loss, but adjustments are sometimes made. See above for a watered down explanation for how the stats are calculated.

2. Not really an adjustment, just a note: Paper Mario 2 is projected to get 35.75% on WW this year, and 39.27% in 2010. Considering that and how good Wind Waker looked overall, it's likely that it boosted from 2010 to 2015.

Chrono Trigger/Melee would have been higher than 63.28% naturally, since you didn't factor in that Chrono Trigger would have done even better than that when you factor in the unregistered users who were not connected to the rally. Melee actually won the board vote over Chrono Trigger, which would line-up with Melee doing better among registered users than the unregistered users. I'd recommend bumping Chrono Trigger up to 64% on Melee.

FFVI at 46% on FFVII seems like a slight overestimation. Judging from the early vote, FFVII looked like it was going to finish at 57% on FFVI after ignoring the spillover. So maybe setting FFVI to 45% on FFVII would be a better option to go with, since SFF has been very minimal to non-existent in this contest.

Melee's percentage on FFVII should be moved down a bit since FFVII would have done better among the unregistered users not connected to the rally. Melee at 42% on FFVII seems more reasonable.

Note: The Super Metroid/MM match performed about as expected if you projected through Galaxy's result on Dragon Age. Because of this, I don't think Galaxy was SFFd much if at all, so it doesn't need to be adjusted.

Rally spill-over and Direct-hype and SFF or not, but Melee's looking pretty solid to me! I mean, Super Mario RPG or FF6, which would you take? Not to mention Melee being rather close to what OoT got on it!

Also, god damn FF9. Vivi > Mario makes a lot more sense now.

And as has been said, looking like OoT > CT > FF7, though if CT made the finals this year it could've won just to dethrone OoT. Probably not looking too likely next contest, though!

Natural trends are starting to set in for FFVII, but this is a much slower rise than I'm used to seeing from FFVII.

Oh yeah, vote total comparisons at 4:00 AM for today's matches vs. OoT/SMRPG at the same time:

All of the vote totals in today's matches are comparable to OoT/SMRPG, which is another match that had very heavy spillover. Today's matches should all be on track to get at least 85000 votes.

Actually I think Undertale would win that handily since it proved in the last two rounds that its voter pool really was as big as needed.

But if you took 2009 Ocarina of Time, and added LSD Link's rallying motivation/strength, that would be insane. I would literally pay money for a sports-announcer-style viewing of that match.

Well okay yeah Skyrim/Goldeneye and Prime/HL2 looked fishy I suppose. Still find it funny that Goldeneye did so badly this contest while Mario RPG did well, then you look at 2009 and see who beat who. For all we know Goldeneye might have been able to 60-40 RE4 or any MGS back then!

Skyrim actually did better against PW than the likes of Mario Galaxy and BioShock were projected to do in GOTD, plus Wright himself has most definitely gotten stronger.
