Not_Wylvane posted... Oh man, MWC got suspended too? Oh damn someone made a topic asking if he'd been banned, got my hopes up. Guess at least this'll keep him off the board today. --- Ralliers' determination can't even hold a birthday candle to the blazing flame of DpOblivion's winning spirit! |

MWC
is suspended, I assume his fate won't be decided until tomorrow, an
admin has to act on it. You'd think with his history (really even
without it) he'd be banned, but you never know. --- xp1337: Don't you wish there was a spell-checker that told you when you a word out? |
In terms of vote totals, we had 2 straight identical updates for those last 2 updates. --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as DpObliVion, Guru Champ! |
Only 16 that time. OOT with a 48% update. --- September 1, 2003; November 4, 2007; September 2, 2013 NEVER FORGET. |
I've
been checking various gaming forums, and many of them are just voting
against Zelda to make Gamefaqs users mad. Zelda is pretty much a
lightning rod for getting people to come to GF to antivote it these
days. --- http://i.imgur.com/aF7qUNh.jpg http://i.imgur.com/db8BkaS.gif http://steamsignature.com/card/0/76561197979294707.png |

Contests have changed. The Total Domination Zone is Zelda's now. look at oot rise --- xp1337: Don't you wish there was a spell-checker that told you when you a word out? |
Just
don't want you to lose perspective. I know to you it feels like the
death of contests, but it's really not. Smaller rallies will happen but
the big ones? This entire Undertale thing almost didn't even happen - I
would actually bet money on there being no major, game changing rally
next contest, whatever it may be. And even if there was, as long as the
community is here, these things will always be fun. Its not all about
just predicting! The most enjoyment I got out of this contest was going
on The Show and the Livecast every night. You should try coming on next
time, it's a lot of fun. Just stay positive man. Find the fun in it all. --- Black Turtle did a pretty good job. |
Last two Contests have had a super rally win the whole thing. I'll be pleasantly surprised if it doesn't happen again. --- http://i498.photobucket.com/albums/rr345/Rakaputra/B8%20Girls%202012/pjbas.png LongLiveraytan |
You know what has never won a contest with a super rally A 1v1 Characters Contest that's what --- Welcome to the League of Antivotes. |
These
contests break my heart in most years. This year I was pretty sure it
couldn't happen, because Chrono Trigger was doing so well it didn't seem
possible to go out in a heartbreaking way - like I wouldn't really mind
losing to OOT or Undertale - but then it went ahead and lost in such an
awful way anyways. But we keep faith, and endure until the next one
(in contest time, this is pretty much the first contest since 2010 to
me, I have almost no memory of Rivalry Rumble and Link/Draven
encompasses about 80% of my memory of the 2013 contest). --- September 1, 2003; November 4, 2007; September 2, 2013 NEVER FORGET. |
I
mean, I don't think it's guaranteed, but I think it's a thing that's
fairly likely to happen in any given contest unless Allen carefully
guards against it via screening entrants or setting up rally candidates
against titans in round 1. He did those for maybe LoL and Hearthstone,
but I don't think he's going to do it in general. --- Ralliers' determination can't even hold a birthday candle to the blazing flame of DpOblivion's winning spirit! |
The
last two contests had very unique scenarios. I know it doesn't feel
that way to people here but its a miracle things happened twice in a
row. --- Black Turtle did a pretty good job. |
Really
the problem is the contests mean more to me than they should for any
well-adjusted person. Feeling like "losing" them then hits a lot harder
than it should. (I know the contests aren't mine to lose or anything, I
just don't know to phrase that better right now) Like I can acknowledge how I'm feeling is downright pathetic and embarrassing but I can't really help it. I'll "get over it" for a given definition of it. Probably when the off-season really hits. Or maybe later in the day after I've slept - I've noted I tend to lose some control over how I'm feeling the more tired I am. Just harder to do that in the middle of this. My in-character shtick and general snarking was basically me trying to find fun in it, but I've through my own fault kind of drained the fun out of that right now too. --- xp1337: Don't you wish there was a spell-checker that told you when you a word out? I mean, I don't think it's unreasonable to be bummed that one of your hobbies has fundamentally changed. --- Ralliers' determination can't even hold a birthday candle to the blazing flame of DpOblivion's winning spirit! |
I was one sticky topic away from having my favorite character win the contest and I'm literally still mad --- Welcome to the League of Antivotes. |
People
get quite heartbroken over sports too, and this is similar in that
regard. It's more than just an internet poll, everyone here has
invested more in it than an "internet poll" would merit. --- September 1, 2003; November 4, 2007; September 2, 2013 NEVER FORGET. |
The
low vote counts and rise of social media just make it so much easier
for rallies to take over contests these days. 10 years ago we never
would have had the level of rallies Draven and Undertale have seen, plus
it was over 100k votes a match. Unless Gamefaqs somehow goes back to
mid 2000s levels popularity again or social media dies, there will never
be another contest without outside forces deciding some character or
game to rally. --- http://i.imgur.com/aF7qUNh.jpg http://i.imgur.com/db8BkaS.gif http://steamsignature.com/card/0/76561197979294707.png |
red sox 777 posted... People get quite heartbroken over sports too years of being a jets fan should have prepared me for this moment the endless disappointment --- xp1337: Don't you wish there was a spell-checker that told you when you a word out? |
I was one Zelda rally away from my favorite game winning a contest. And we're just now getting out of that dark timeline. --- http://i.imgur.com/3DwCNLJ.gif What DpOblivion did to me in the Guru Contest, in GIF form |
Chrono Cross got to win two matches. I think I can be content with that. --- http://i498.photobucket.com/albums/rr345/Rakaputra/B8%20Girls%202012/pjbas.png LongLiveraytan |
Zelda has literally been the reigning champ over everything virtually all the time until the last two contests Not that I'm saying anyone shouldn't feel free to be bummed about this outcome but some contest entries have yet to win a single tournament and STILL get the stigma of Always Wins argh --- Welcome to the League of Antivotes. |
2008
was a really important contest, like 2003. We had a fear that jokes
would win all contests forever after 2007, and L seemed to be on his way
again in 2008. Then Pikachu beat L, without challenging Crono for
first place. And then in the final, Link beat down a bandwagon, eating
its momentum and tripling his lead with the ASV. --- September 1, 2003; November 4, 2007; September 2, 2013 NEVER FORGET. |
The
bottom two divisions turned out pretty great because they were mostly
rally-free and my favorite game in each division won. That's more than
I'd get to say in most contests! --- http://i.imgur.com/3DwCNLJ.gif What DpOblivion did to me in the Guru Contest, in GIF form |
I might have succumbed to DOOM early, but I feel like this contest was overall kind of boring. The most compelling storyline to me (CT) got backstabbed. And the actual best match (Super Metroid/MM) just didn't grab me like previous contest matches for some reason. I don't know how to explain it... like there was a lot of interesting set-up going on but we never got the pay-off. CT was built up to be the redemption story of the contest and goes down in the most brutal fashion. The Mario Gauntlet never came to pass. You did have Metroid, and that did have some pay-off in the SM/MM match but ehhhh. Like is that the best we're getting? --- xp1337: Don't you wish there was a spell-checker that told you when you a word out? |
Oh
yeah for sure the way the contest actually played out was ho-hum. All
of our big showdowns were ruined by a fodder game (Undertale) and a
near-elite (SSBM). The lower half of the bracket, for all the crap it
got, arguably gave us the best clean(-ish) matches by far. --- Welcome to the League of Antivotes. |
Yeah, a lot of the stuff we were hyped up about seeing never ended up happening. That was kind of a bummer. At least we didn't get robbed of our MGS/MGS match this year! --- http://i.imgur.com/3DwCNLJ.gif What DpOblivion did to me in the Guru Contest, in GIF form |
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh --- Welcome to the League of Antivotes. |
Undertale only gained 18 there. Maybe the cut is close...! --- http://i.imgur.com/3DwCNLJ.gif What DpOblivion did to me in the Guru Contest, in GIF form |
Can
we at least stop acting like OoT gets backlash for having beaten
favorites? That's not even remotely close to mattering. Undertale beat
more favorites, but it's not a factor for either one. --- Ctesjbuvf posting on his phone. |
Oh my god OOT had a cu... Oh wait that was a fake update LOL --- 3DS FC : 3411-1762-0066 |
Eh,
there's a difference between Zelda beating stuff all the time and the
"plucky underdog" rising up against impossible odds. Heck, Melee
probably got more backlash from the site in general from beating CT and
FFVII than Undertale did (and rightfully so tbqh). This site will always be a sucker for Cinderella stories. Always. --- http://i.imgur.com/3DwCNLJ.gif What DpOblivion did to me in the Guru Contest, in GIF form |
I
think the big question I have coming out of the bottom quarter is just
how strong is SMRPG? Part of me feels disappointed that it seems so weak
that SMRPG could surge ahead of MGS1/MGS3/RE4 but maybe SMRPG is just
now a lot stronger thanks to YEAR OF SNES and doesn't actually speak
poorly to those games at all. I like SMRPG, but my snap feeling to it making the semifinals was, "Wow. Was that quarter really that weak?" I'd love to see SMRPG against FFVI or FFVII or something to get a gauge on it. --- xp1337: Don't you wish there was a spell-checker that told you when you a word out? |
Ocarina does get backlash for beating favorites in the sense that it beat everybody last time around. Anti-champion voting is very real. But yeah no one really gives a s*** that it beat SMRPG and FFIX heads-up this contest or whatever. --- Welcome to the League of Antivotes. |
Super
Mario RPG is probably a top 20 game, which is amazing to consider with
how badly it gets crushed in Europe. It could legitimately be a top 10
game if it had any European presence. Nothing seems to confuse people more than Mario RPG being popular (for whatever the reason), but it is quite popular. --- http://i.imgur.com/3DwCNLJ.gif What DpOblivion did to me in the Guru Contest, in GIF form |
I'm all for SMRPG being popular... just wasn't quite prepared for MGS/MGS3/RE4 popular! --- xp1337: Don't you wish there was a spell-checker that told you when you a word out? |
That's why Super Mario RPG is the Star of the Contest! ...and will be worth 25% on Undertale in the raw stats. --- http://i.imgur.com/3DwCNLJ.gif What DpOblivion did to me in the Guru Contest, in GIF form |
Yeah, it's because it won it all, but it means nothing which games it beat on the way. Hopefully by the next contest, there'll be less Zelda always wins. At least I hope to see less FFVII always wins, because that's just sad at this point. --- Ctesjbuvf posting on his phone. |
No one will remember that Zelda lost Even if they remember that Undertale won, it won't stop the fact that it sure feels like Zelda always wins! --- Ralliers' determination can't even hold a birthday candle to the blazing flame of DpOblivion's winning spirit! |
Nah, Star of the Contest is still Chrono "Gets to be called stronger than OoT without getting near it" Trigger. Feel like even Super Metroid has a bigger claim to it too. But then SMRPG for sure! --- xp1337: Don't you wish there was a spell-checker that told you when you a word out? |
People do sometimes care about what things have been beaten heads-up, though. Sephiroth beating Missingno. created backlash against him that reverberated through the rest of that contest. --- Welcome to the League of Antivotes. |
Nah,
the "Zelda always wins" stigma is deserved because it's won nearly 2/3
of the contests we've held, even after losing the last two, and it
would've had a really good chance of winning this year had Undertale not
happened. --- http://i.imgur.com/3DwCNLJ.gif What DpOblivion did to me in the Guru Contest, in GIF form (edited 12/15/2015 1:49:59 AM)report |
Final Fantasy did nothing but lose contests for 10 years and it still always wins. Every Zelda game could have lost in Round 1 and it'd still always win! --- xp1337: Don't you wish there was a spell-checker that told you when you a word out? |
Only a 6 vote gain that time! So close! --- http://i.imgur.com/3DwCNLJ.gif What DpOblivion did to me in the Guru Contest, in GIF form |
stop taunting me OoT. just get it done. we're almost halfway through the TDZ we're on a clock here! --- xp1337: Don't you wish there was a spell-checker that told you when you a word out? |
