Well I think this can officially go in the books as the worse contest we've had so far with the most potential all the heroes fell and we were left with Pokemon Melee and Undertale this is the literal darkest timeline

It's honestly pretty bad for me.

Like just from a matches standpoint it's probably better than like... Rivalry Rumble. But if you factor in the hype I had for this contest and the ensuing letdown? man.

I'm also amazed just how hivemind the whole internet is. Like seriously its freaking Ocarina of Time and it can barely hang on against a 3 month old game. It really is true that people are so easy to manipulate.

People just like being part of something. It allows them to mentally cast themselves as agents of change or as revolutionaries in their own internal movie.

It's why so many Undertale voters have never actually played it (because seriously, 1/4 or 1/5 of the people who have played it are not voting for Undertale. They're just not). It's a vote for "change", it's a vote against the status quo, it's a vote for the indie underdog, it's the vote for new over old, it's a vote for "salt", it's a vote for the individual, hard-working charm of Toby Fox's script over the corporation of Nintendo, it's everything. It's incredibly easy to manipulate people to that cause.

I said this exact thing in the previous stats topic. This is a success of anti-establishment narrative, pure and simple. We can't do anytihng about our baby boomer parents who ruined America, but by God we can destroy the website that likes older games by ruining their contest!

Yeah, no kidding. Like, there are a couple of bright spots -- SMRPG's run, Super Metroid -- but man, nothing really good got to happen here. No CT/Mario, no legit Mario/Pokemon, no CT upset! Real shame that UNDERTALE (damn this video game) defines the whole thing.

She's a model pretending to be a pro wrestler. She is objectively awful.

Everyone with a score of 81 or less got the match wrong.

252 out of the top 255 brackets (98.8%) and 976 out of the top 1015 brackets (96.2%) got the match right. The 237 point bracket that didn't have OoT in the finals was an Undertale bracket. There was an Undertale bracket with 219 points but I can't tell if that was the same bracket that got the match wrong. The 215 point bracket that got the match wrong was not an Undertale bracket since it did not have Undertale winning two days ago.

I checked GAF and I see mentions of the contest in their Undertale OT but I didn't note anything else.

These people are doing what they're told. They aren't fans of the actual game. Some of course, but probably not most.

I mean, I'd do what I was told as well if someone I liked asked me to vote in some poll, so I'd be a sheep too in that sense. But they are sheep.

This is embellishment at its finest. Even if there were only a handful of people whining (and it's not much more than that), other sites would still latch onto them and identify the rest of the site with us (see: BracketEntry).

If other sites actually had the guts to run these contests like we do, they'd fall into the same "pitfalls" and be routinely "mocked" like we are. GameSpot couldn't handle it and shut them down!

"This site" isn't whining like a bunch of girls. As always it's a vocal minority, who will never stop what they are doing regardless of what happens to those around them.

And if someone coming here to investigate can't figure out the difference, that's not "our" problem. It's theirs for assuming that anyone who says a bad thing about Undertale is representative of the site. For all the "progressive" mindset the Internet claims to have, as a whole the popular Internet culture is pretty damn good at assuming a "non-progressive" voice speaks for its entire website.
