why are we talking about OoT in the finals SMRPG is obviously gonna be the true underdog story and win it all
Doesn't Tetris get considered an honorary Nintendo game though? Kind of like Pac-Man?

Tetris was Nintendo enough for Zelda 1 to pound it with SFF to the tune of 74%.

That's not Nintendo SFF. That's casual vote SFF. Tetris folding to Zelda is identical to Ryu Hayabusa folding to Snake, and I don't think people say Ryu H folded due to Playstation SFF.

But it's equally applicable to Link and L-Block.

Anyways, if Melee were to somehow pull this off, I think we'll get a good read on the mood of the site tomorrow with the SMRPG match. If SMRPG overperforms a lot, that would indicate that the site doesn't want OOT to win because Zelda always wins.

People were arguing that Melee and L-Block aren't comparable because bandwagons cannot take effect if they face something stronger on the SFF totem pole. But Zelda/Tetris is an SFF match.

Hmm. It depends on if you think casual SFF is supposed to hold when people actually start giving a damn about an entrant. Like L-Block in his first round was an entirely different entity from Linkslaying L-Block because everybody started caring about it. Not just GameFAQS but also the greater Internet. Casual SFF wouldn't apply because the vote was no longer casual at all, if that makes any sense?

Yeah, Snake>Tanner was totally a SFF scenario. I never thought Ryu H was a big Playstation boy though - I always thought his strength came more from having an amazing character design. If it was a case of Playstation SFF, Ryu H should have folded to Riku and Roxas, right?

This is probably the worst part of the rallies. Undertale vs. SM64 was much less interesting than Pokemon vs. SM64 would have been, especially if Pokemon went mostly unrallied. Undertale vs. SM64 was a lock for Undertale imo.

SFF (Same Fanbase Factor) - Same Fanbase Factor is the theory that, if two contestants share a common fanbase, the weaker of the two options will underperform in a direct matchup. For instance, Link was expected to defeat Ganon with 65% of the vote in 2004, based on their 2003 values. Instead, Link collected near 88% of the vote. This is the best example of SFF we've ever seen. However take some SFF labels with a grain of salt, as many people will slap it onto any match that doesn't make perfect sense.

that's what I was thinking! and it wouldn't be that much, Ocarina of Time only needs to put like 62.5% or something on both

though the real comedy option is OoT hanging 71%+ on both and Okami being #9, among other hilarious things

So I just checked up the x-stats and apparently Deus Ex and Valkyria Chronicles are stronger than Mario Maker. Does anyone actually think that would happen in a contest match?

Also wow Monster Hunter > Perfect Dark.

And why did we not have much faith in DKC2 pre-contest? It's considered to be one of the gems of the SNES and accordingly placed very high on THE LIST.

Undertale blew a lot of its load early on. Some of those early updates were straight up ludicrous.

That said, it'll be interesting to see its staying power throughout the day. Melee's gonna have to step up its rally game tomorrow if it wants any sort of chance.

Oh, and it's going very, very slow right now.

We didn't get a site banner for today's match and it made sense to start it in the semifinals since there's only one match per day. Maybe we'll get a site banner for the final, but even I don't see that as a 100% possibility.

lol no way FFVII would have even kept up this long

I can't really be mad at any of these two with the absolutely insane votals right now. Damn
What's happening now isn't super relevant. What matters is if Undertale has a ceiling (spoilers: no) and how much Smash can bring to the table when it goes beyond the reddit rally and a few tweets tomorrow.

Ryu Hayabusa folded when it was Snake, Riku, and Nightmare enough for Riku to take advantage.

However, Ryu beat Riku and Roxas combined when the third character was Haseo, who was much more likely to hurt the KH duo both in terms of fanbase and appeal.
