For instance, Link was expected to defeat Ganon with 65% of the vote in 2004, based on their 2003 values. Instead, Link collected near 88% of the vote. This is the best example of SFF we've ever seen. However take some SFF labels with a grain of salt, as many people will slap it onto any match that doesn't make perfect sense. Extrapolated Standings - The mathematical "strength" of a contestant that's determined based on their performance relative to the rest of the field. This number is typically based on the contest entrant's loss, but adjustments are sometimes made. Against
Oblivion, SMRPG maxed out its lead at 1368 overnight and Oblivion only
managed to cut 90 votes off that lead with the Euro vote. I think SMRPG
should be safe if the lead can get up to 700 or more before the Euro
vote really starts to kick in. RE4 should have a better night vote than

SMRPG
looked as strong as GotD RE4. RE4 looked as strong as GotD RE4. Both
games are having a close match with each other. Even if it is SMRPG that
goes up against OoT, it has already made a pretty solid case for being
about as strong as GotD RE4. Rallies and rallies spillover also affects

Yeah,
like I said, RE4 has a shot, but we're already way behind yesterday's
pace in terms of vote totals so a 600 vote lead here is worth more than

Oh, certainly not! MGS3 is one of my favorite games. But it's hard to feel like it winning isn't an explicit repudiation of MGS, especially considering MGS has the 90s advantage, sales advantage, REMAKE advantage, and general storytelling and gameplay advantage. I get that last part can be subjective, but something's definitely transpired since the last time we saw these games, and that's sad for MGS's stock as a whole. wasn't directed at me, but MGS3 is better than MGS for me. MGS has aged
like milk. I replayed the series to get hyped for 5, and MGS1 is far
and away the worst one to actually play. The charm and story and such

while back someone basically said that RE4 is weaker now because it
doesn't really have "Nintendo," strength anymore and I think that's
kinda true. In 2006 or so it was one of the major games that defined the
Gamecube, now it's a multiplat that's remembered for influencing a lot
of modern games and has been ported to like a billion different

it's
tough to grapple with the idea that Bioshock > MGS. maybe there's
SFF here? I dunno, that sounds stupid. even if you assume that there was
some rally votes for Bioshock, it still was pulling 52-53% updates on
MGS3 in the first hour. maybe it doesn't end up ahead of MGS but just
the idea of Bioshock putting the fear of god into MGS1 feels bizarre. I think, after this match, we know as much as we can about the contest. everything else sans smrpg/mgs3 (should it come to that) is going to be tainted at best. so, being conservative and giving Ocarina/FF7 the benefit of the doubt in the absence of solid results.... 1. Ocarina 2. FF7 3. Chrono Trigger 4. RBY 5. Mario 64 6. LTTP 7. Mario World 8. Mario 3 9. Majora's Mask 10. Super Metroid? Mario RPG? Melee? FF6? --- xyzzy |

don't think it's a repudiation of MGS - I've taken some swipes at it,
but all were in jest. I just feel that in a match that's THIS driven by
the core fanbase - the core fanbase will be the ones to decide it, and
MGS3 has people who are just in love with it. MGS1 has tremendous
respect all over the internet, but 3 is the one I've seen more heartfelt
outpouring for, at least on GameFAQs. These inter-series SFF matches are weird when there is no defined hierarchy. I think the ultimate example of such a match would be Mario World vs 64 - I can see voters sitting there and thinking about that one for a solid minute before deciding. --- http://i.imgur.com/gByqgPg.gif |
