Are
the Pokemon games really that varied? Red, Blue, and X are the only
ones I've played through, and X seemed incredibly similar to the
originals. Dressing up the MC and making kissy faces to make my Pokemon
more powerful were something I guess, but those are more side things. --- All the stars in the sky are waiting for you. |

for FF 7 and OOT? Because I am pretty sure FF 7 will get owned and OOT

loss is FFVII almost getting to 54% in 2004. For characters, in 1v1,

I
only ask about thoughts on rallying because I'm honestly mystified on
where you guys draw the line, when is it not acceptable to be happy
about a rally result? It seems completely different from 10 years ago where people were pissed and happy about the result of the rally, vs this year it's just yeah rallies themselves suck except when it's to make MM or CT look better? Because nick has been rallying CT all contest and not a single person here cared. Are

It's the same in the sense that you get a starter Pokemon, catch more Pokemon, collect 8 badges, defeat evil organization and defeat the elite 4. has said he's been rallying CT all contest but I honestly had no faith
that the Facebook page was accomplishing anything meaningful, so I
didn't say anything. I called him out when he rallied for Starcraft to
beat ME2 when he said he was anti-rallying on The Show, in fact. And if CT needed a rally to beat Melee when it wouldn't have won on its natural strength, then no, I would not have liked that. Most of us have been very clear on where we stand on rallying the entire time. I'm not sure why we need to keep having this discussion. This is not about "I only like rallies when they benefit me or my bracket" like Ulti likes to keep postulating, so can we please stop trying to go down that road? Okay let me codify my thoughts on rallying: I don't mind rallying that I can't really notice. As much as Nick hyped up his rallying, votals in CT matches were not that high. In fact it is evident to me that CT's votes rose because of SSB matches the same day more than anything CT itself did, judging by the day one results of the contest which got a mere 38k or so votes. Clearly no big, bad rallies going on there. I also don't mind counter rallies once another game has rallied (see: CT vs SSB) because at that point the seal is broken. I also don't mind small rallies in general, actually to make things more interesting. See Starcraft vs ME2 which had back and forth rallies all day that made an already debated match really fun to watch. It was really fun to watch and very amusing. What I do mind: Rallies that just break the contest, although Undertale's pattern of having to go deeper and deeper into the well is at least more interesting than Draven. It's probably going to win it all, but it at least has the good manners to tease us before it does. So I don't like the Undertale rally, but I am amused by the nature of it enough not to get mad or anything. And finally stuff where naturally strong games on here (like SSB) rally hardcore to beat a game that was clearly going to 60-40 it in CT. That just feels... dirty to me. Maybe its because I was really interested to see what CT had in it vs FF7. If it could go to the well enough and really make noise. Instead we get bulls***. It got absorbed within the natural fluctuations in the matches imo. My whole stance is like... If CT can't even counter rally past Melee which is apparently weak, I just don't see it possibly beating Undertale or OOT's rallies so that whole bit about CTs championship chances being ruined by melee rallies specifically doesn't really hold water with me. I can understand being pissed at Melee in the moment though. Anyway, thanks Chris, that's kinda the answer I was seeking, and Leon, I understand your frustration and I apologize for aggravating you. Rallies has taken away a lot of great matches from us at this point, that's my main issue. RBY vs. SMW/SM64 CT vs. FFVII and winner of that against OoT Those were some of the most hyped this when this started and hope. I don't mind rallying very much in small amounts, but it's no fun when they completely take over. I support counterrallies, because they're attempts to even things out, even if that never works. So basically, what has already been said. --- My old signature was really outdated. I haven't thought of a proper new one yet. |

This
is a good all around result. MM was competitive, which maybe helped by
Tumblr spillover, and Ocarina put up a solid number. I'm still surprised
LTTP isn't stronger, but I guess that actually depends on how it holds

know what's funny though is despite the calls for stats analysis having
been ruined, we have a lot of b8ers on the leaderboard including the
guru cookie. I think the effects of undertale have been a little
overstated on placement for prizes. Unless ten people picked undertale
to win it all and are sitting 90 points back just waiting to shoot up

Ocarina is making the entire bottom half of the division look like
absolute garbage. Even with the spillover, I was hoping SotN would put
up a better fight than this. It laughed its way through the competition

Chris's
point about Undertale making these comebacks is good. If it spotted

I think there were a lot of little things Allen did to make sure we didn't have an all-FF quarterfinals, or all-Zelda quarterfinals or Mario or whatever. FFVII and VI, ALttP and MM (and the winner having to meet OoT), MW and Mario 3 (and the winner meeting Mario 64), and MGS1 and MGS3 were persumably all put into the same divisions in order to cannibalize each other. There's that aspect of it, and then there's the fact that the bottom half was supposed to be a safe haven, where all the non-Nintendo/Square elites could duke it out amongst themselves. --- Video game companies don't care about you, so stop kissing their asses |
