Is it already a loss? I would definitely categorize this one as too close to call still.

oh man I just realized regardless of what happens we can turn it into "plucky underdog Zelda"

LTTP shakes off a big early deficit and wins

Majora FLIPS THE ZELDA HIERARCHY

how do these plucky underdogs do it

You mean REDEFINES the Zelda hierarchy!

This is becoming clearer and clearer. Majora's Mask want merely acting as a proxy for Ocarina of Time. It is legitimately viewed as being Ocarina of Time 2, the sequel that wasn't quite as good as the first but was still really, really good.

It's not a loss either way. I actually still kinda like LTTP, but Majora isn't going down without a fight.

Reminding me a lot of FFX/Majora, actually, where FFX just couldn't seem to get Majora to collapse for hours. Eventually it did, but didn't do it quickly enough in the end so it could have built up enough of a lead to stave off the comeback!

People like contests. They're fun.

(And they don't take them much less seriously than they do, regardless of what they claim)

OoT will win, no doubt about it (fair as well).
And I like 3D Zelda games more than 2D Zelda games, but choosing between MM and ALttP is still very hard.. MM it is...

Our hourly percentages actually don't look strange at all. LTTP actually looks like it's gaining ground pretty fast! The problem is, (1) there were so many votes in the power hour compared to now that the lead built up then is big relative to the gains now, and (2) there are so few votes coming in that the variance is huge, so we keep getting these MM stalls and spikes. The big LTTP cuts are seen as harbingers of LTTP's rise, but they are really more variance than anything else.

LTTP by the hour:

1:00 | 46.87%
2:00 | 50.49%
3:00 | 51.25%
4:00 | 51.34%
5:00 | 52.32%

Also, being on the West Coast for these contests is weird. I find myself not sure what time to quote, Pacific or Eastern. And whereas before, staying up to watch the first 5 hours of a match was a really big deal, now it's uneventful and I'm rather shocked that we've gotten past 5 AM in contest time already.

Well I think the unexpected closeness of LTTP and MM has been a refreshing change of pace.

To me it feels pretty safe to say that LTTP will establish a lead and keep it, but I honestly can't be sure.

Being on the west coast and having a horrific sleep schedule I now get to watch the first 7 or 8 hours of the match!

I love having the polls start at 9PM. It would feel weird having to have them start at midnight, or if we want to turn the clock back, 3AM.

Like I keep thinking, it's no big deal that MM has the lead, it was a paltry 600 vote super frontloaded lead, LTTP will start powering through as soon as the true night vote sets in and then we'll get big cuts. Then I look at the updater and realize most of the night vote is already gone.

I also have a hard time comprehending that the gap between BGE1 in 2004 and BGE2 in 2009 was actually shorter in chronological time than between BGE2 and this contest. It felt like so much changed in contestland between the first two games contests, and we've had very little activity since the second.

I think we could actually cut the power of rallying a significant amount by starting the matches at midnight Pacific again. Right now, ralliers have two big timeframes to rally - at the start of the poll, and again in the afternoon/evening. By starting the match 3 hours later you can pull the rug out of the first wave of rallying.

If people are foolish enough to post Reddit threads at midnight Pacific, that is especially deadly to the rally, as there will be a much smaller number of votes from the people still online at that hour, but Reddit will still put their rally post on the clock, and it will slide down the list by the time the daytime peak hours come.

Of course, the daytime wave of a successful rally will be stronger than it would be if there had been a night wave first, but the overall effect should still be to reduce the power of the rally. With Tumblr it will matter less than most things, because the first wave rally is not nearly as strong as the afternoon wave.

spillover or not, lttp is going 50/50 with super metroid. that is just insane. ct projects to nearly double lttp. ocarina is going to murder this division winner, possibly worse than it beat ff9. maaaan.

lttp should take this if majora's morning vote is like it was against super metroid, but wow.

2nd match=What is going on here? Is there a rally for MM?

I am confused about the 2nd match. Anyone care to explain?

Looks like a combo of a spillover preference for MM and the gap between the two being much smaller than we though (or rSFF if you believe in that)

LTTP/MM - 23070

Yes, more than 6 hours in, we are still ahead of CT/SSBM by more than 300 votes. By this point, Melee had already rallied over 5000 votes.

That is the power of the spillover. That is the power of Undertale.

What's wrong with the world these days is people don't have any common sense.
You know, even if MM is leading only because the rally spillover gave it a head start, the fact that it's keeping it this close is impressive
Didn't people said it would be a blowout in favor of LTTP?

Based on 2009, Ocarina is supposed to get more than 75% here. I don't know if there are any hidden numbers in those stats, but yeah Ocarina is off. This is a poll where it should be godstomping given three Zelda games on one day, and even then it's not doing it.

Based on the 2009 poll where Chrono Trigger got 72% on SOTN? Some kind of weird CT/SOTN SFF has been talked about for a while......since we needed an explanation for why Mario 64 didn't do any better after Yoshi's Island was removed and replaced with a combo of Goldeneye and FFVII.
