ZFS posted... I still stand that Ocarina of Time carries weight at almost every corner of the Internet. There is no consensus 'best game ever,' but Ocarina of Time is about the closest thing there is. But Zelda will have some pretty significant rallies going for it, too. Link that faced Draven would have crushed any other Link in any other year, so I wouldn't expect the OOT in the final to be a 'normal' champion tier competitor. I mean Undertale, honestly and realistically probably still wins because Tumblr's ability to catch fire at any point is scary and gross, but I would definitely give it way more of a shot than anything left. It being a final match means something these others don't, I think. Link the Draven slayer was the underdog. He was behind in the poll the whole time. Zelda fans were rallying hard. When grand finals comes up OoT will be winning by a comfortable margin and lull them into a false sense of security. It'll do its thing, put up a 10k barrier and then lower its defenses. Then Undertale goes Super Saiyan 5 on its ass and chops that barrier in a few hours. By then there'll be a couple hours left at the height of Undertale's strenght, most likely too late for OOT to do anything. I can see the future! |

ZFS posted... But really, to take a step back -- it is disappointing that these things are now determined by one-sided rallies. For the GameFAQs admins, this is naturally no issue, but if you're a contest fan it does feel pretty bad! Not upsetting, just kinda like oh that's how these come to an end sort of thing. Actually this makes me pretty excited for future contests. I think I'm gonna take a flier on a rallyable game/character in the next context and see if I get lucky. The constant infusion of newcomers is the best way to keep these things unpredictable. We already have a good read on what gamefaqs thinks. Predicting which fanbase is going to be loyal enough to touch off a rallystorm is much more interesting. |

The site banner should help out OoT because it would be bringing in a lot of extra voters (generally people visiting the site for the first time) who know nothing about Undertale's path to the finals. Those voters should be expected to vote for OoT over Undertale at a higher split than the normal GameFAQs voters who have followed the contest pretty closely. We need to keep this in mind over the next week. The last few hours have convinced me that Melee/FF7 have no hope agaisnt Undertale. Undertale
is a worst case scenario for counterrallies due to how backloaded
tumblr is. No one is going to want to continue their rallying all day if
it appears to be a supposed 55-45 win until the tumblr afternoon vote
kicks in and shellshocks the fanbase with Draven level votes. Had Undertale repeated its early hours performance against SMW on RBY, Pokemon fans would be trying harder to rally. |

We've been getting increased GameFAQs votals every round, so we'll guess that it goes up to 55k. But with the site banner that round the numbers will be way higher, lets guess 80k. A 75-25 split means that Ocarina would be 40k votes ahead in the GameFAQs population (60k over 20k). Whereas Tumblr has proven it can rally 45k votes, and maybe 55k today depending on how the numbers shake out. And if Pokemon really only had a 20% backfire rate, I can't assume OoT would get any higher. Meaning if they go HAM and rally 70k votes for the finals, they gain 32k votes (56k over 14k). Meaning OoT wins by 8k votes. But there are a lot of unknowns. Will Zelda fans keep up the rallies long enough to hold off Undertale's comeback? Exactly how many votes will the site banner bring? Do those numbers underestimate Undertale? Or overestimate them, since a lot of the Pokemon rallies backfired due to Gen 1 hate? (Which won't happen to OoT to that degree). I don't know. I can only promise that despite how dominant Undertale has been with its comebacks, OoT is going to be a crazy final boss fight. --- Every day the rest of your life is changed forever. |

This is true. It also doesn't help opponents that Undertale seems like a nobody to rally against for pretty much anybody besides us following the contest. Undertale gets to really play up the underdog-card by going against some of the biggest series around and making comebacks happen every time. It'll be tough to convince LoZ:OoT-fans that they're the underdog against an indie game released this past September. Then again, HM's right too: LoZ:OoT-fans don't need to underdog complex to show up in force for the championship, and it won't be hard to find them anywhere either. I was once pretty mixed on him. I thought he was very fake, and his behavior against Demian Maia was awful. But when he was on, he was the most entertaining MMA fighter ever. I was there at UFC 101, rooting for Forrest - my guy lost but it was legendary!! I had to applaud him after that. I miss his glory days. Basically we're relying on the semi-final match on Sunday where there is no ASV-trend, so either it gains early in the match to make people really try to rally for its opponent. Which honestly would only work if it's up against Melee as I don't see FFVII get rallied at all. Or because it's a weekend people just forget because they're doing other things, which I really don't see happening.
