If Undertale does get a cut before we reach the later part of the night vote, it will have to happen soon. The rally is going to die off overnight and Pokemon will be able to use that time period to build up its lead again.

I'm still giving Pokemon a sliver of a chance here, but it needs to pray for a specific set of circumstances - namely, that this bigger opening salvo has dipped into Undertale's finite vote pool and will result in a weaker Undertale day vote, and that Pokemon rallies will intensify later on.

But man, it's hard to see that ray of light when you look at Undertale's past results and take in the ferocity of its comeback. We're talking about a three thousand vote lead right now. It beat Mario World by almost ten.

I will say one thing, some people have been very diligently DOWN-voting the threads on reddit. You have to go back quite a few pages to find them now. There were 3 threads with some +40 votes a couple hours ago that are sitting around +10 votes (or less) now.

And then new threads get made (presumably to get one to higher +vote totals) but it seems like some people are getting annoyed at all the threads.

Maybe pokemon will benefit from the subreddit getting fed up with the gamefaqs threads and removing them.

Or perhaps they will just sticky a thread about it and remove the rest and increase the rally potential from reddit :/

Has reposted both of the major rallies. Interestingly, it looks like reposing the second one was what really picked things up. It had already reposted the first one a bit ago and it didn't seem to have as much of an effect. Although now that first one seems to be surging ahead in notes, so who knows.

I saw it use the Undertale rally to go from 52 to 62 against SMB3, and then hang nearly 80% on Sonic. It was being helped almost as much as Undertale itself! I simply looked at the nature of (what I perceived to be) the average Tumblr user and saw someone who liked Pokemon a LOT, and the earlier matches clearly indicated that. I was wrong, but I don't think I was being illogical.

Interestingly, it seems as if the solely Undertale devoted blogs tend to give off huge bursts of votes, but then die off rapidly as well, not spreading the rally as much.

I think you're taking the wrong conclusion from that - you're not being illogical in thinking the average tumblr user likes Pokemon a lot. They clearly do! This is probably the highest backfire rate it'll have except mayyyyyyyyybe against OoT, though I still don't expect it to be very high in the grand scheme of things.

But when you're being explicitly rallied to vote for Undertale and you're primed to vote, you may not even notice - or care - about the big POKEMON next to the game you've already implicitly agreed to vote for by clicking on the link. Rallied voters from pretty much anywhere are very droneish, overriding what would be even their natural proclivities to a very large degree.

The problem is that rallied voters are so strongly primed to vote for what they're being asked to vote for. I'm sure if a neutral BGE thread was floating around gamefaqs a ton of them would vote for Pokemon (well, at least if this rally had never taken off), but now they're part of a bigger campaign.

I think it's a mistake to measure backlash in terms of how many of the rallied vote for Pokemon instead. Far more probably simply don't vote or, more importantly, don't reblog.

Right, it's the reblog that causes the rallies to have a spider-web effect. Reaching increasingly more people as the news gets seen by new fresh eyes.

I don't know how many notes the UT rallies had during the SMW match at this point though so I don't know how to judge how "successful" these are comparitively.

I think one of them had in the 15-20k note range and another two or three had ~5k

Of course, some of the same people could have liked/reblogged multiple and both likes and reblogs count as notes, so those numbers are inflated by some factor of order 2

Probably better to try tomorrow so it doesn't get lost in the middle of the night. Early though in case in takes them a while to respond.

Undertale's getting steadily over 200 votes per update. It was not doing that well in any of its previous matches. Impressive that Pokemon's actually holding up so well. I presume it's getting rallied too?

imagineyouricon. Almost every major push in the past rounds has coincided with them reblogging a rally.

They posted a rally link ~20 minutes ago. They don't make posts frequently, and the ones they do are fairly small, so it tends to stay at the top a while. They did have the decency to make a bunch of posts after it this time though so it got shoved down the page!

It has a sizable hold in almost every single "problematic" fanbase (MLP, Homestuck, Furries, SU). So quite a lot of votes to draw from.
Ugh no luck on reestablishing the 3000 vote barrier

Oh never mind, they just reposted another rally to make up for it!

Edit: It is interesting though, that falling down the page that like had such a drastic effect. Pokemon started gaining again as soon as the rally post went below the fold, and Undertale didn't start gaining again until they posted the new rally at the top.
