I can't believe you've gone from the Pokemon guy to the Undertale guy. That's some Ultimate Sith transition

As a diehard Melee fan, I'm still not sure it should go over VII. Never played VII myself, but Melee for all of its strong points has big weaknesses too such as roster imbalance, limited stages and such. As great as it is, it's definitely not for everyone. I've heard that VII is a legend that changed RPGs forever (like Pokemon did but in a different way). So, I'm not sure I'm exactly cheering on Melee even if I'm fine if it won.
I was only ever the Pokemon guy in that I was the only guy in the stats topic willing to give Pokemon the time of day!

At least until it continuously beat everyone into submission over the years. Why bother at this point?

Undertale in the finals might be the only thing that could get me to vote OoT in the finals.

Just for the record, I have an awful record when it comes to voting for the winner in a final.

Pretty sure the last time it happened was...The Villains Contest?

Yep, 10 years.

I do not own UT. But I've seen multiplay playthroughs on both youtube and twitch. I am probably not alone in a growing culture of watching other people play games as a form of entertainment.

My enjoyment of UT through other players was not enough to get me to pick it over pokemon, mind you, but it would have probably earned my vote against some lesser games.

I just think it's worth remembering that sales are not the final word in measuring a game's exposure and audience size.

I totally get that, I watch hours of twitch daily, but this isn't exactly a big twitch game. It has less viewers than Osu or ironically, Pokemon ORAS right now. Maybe there's a huge YouTube audience I'm unaware of, but prior to this contest I had no idea that this was any different than any other somewhat popular indie game.

RBY is in a much better position than SMW ever was. If it keeps this up, it could have a 6k vote lead by the morning.

That would not be enough to stop the typical Undertale vote swing, but if the much-vaunted Backfire Rate (tm) pays off and it gets some rallies of its own, it could happen.

Black Turtle did a pretty good job.
But we've already concluded that the BFR is a lie!

Pokemon's only hope is a slew of strong counterrallies (or Undertale's inexplicably collapsing)

R/B/Y's biggest advantage is that the vote totals are higher than ever. How much of that is coming from within and how much of that is coming from rallies is anybody's guess at this stage. If it's Tumblr stepping up its game more than anything else, it won't really matter.

Black Turtle did a pretty good job.
Here's the point where SMW, over the course of about three hours, was able to stem the bleeding, actually increase in percentage, and add an extra thousand votes to its lead. Let's see if Pokemon can manage some of the same.

And actually, I've learned that a Pokemon win means winning the contest is impossible for me, so go Undertale! aaahhh feels so good to root against the stupid Pokemon again

I assume the site wide banner won't go up until the semifinals at the earliest, but I will try to talk Allen into starting the site banner in the quarterfinals instead.

The site wide banner did not appear to have any effect on vote totals, but there's a really good reason for that. During the 2013 contest, all of the plain text FAQ pages had a site header that was incompatible with the site wide banner. So if someone landed on a plain text FAQ from a Google search result, they didn't see the site banner. This wasn't an issue with Formatted (HTML) FAQs, which had the normal site header that you see on almost every page on the site. At some point after the 2013 contest, Allen made it so all plain text FAQs now have the same site header that normally appears on other pages.

League is probably the most popular game in the world, so the Draven stuff made sense. But this is just so bizarre.

Actually, it wouldn't surprise me. Undertale fans are super intense and half of them heard of it through tumblr.

But remember that Undertale is a PC game, hence rampant piracy (and DRM free, to boot), and that it's a darling of Let's Players. Its sales figures dramatically underestimate its strength.

Who the hell would pirate a ten dollar game from an indie dev?

It's mainly a YouTube audience. A few big names have done a play through. (Steam Train, Cry and Russ, jacksepticeye) Markiplier also did some videos but presumably dropped the series.
