just saw the match results since last night, and what the heck
happened? Have people been rallying SSBM all day? I wanted to see Chrono
Trigger continue on and have more legitimate matches. Everyone was in

Melee/CT
was holding serve with Undertale/SMW in votes early on. Melee is more
than capable of winning as it will have much longer to build up a lead
compared to SMW. Their own rally will also prevent Undertale from going
too crazy once their engine is at full speed and might make the match
more climatic. God help us all if Undertale starts pulling ahead. The awful s*** that was posted during SMW will be nothing compared to the Melee match. |

If Undertale struggles to beat Pokemon, it should beat Melee...but it will probably be another struggle. Melee should have a lower backfire rate but might have more rallying ability. Why
does everyone like today's CT pic? I mean, it might be a memorable
moment but I think a picture of Frog, Crono, and Magus posing would've

But to be fair, this does show that CT was never going to beat Undertale or Pokemon since both of those would be rallied pretty heavily when they started losing. So might as well get it over with now :/ And since OoT getting to the final is a foregone conclusion, maybe a bonus match of CT vs. FF7 would be a reasonable thing for Allen to run. At that point it would be pure site strength, plus carryover from the final (and none of the melee/pokemon/undertale fanbases are going to be severely biased one way or the other). The only effect from the final would be Zelda fans anti-voting FF7. That could be a really fun bonus match. --- Every day the rest of your life is changed forever. |

FF7 has won a contest before. It getting a bit stronger than before is only cool if you're a fan of the game I'm not even a huge fan of CT but watching it hulk up was amazing. Especially considering everything else in the contest outside of Undertale has been cookie cutter as all hell. And then, yeah. --- Black Turtle did a pretty good job. |
The
problem with the Pokémon picture, besides being aesthetically and
objectively awful (badly-resized sprites, colors that make your eyes
bleed, sprites from FRLG and not the original) is that it doesn't play
up the nostalgia which is the asset RBY has over the other muuuch
weaker Pokémon games. The small silver lining is that this might make
Tumblr more likely to vote Pokémon, but it could also make GameFAQs less

really does deserve better. Next contest, it deserves a safer bracket
placement, maybe among other older games or just obscure ones, to avoid

Even
if Undertale loses at this point, all it means is that Ocarina of Time
will probably be able to put down bad performance after bad performance
on every individual opponent it faces for the rest of the contest and
STILL be able to walk its way past the finals without remotely
struggling even once. Since Pokemon RBY and Melee will have taken out
its strongest opponents (CT, FFVII, Undertale) in ways that Ocarina
couldn't necessarily pull off but they likely won't be able to hold up
at all directly against OoT's SFF and probably pretty large backfire
rate against their rallies. I can't believe that's what a single person would have wanted out of this contest. It wouldn't necessarily be the worst end result for anyone but it definitely would be the worst result for everyone. So yeah, thanks to the Melee rally, there's no hope for me in even the possibility of Undertale losing. I mean, let's break this down. Division 1: Chrono Trigger and chalk. Divison 2: Chalk. I'm pretty the old match here that happened different from the Guru consensus was a R1 match in ME1/SMG2. Division 3: Undertale and chalk. Division 4: Chalk. Pretty sure every guru favorite won every match here. Division 5: Actually a bit interesting! DKC2 did some upsets, FF9 proved itself. Unfortunately their matches didn't mean too much in the grand scheme of things. Division 6: Despite the best efforts of Super Metroid...still pretty much chalk. Division 7: Incredibly debated pre-contest. Ended up being perfectly in line with every guru favored pick. Maybe SMRPG can beat RE4, woo? Divison 8: Even if MGS3 wins the division, still basically chalk. Outside of Chrono Trigger and Undertale this contest has been boring. There's almost no upsets or exciting matches and in general it's just old games pounding on new ones and a re-affirming of the status quo. I've enjoyed it a lot because I've gotten to converse with people on B8 and the livecast and gotten to go and the Show and such, but without that social element this contest blows. Chrono Trigger was the shining beacon of hope this contest needed. It wasn't a rally, it wasn't the status quo. It was a game boosting to high heaven out of nowhere and putting on results that made it look like our new #1. After years and years of Crono getting abused, it was the narrative this contest needed. Even if Undertale was probably going to stop it, we were at least going to see it flex its muscles against FF7. Not anymore. --- Black Turtle did a pretty good job. I'm
not going to rule out the possibility of Melee winning against
Undertale after it theoretically wins against Pokemon. Smashboards has
some real serious rally potential and its voters are way less likely to
vote for Undertale than anyone coming from tumblr to vote for Pokemon. Undertale is definitely going to have to earn every victory between here and final boss OoT. --- Every day the rest of your life is changed forever. |
