GameFAQs Contests
Contest Stats and Discussion - Part 1237
That
poll got 23,000 votes in 24 hours. This one already has 15,000 in less
than 4 hours. It's a different sample size and the poll actually matters
now. --- http://i.imgur.com/3DwCNLJ.gif |

LordoftheMorons posted... That makes sense. Isn't the pro Smash scene really US-centric? Yeah, it is very US centric. Europe is the second biggest scene but it doesn't really compare. --- www.twitch.tv/Hylian88 www.twitter.com/Hylian88 |
The
last 15 minutes, this poll gained 155 votes on the OOT/FFIX poll. The
rally is slowing down, but it's still pulling in 50 votes per update. --- September 1, 2003; November 4, 2007; September 2, 2013 NEVER FORGET. |
Smash gets its first update below 100 votes, and gains 2 votes. --- September 1, 2003; November 4, 2007; September 2, 2013 NEVER FORGET. |
pro Smash scenes is definitely US-centric. Folks on the Gfaqs Melee boards have had something to do with the rallies, though I don't think it's just us. I don't have a horse in this race per se. I love both games and I've never been too into the polls. Interesting to read what y'all think about this rally. --- I like this guy - Shiny Mewtwo |
Almost 7 AM in Brazil. Hope that 82% for CT there holds up! --- September 1, 2003; November 4, 2007; September 2, 2013 NEVER FORGET. |
MaskedSheik posted... pro Smash scenes is definitely US-centric. If undertale didnt exist i would want chrono to win because i want to see the strongest games win. Melee winning would only serve the purpose of taking down undertale --- http://k09.kn3.net/1256263BF.gif |
For
what it's worth, the rally is still the top thread on the Smash reddit,
though there are only 1100 people there now (versus ~2500 when Melee
was in a frenzy). Melee can probably do this with that reddit topic
alone - assuming it doesn't get deleted - though I'm hoping it blows its
full wad with Smash Boards and pro tweets here so it might be less
likely to get that kind of support against FFVII. --- http://i.imgur.com/gByqgPg.gif |
Lol pro smash. That's like being pro Mario Party or pro Mario Kart. --- Ngamer64: Zylo, you're making less sense every day. Raytan > Me |

If we somehow get Melee > CT followed by FFVII > Melee, then my bracket is somewhat saved but dammit no not like this this was CT's moment i don't even really believe that OoT can save us there is nothing but despair now --- xp1337: Don't you wish there was a spell-checker that told you when you a word out? |

afaik
none of the big Melee guys have talked about the contest yet. My guess
is that if Mew2King (likely) or Mango (unlikely but very popular) get
involved on Twitter/Twitch, we'll see another mini-rally. --- I like this guy - Shiny Mewtwo |
4 AM Eastern, 1 AM Pacific Chrono Trigger by the Hour: 1:00 | 55.22% | +669 2:00 | 44.25% | -583 3:00 | 44.15% | -435 4:00 | 46.12% | -208 OOT/FFIX - 13159 Undertale/SMW - 18130 CT/SSBM - 17887 Votes above OOT/FFIX: 4728 We gained an additional 807 votes above the OOT/FFIX match in the last hour, but we've fallen behind the pace of the Undertale/SMW match. --- September 1, 2003; November 4, 2007; September 2, 2013 NEVER FORGET. that was all a Chrono Trigger spike counter-rally? this is getting interesting |
Looking
at the map, Melee has finally managed to flip the UK into its column,
but trails badly across the rest of Europe. Melee is trying very hard
to reach 55% in the US, but isn't quite there. It has, however, just
hit an even 60% in the State of California. --- September 1, 2003; November 4, 2007; September 2, 2013 NEVER FORGET. |
LeonhartFour posted... That poll got 23,000 votes in 24 hours. This one already has 15,000 in less than 4 hours. It's a different sample size and the poll actually matters now. It's also not the sample size that matters, but last year's poll had a poll question tied to it. Unlike a contest match where you don't have a poll question to deal with. The poll question for last year's poll asked you which game was better, which is something that requires playing both games to make an educated decision on a poll like that. This means the poll was basically limited to those who have played both games. People tend to be a lot more honest in a regular poll than a contest match and they weren't going to vote if they haven't played both games. Those who have played only one of the games were far less likely to vote, while it was extremely unlikely someone votes in that poll without playing either game. There might be some truth to that theory based on the trends of that poll, since FFVII couldn't even pull off a 55% hour overnight during its best time, which suggests a lot of the Europeans weren't voting in the poll since FFVI wasn't released there and thus were unlikely to have played both games. Vote totals on that poll were also about 8000 votes less than the large 14-way poll. Contest matches work differently, as people vote even if they have only played one of the games listed in the match. And thanks to bracket voting, people can even vote without playing either game. --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as raytan7585, Guru Champ! |
I
would be very interested to see what the US percentage is excluding
California, which is at 60% and I'm guessing contains a much higher
share of the votes right now than its 1/8 share of the US population,
due to the poll starting at 9 PM on the West Coast. --- September 1, 2003; November 4, 2007; September 2, 2013 NEVER FORGET. |
Also
the Melee scene is specifically bigger in California than any other
state. Though I dunno how much that actually correlates with
r/smashbros. --- RIP in Pieces GamerJM, 2007-2015. You will be missed. #UnPermabanJim (edited 12/7/2015 1:21:39 AM)report |
4:30 AM OOT/FFIX - 14034 Undertale/SMW - 19394 CT/SSBM - 19062 Extra Votes: 5028 We are now more than 5000 votes ahead of OOT's match, and a little over 300 behind Undertale's. We picked up another 300 on the OOT match in the last half hour, so the rally is still going at the pace of 50 votes per update. --- September 1, 2003; November 4, 2007; September 2, 2013 NEVER FORGET. |
Fun matches and interesting results but most importantly can we please stop referring to Smash players as 'pros'. |
No
matter your feelings on Smash as a serious game, there are people who
earn a living playing Smash, and I would suggest that "pro" is what we
call these people. --- I like this guy - Shiny Mewtwo |

No, it's still going at about 50 votes/update, or about 35 net. If not for the rally, CT would be making big gains right now. --- September 1, 2003; November 4, 2007; September 2, 2013 NEVER FORGET. |

Cut
#2, 45 minutes after the first. I think CT's best hope at this point
is the morning, to take advantage of natural Gamefaqs vote intake going
back up. --- September 1, 2003; November 4, 2007; September 2, 2013 NEVER FORGET. |
Well at least I have proof that I really do hate rallying even if it's for games I love. Thought maybe it was just because I didn't care about Undertale or Draven, but nope. I love Melee but still feels bad. --- http://i498.photobucket.com/albums/rr345/Rakaputra/B8%20Girls%202012/pjbas.png LongLiveraytan |
How
do y'all think this will pan out overall? As stated before, Melee's
popularity is largely US-centric, and presumably a lot of the Cali votes
just happened during the present rally. It sounds reasonable to expect
Chrono Trigger to gain back on Melee as the US sleeps, perhaps with some
manner of counter-rally (what kinds of community hubs are there for
Chrono Trigger/JRPGs in general?), and then at some point Melee will
reawaken with another rally, largely capturing the central and east
coast folks in North America. Something like that? It's still quite
close despite the rally, do y'all think Chrono Trigger will fight it
back? --- I like this guy - Shiny Mewtwo |
RPGs
are not easy to rally for. CT will probably win if there are no further
rallies (since it's naturally stronger), but it can't really do
anything to fight back. --- I don't know how much you know about women, but Dr. Pizza is an expert. - The Mana Sword |
5 AM Eastern, 2 AM Pacific CT strings together 2 cuts in a row to end the hour. Chrono Trigger by the Hour: 1:00 | 55.22% | +669 2:00 | 44.25% | -583 3:00 | 44.15% | -435 4:00 | 46.12% | -208 5:00 | 48.94% | -68 OOT/FFIX - 14866 Undertale/SMW - 20586 CT/SSBM - 20145 Votes above OOT/FFIX: 5281 The last half hour, we picked up.....253 on the Ocarina match. Rally is still chugging along, at 40-50 votes per update, 30-40 net. --- September 1, 2003; November 4, 2007; September 2, 2013 NEVER FORGET. |
My
jaw dropped when I saw the poll, then I saw the numbers and realised
there was heavy rallying. I see it was 60/40 (maybe higher - Melee
should do best in the power hour) without intervention, which is about
what I expected. --- We are living our lives Abound with so much information |
Wait Melee is getting rallied? --- "Nothing I could do!" -Darksydephil |
I can't get angry when this rally may be the sole responsible for me winning the guru challenge. |
Btw who is even rallying melee? |
Huh apparently I'll be #1 in the guru after today if Melee wins Rallies are still lame --- I don't know how much you know about women, but Dr. Pizza is an expert. - The Mana Sword |
I
don't even care much. I haven't played either of these games in ages
and have next to no idea which one I like more anyway. As much as you
can compare an RPG to a fighting game. Voted for Chrono Trigger because I've played it more recently. --- "Nothing I could do!" -Darksydephil |
Not clear, no one's owned up to it. Possible it's just a Smash fan. The rally is on reddit. --- I don't know how much you know about women, but Dr. Pizza is an expert. - The Mana Sword |
Based
on OOT/FFIX, there are about 36,000 natural Gamefaqs votes left in the
poll. If those split 60/40 for Chrono Trigger, that is a net swing of
7200 votes. SSBM is up about 600, so it needs to rally around 6600
more, net, over the rest of the match to win. Assuming CT would be at 60% right now naturally with the number of votes from the OOT match, CT would have a lead of 2973; thus, Melee's rally has already gained around 3600 net, for around 84% of the extra votes. That would require Melee to rally an additional 9700 votes or so total to make up the 6600 net it needs- a little less than double what it's done in the first 5 hours of this poll. --- September 1, 2003; November 4, 2007; September 2, 2013 NEVER FORGET. |
