I'm
not going to definitively say ME2 would smash Bioshock at the rate of
how bad it's looking, whatever the circumstances. Maybe Smash 4 boosted
between rounds, whatever, unexpected upsets happen. That's why we play

I like that picture of Harbinger (with Shep cropped out), it was my avatar elsewhere for quite some time. But unless you played Arrival or really kept your eyes open throughout the series, there isn't a lot for the casual player of ME2 to latch onto. Not that it would be winning or anything with this kind of a shellacking; MGS1 is at a disadvantage too and it's doing fine. --- Goddamn Ocarina of Time |
Silent
Hill 2 being as pitifully weak it was in the older contests compared to
how well it's regarded and how RE1 and 2 are decent midcarders strikes

going on there. It's not really your fault, per se. Just an issue with

That the amount of casual voters in any given match is high; Even our strongest games like ff7 have a "game completion" rate of only 50%. And 2. it's more than just playrate and SSB has something that attracts slightly more casual voters than FF. SSB4 has an ownership rate of like 20% yet it can still crush opponents with 80% of the vote. There has to be other factors like marketing, reputation, critical reception, franchise name, etc. I'm arguing ssb4 has a large chunk of casual voters who haven't played either game in the poll who favour it as kind of a proxy for SSB, because they probably assume it plays pretty similarly to melee and brawl even if they haven't played that particular edition yet so they figure that's as good a reason as any to vote for it vs a game they haven't even played. Or they just like Nintendo characters. How I look at it is ME has higher core strength than ssb4 but lower casual strength than ssb4 and ff7. I'll do some math to demonstrate my theory. Let's say core strength among people who have played it and will always vote for it: 10% ssb4 10% planescape 20% me1 40% ff7 But let's say among remaining voters who don't feel strongly about either game and would consider voting for it, the average casual voter rate would be: 80% ssb4 15% planescape 50% me 70% ff7 So against ME, ssb4 splits the remaining 70% of casual voters 80/(80+50)=61%. Final Result: 61%*70% + 10%= 53% Against ff7 casual strength would be 80/(80+70)=. 53%. Result. 53%*50%+10% = 36% Against planescape 80/(80+15)=84%. Result: 84%*80%+10%= 77.4% The casual numbers make sense to me. There's really not another good reason why ME, with something like over double the playrate of ssb4, to lose to ssb4, or for ssb4 to put up 35% when ff7 triples its playrate. It won't ever be exact math unfortunately. And this also shows that ff7 isn't really underperforming, it still has high core support that will show up in any match and draws high numbers of casual voters against fodder, but losing out very slightly to them against another casual vote draw pulls the percentage down a lot. --- http://www.last.fm/user/VinnyMendoza "This is all we have... when we die.."
