polls deep within threads were pulling down a couple hundred votes a pop
despite having no purpose whatsoever, and they were all at least 2:1 in

skimming through the whole topic since I missed it, one thing that
sticks out to me is the discussion about Board 8's behavior this time
around. Is it just me or does this feel kinda unwarranted? Draven was one thing, but this time I genuinely feel like the negativity/whining is coming from either the handful of usual suspects, obvious trolls, people trying to make the board look bad on purpose, and people who aren't even regulars who are just stopping by. It's not like Board 8 regulars are "embarrassing" the board or anything as far as I can tell so I feel like all this "dammit board 8" stuff is pretty unwarranted. There's absolutely nothing we can do to make this point to anyone from the outside because they're not going to see/care about this kind of explanation but I feel like we should know better. --- xp1337: Don't you wish there was a spell-checker that told you when you a word out? some people find this fun? I guess the laughing at us who don't like
this can be fun but having a proper contest is so much better, it's sad
because since social media will not disappear we will never have a

got another contests yeah, but it took 2 years and a totally different
format to happen. It's probably too inside baseball, but I kinda wonder
what the higher ups think of these things and at what point they decide

That
post Allen linked to doesn't have too many retweets or likes or
comments, relatively speaking. Find it hard to believe it's the main

The higher ups are happy if a contest brings in a ton of new users, even if it's just for a few days. We're the only ones who view that as unholy. --- Black Turtle did a pretty good job. |

If by higher ups you mean sure owners, I doubt they care. And I don't see contests stopping. Before people used to say they were too predictable. Now the winners come from nowhere because our votals suck, but L-Block came from nowhere too in a time of heavy votes. There's
a good chance I'm projecting here but I kind of thought that aside from
giving Board 8 the contest they've demanded for over a decade, the
whole formula thing was designed to help keep LoL out and prevent the
contest from being taken over by a rally. but now we know it can still happen So we can't write Draven/LoL as a fluke or the only thing that could do that. It's certainly possible that the higher-ups simply don't care and the contest is still giving them what they want, but I feel like if you polled Board 8, enthusiasm for another contest would be way down. not "in the biz" so I'm not going to make hard and fast claims, but I
have to imagine burst traffic, while good, is not nearly important as
retention. I'd actually be curious where that tipping point is vs. the

it to the final 8 while almost nothing past the 90s will. |

the amount of people leaving B8 in a huff because 'their contests are
ruined' is going to be a lot less than amount of newcomers and press
GameFAQs is going to get out of this. Both numbers probably won't even
be that large, but yeah. The whole "is this the last contest?" is being discussed from a very Stats Topic perspective. If Undertale doesn't do this thing, no one would even be thinking about it. --- Black Turtle did a pretty good job. |

don't think anyone is upset at the idea of new people coming to the
site. That was the basis of a lot of popular, great contests over the
years. What people don't like is one-sided rallies done in an invasion

That's the result of this contest, but it was totally up in the air beforehand! This contest, minus Undertale, has been fun to follow, though. People say oh only old games win, but a lot of these results have been unexpected one way or another. Just after three rounds you start to make sense of everything and there's generally less surprise. It's why Undertale is what it is -- it's not exciting or fresh, it's as predictable at this point as Zelda in the finals. But that ME3 match? That was crazy. --- satoru iwata |
