It's certainly impressive so far, but I suspect Mario just handled the boost Undertale got from round 2 to 3 pretty well and will still be meeting the same storm later that Fallout did.

Is anyone watching the RBY/Mario anymore?
It didn't change much, but this is also the problem - this is probably RBY natural strength and not undertale rally boost, which makes me wonder..just how weak are Uncharted 2 and Portal 2?
Or how strong is RBY..?

Also the fact RBY is blowing Sonic out this hard makes me feel good for it in round 4.

How much of that is Tumblr people supporting pokemon?
Yeah RBY is impressive, I'd be interested to see how it does against Mario 64 or FF7/Chrono Trigg... oh wait yeah that can't happen now.

Good last update for Mario after dropping to gains of 30ish from the prior couple updates. Guessing the rally is picking back up a bit now though.

It's probably not nearly as much RBY support as you'd expect. I wouldn't expect Sonic 2 to be much stronger, if it even is, than Tetris.

And reddit/4-chan are known as the turds of the internet for good reason. Being better than them is not being "strict", it's being "civilized".

That may sound weird in a place like gameFAQs, but I don't think it's wrong for people to be modded for offending someone. It should happen all the time, instead of 1% of the time like it does now.

This may come as a surprise to you, but free speech is actually the norm on the internet now, not the exception.

No one has called 4chan or Reddit "turds of the internet", not since the days of /b/ ten years ago anyway. If any website is the laughing stock of the internet, it's GameFAQs, the only place on the entire internet that I'm aware of that doesn't allow its users to say "s***".
I lol at all those people lameting this match as if it is the most boring and unexciting match in the contest...

When it's still the most unpredictable match we've had in round 3.

Never change gameFAQS.
Come on, not enough people know about GameFAQs anymore for us to be a laughing stock of the internet

Really.

Welcome to the League of Stickies.
He said so far, which well, only includes like 6 matches

And honestly even FF6 vs. Wind Waker was less predictable than this. At least there was a point early on where Wind Waker showed it might have a bit of a shot.

Oh I know what the norm is.

But you are wrong about three things:

1- gameFAQs is not the most moderated place of the internet. Most places I frequent are more moderated. Granted, I avoid places like Reddit and 4-chan.

2- The fact most people in the internet are jerks doesn't mean that is a good thing.

3- I am almost sure strict moderation is not what gameFAQs is mocked for. It's probably more closely related to the archaic format, the obsolence of the site as a whole, the elitist communities, and the very insular gaming taste.

And you are kidding me if you say people don't mock Reddit and 4-Chan. Weren't you here in the 2013 contest?
(edited 12/1/2015 4:07:54 AM)report
You know, there was a long stretch in FF6/WW where that match looked to be genuinely up in the air. WW's cuts in the Power Hour and stalls in the early night vote were admirable.

Like I said before, unless you think the rally is randomly not going to power up for Undertale this is arguably the least exciting match of the entire round.

Tons of places are more restrictive. In fact, just try making a topic on Smogon and tell me if it gets moderated within a few days.

Sadly, that's probably true.

Two years ago I casually said to a friend I was looking for a walkthrough for a game.

He told me: "Walkthrough? Do you still read those things?"

That's sad.

Days? More like minutes.

Then again, Smogon is not what I'd call a good example. You are more likely getting moderated because you disagreed with the opinion of an old member of the forum than for offending someone.

(TL;DR: Smogon is incredibly elitist)

Is this the rally picking back up or is Mario just crashing for some reason? I suck at reading these updates and want to know how scared I should be when I go to sleep in ten minutes

Undertale's recent updates are insane. SMW is doing roughly the same.

Ctesjbuvf posting on his phone.
I was on a Tottenham forum a few years back with a "CCC" about 5 pages long that you were expected to read and have memorised, that moderated almost anything, and that strictly adhered to a "play the ball, not the man" philosophy which disallowed any kind of personal jibe - which just led to a lot of passive-aggression, because people weren't allowed to say what they actually thought.

"ITK"s - people who claim to know secret news about players being transferred etc but are often attention-seeking grifters who know nothing - were treated as gods and questioning their sources or the information was moddable and bannable, which led to said ITKs becoming primadonnas who "refused to share their info" at the merest hint of an insult. It also led to fake ones and the "legit" ones messing with the community by posting cryptic information rather than legit information.

Place was awful and oppressive. I once got "moderated", read the PM on my phone, but because I didn't respond to it immediately - I wanted to do it when I got home which would have been about an hour - I was suspended further.

I'm not sure anything is worse than that place.

Yeah eventually the number of votes per update is going to push towards 3x instead of 2x and that's when it crashes.

But it's still impressive that it can still hang with 2x

I still think the rally has a ceiling. Eventually it will run out of people.

The Undertale playerbase just isn't that big.

We have yet to see it, though.

Hmmm just eyeballing things (not looking carefully) it doesn't seem like SMW's numbers really boosted at all when Undertale's did, suggesting a low backfire rate (low enough to be indistinguishable from noise)

But Link came close to defeating Draven (and only lost due to site downtime) when the votals weren't that much higher.

Can Undertale match that? The Undertale fandom might as well be 100 times smaller than the LoL fandom. Sure, we are comparing Tumblr to the subreddit, not the overall fandoms, but how big can the Tumblr fandom be?
Mario World is still pulling in a bit more votes on its own per single update than what both games combined for a non-rallied match would get at this time. There's some backfire, it's just not nearly enough

This is the correct inference. Most of the backfire rate suggested by people is way too optimistic. Even against Pokemon it's going to be very low. Counterrallies are the source of what most people are interpreting as 'backfire rate', or just inflated votals in general from this round.

Welcome to the League of Stickies.
Just makes you long for the mid-late 00s when any 1v1 poll would've laughed off a 10k surge of votes. Heck even in GOTD adding 15k votes to, say, Plants vs. Zombies, wouldn't have been enough to let it beat Mass Effect (in a 12 hour match, at that). Does give me a bit more respect for rallies like Missingno/Crono and L-Block though.
