Honestly I would rather see a legit contest instead of just Undertale being a repeat of Draven.

This isn't Draven. I've gone over this already.

Maybe in numbers, but the fanbase of Undertale is extremely pleasant. League fans, eh

What difference does that make? I can just ignore users with a poor attitude. That's not really that big a deal. The important issue to me is how they screw with contest results and in this regard they are the same.

Repeating my last question. What result was screwed with?

There might be a match or two you wanted to see, but that match not happening is not in and of itself sabotage.

In the NCAAs last year, a Kentucky/Duke final with Kentucky undefeated would have been the best possible final. Wisconsin beat Kentucky in the Final Four, so the final was Wisconsin/Duke. The game itself was absolutely amazing.

By GameFAQs logic, Wisconsin sabotaged the bracket. I will not agree with that logic.

The matches that were messed around with are the ones that have been mentioned repeatedly at this point. Pretty much RBY's entire run other than against Sonic 2 has been tossed out the window. Undertale is also going to screw with FF7 vs CT.

I don't really follow sports so I can't really give a good analogy. Like if Undertale turned out to be a sleeper megahit via GameFAQs power and crashed through all the RBY/Mario matches, I wouldn't really complain. Well RBY would be losing so I guess I would be complaining but it would be of a different kind and I might even lead to actually playing Undertale or something. Undertale may have wrecked the matches but it did so on it's own power. I think this is the situation similar to the sports thing you described.

I'm not really sure there is a good sports equivalent of what Undertale is doing. Maybe something like if aliens came down from Mars and granted one team superpowers and for some reason there aren't any rules against that (I don't know if this would violate any doping rules). The fodder team then uses their new superpowers to completely stomp every other team they face. Even then, I don't have a good analogy for the spill over effect. Maybe the aliens randomly give out short term superpowers as well to games played on the same day?

Edit: I've got to head off. I'm sure we can pick this back up some other time. Undertale still has 4 more rounds afterall.

Question: do we think the backfire rate will vary as a function of the current match percentages? E.g. maybe if SMW is down people that like both might be more likely to vote for SMW?

In the case of Tumblr, 12-hour matches are worse when it comes to rallying since it seems to take a lot longer to get the rally up to full steam. Both Undertale rallies from the first 2 rounds didn't hit full steam until after the 12 hour mark in both matches. For Reddit, 12-hour matches are better since it's much easier to get the rally on the subreddit's main page very quickly. The way Reddit works also makes it more difficult to keep a rally topic on the subreddit's main page for 24 hours, which is why 12-hour matches are better for Reddit rallies.

The only problem I have with the rallies is that there's money on the line. Thousands of dollars in prizes are coming down to who managed to randomly pick the obscure game to get the benefit of offsite rallies. Might as well chuck names in a hat and pick a winner for the next contest

To be honest I kind of had the thought that Tumblr voters weren't like Draven voters and that they were just voting for their favorite game rather than automatically voting for the thing being rallied so another game might have a shot.

That's not looking very likely though...

Next time I would pick a ralliable character/game to win the contest then rally for it in tumblr or reddit or whatever. Thousands of dollars secured.
Undertale's vote intake has fallen off pretty sharply, almost halved from when that 2nd wave of the rally was at its peak. Does Tumblr have a strong European presence? If not, and going by the other matches, SMW may soon be clear until morning.

Undertale has done much better in America than Canada or Europe in the first two rounds, so I'd wager that's where most of the rally is centralized.

You cannot convince me Mario 3 would have won that match, and I was the most vocal guy here saying it would win.

What is really being sabotaged here?

A fun Mario World vs. R/B/Y match and a fun Mario World/Pokemon vs. Mario 64 match.

Now we get auto-Undertale wins.

On the other hand, we see an indie game and the newest game in the bracket win a contest dominated by the same handful of old games that constantly dominate these contests.

People wanted to see Draven win. People wanted to see L-Block win. And now people want to see Undertale win.

Very few in this community want to see Draven or Undertale win. Few here give any sort of crap about them, most didn't even know of their existence. Don't compare them to L-Block, who bandwagoned on intra-GameFAQs popularity for the most part.

This site's tastes are being overridden. How can you or anyone seriously expect people not to be upset with that?

SBAllen was extremely fed up with the board during Draven's run. Think at one point during one of the multiple lengthy posts he made to try and get people to calm down he even said "I hope you guys are having fun, because I'm not"

He had every right to be angry at the users then. I was so disgusted with the way the users were treating SBAllen that even I couldn't stick around anymore. People insisting that there was cheating instead of rallying and that he was incompetent for not realizing it, and then presenting 'proof' that wasn't even proof at all. It was like, ugh.

I mean I guess I can understand the users being upset but that sort of lashing out was really sad. Dude was trying his best

There are now 5333 extra votes in this poll above the FFVII poll from yesterday. So, if that 70.45% SMW had at the freeze represents Gamefaqs, that would mean the backfire rate is currently around 28.3%. That backfire rate, with yesterday's natural votals, would require Undertale to bring in about 44000 outside votes to win. Last round, it did around 42000.

Probably, even the first 5 minutes were already being influenced by rallies, so the actual backfire rate is a bit lower.
