Common Stats Topic Lingo Defined*~ SFF (Same Fanbase Factor) - Same Fanbase Factor is the theory that, if two contestants share a common fanbase, the weaker of the two options will underperform in a direct matchup. For instance, Link was expected to defeat Ganon with 65% of the vote in 2004, based on their 2003 values. Instead, Link collected near 88% of the vote. This is the best example of SFF we've ever seen. However take some SFF labels with a grain of salt, as many people will slap it onto any match that doesn't make perfect sense. Extrapolated Standings - The mathematical "strength" of a contestant that's determined based on their performance relative to the rest of the field. This number is typically based on the contest entrant's loss, but adjustments are sometimes made. Seems like Undertale is about the same percentage it was when it trumped all it's other rivals earlier in the tourney Hell, I think Mass Effect 3 was beating it by a larger margin at around this point of time Feels like Undertale will take this one |

I am a Bill Simmons fan. The reverse jinx is an art form. But to be serious, Undertale has been the underdog in every match. I don't think people appreciate how hard a 9300 vote comeback in 7 hours is. 6800 vote deficit into a 9300 vote win is also just completely nuts and required lightning in a bottle. This is in no way like L-Block/Draven/etc. Those things got to where the match was over in 5 minutes. In this contest it has 30% early in every match. The
effect of the backfire rate on the size of the rally needed to win is
not linear. For instance, let's say the backfire rate is just 25%
instead of 20%: Now, based on those same 1:30 numbers, SMW would be winning with 75.04% on Gamefaqs and would project to a 23,597 vote win on Gamefaqs, which is a little less than before.......but to beat that with the higher backfire rate, Tumblr would need to bring in 47,193 votes, 6,000 higher than with the 20% backfire rate. At a 30% backfire rate, that increases to around 56,000. At a 35% backfire rate, that jumps to around 70,000. At a 40% backfire rate, it mushrooms to around 94,000. Okay, Mario World in trouble for now. Actually, let's do some math. We are about 2500 votes ahead of last night's votals (at 1:50). So let's assume the rally has added 2500 votes. I'm going to assume, based on early votes, that SMW gets about 72-28 on Undertale naturally (I'll fix that later). That means that SMW has taken about 845 of the rallied votes, meaning it's getting a solid blowback of 34%. Now, the rally started early. Undertale is probably, at best, 20% naturally on SMW. That means that SMW only has 245 of the rallied votes, or a blowback rate of under 10%. That feels way too low, though. --- Raytan7585 is better than me at redditFAQs |
