And before we get too deep into the ALL NEW GAMES ARE OVERRATED rabbit hole, remember that Final Fantasy VI got this same result against Paper Mario 2. Something is up here.

That puts Final Fantasy VI at slightly stronger than Majora's Mask, which puts it a little bit above FFX.

If you think Majora's Mask and Wind Waker could possibly share the same fanbase, then that puts more and more distance between FFVI and FFX.

FFVI got 62% on MMX (in a 4 way with Link's Awakening). FFX got 55.5%.

Quick Leon, assuming nothing fishy happened in any of those matches, compare FFVI vs. FFX through MMX, and through Paper Mario 2 GotD

The rally is gonna have to work its way through a ton of Dreamhack threads, I don't think it will be as strong as last time (and it's doing nearly nothing right now).
ok, I just purchased Chrono Trigger and will play it later this month. I feel left out not playing a game with this much hype/fanfare.

Don't mind me. I'm just here for the contest.
Upvotes are not really a good way to evaluate rally strength. There's 1720 users active atm (which is comparatively very big for a video game reddit rally potentially) and any of them who are looking at New threads are gonna see it. And of course people are gonna vote without bothering to upvote.

Of course, the effect will be magnified when the upvotes increase and if/when the rally makes it onto the front page.

Anyway I still can't get over this Chrono Trigger number. Lots here seem to be assuming FFX dropped. I dunno about that. I think Melee is getting slaughtered next round almost as bad as FFX is.

Man, I hope so bad that SMW pulls it off against Undertale. I don't want Undertale to ruin EVERYTHING.

No, but I'm not even talking about Undertale. I'm talking about the multiple matches/day issue. Its going to ruin absolutely everything because of that.

Really, the ideal format would be 4 matches/day first round, 2 second round, then 1 daily after long. Wish the contest had started earlier so that would have been possible.

Multiple matches is the best shakeup these contests have ever had though.

Let's be honest here. Board 8 is really good at these things. But picking which game will get rallied and how it affects three other matches is impossible. This has been a good thing.

Chrono Trigger beats 2004 FFVII, for one!

Also, using Game of the Decade stats this result is actually fairly consistent with what CT did the first two rounds.

You have people corrupting matches they literally didn't even come here to vote on.

This site's democratically chosen winner can lose because of people who don't even give a crap about that match.

Rally voters are like foreign citizens who vote in your elections then return to their country. But at least if they vote on the match they care on, they can be happy. Them deciding matches they didn't come here for is horrid.

Multiple matches a day is good and I support it for the first two rounds. But not past round 2, and definitely not past round 3.

Hey, if we really want to increase contest unpredictability, obviously the most important factor in any contest, let's add a new vote button! Instead of voting for their favorites, the new MYSTERY VOTE BUTTON (TM) allocates a vote to a random game in each of the matches. You can only use it once per match, supplanting your actual ability to vote - but by spending 100 karma, you can use the MYSTERY VOTE BUTTON (tm) an additional time that day!

When I saw this result, my first thought was "Red must be so happy" lol :)

You mentioned the possibility of CT making the Finals earlier this contest. I don't know how serious you were, but now that's looking pretty possible. (If Tumblr doesn't screw it up)

And while I still can't see it, if OoT's weakness is legit CT can win. Possibly even without a bandwagon!!

Really hoping CT destroys Melee next round (I was gonna say "smashes Melee" but...yeah).

CT's first two rounds may have totally predictive. Who'da thunk it!

This result is the first true stunner of the contest to me. I've been surprised, but until now not stunned. I mean I picked CT with 57% in the Oracle, but this, wow.

So far, it's injecting a shakeup in the location that needed it the least. RBY vs SMB3 getting changed to a 60-40 wasn't more interesting. CT vs FF7 looks like it would have been interesting, but Undertale is wrecking that match as well. As for matches the are more interesting due Undertale rally spillover, the count is currently still expected to be zero. It didn't make anything more interesting in Round 1 or 2. I doubt it helps Sonic or Skyrim/MP keep it close since it should favor the expected winners. I've already mentioned FF7 vs CT. I guess I can't say for certain until it happens but I expect it will take a close match and make it one sided similar to SMB3 vs RBY. One or the other winning cleanly would have been a much better result. CT winning clearly before FF7 getting bailed out by Undertale would be absolutely terrible.

I like multiple matches a day are nice since we get to have a 128 entry bracket and 24 hour matches. However, rally spillover has so far done nothing but harm the contest.

As for Undertale talks, if I learned anything from Draven, is that it seems no matter what opponent it is facing, it will still get the majority of the votes

Are we really going to be doing that "maybe Undertale can lose this time!" thing every round this contest? The ship has sailed trying to stop it and suggesting the SMW has a chance let alone being the heavy favourite to win is ridiculous. In any case, rally spillover is already a net negative since we lost RBY vs SMB3. So even if GameFAQs went down for the last 8 hours of the match and SMW wins, it's still in the negative. Although, thankfully that means the damage can't get worse.

Whether they support FF7 or CT doesn't really matter. It screws up the result either way. A clean match where CT wins or dies trying would be much better.

Congrats to raytan7585 for winning the CB9 Guru Contest!
For what it's worth I think RBY has a nonzero chance of stopping Undertale. I don't expect the backfire rate to be especially large, but it'll be bigger than anything it's faced thus far. And I expect the Pokemaniacs to pull out every stop to save the closest thing to a #2 consensus game B8 has.

...CT being #1, naturally.

e: By nonzero I mean 'less than 0.1%' so don't think I give it a snowball's chance or anything

I'm made comments in the past about how funny it would be if RBY made it to and beat Undertale by leeching off the Undertale rally, but there is no way I am getting anywhere near that train. Watching it crash while on it would just be too heartbreaking for me. Also, it would probably mean RBY got heavily rallied and that's something I'm against even if it is Pokemon acting in self defense.
